  • The Philidor defense is TRASH!
Jokes though, but any slip from black in the Philidor Defense will cost you the game, not to mention this is an actual joke at the GM level.
Here, I show you one opening trap that occurs after the 5...Nd7 blunder. Blunder that I found in chess legend Ruben Fine's book "The Middle Game in Chess".
I hope you enjoyed the video, definitely don't sub :)

This is dumb. Black moves his bishop and knight into the perfect positions to block his king's and queen's escape? I've never seen it right away at the opening. We could all think of such foolish scenarios that would enable an opponent to quickly checkmate you. Maybe you should consider removing this video so you don't look so silly.
Here's another but more realistic video about this, where Black becomes the attacker. And note that White doesn't move his queen pawn forward to facilitate a pawn exchange that then allows his knight to move to D4. ruclips.net/video/bZtFxf-oDR8/видео.html

For a beginner like me who loves the Italian game and all the variations of the opening, for most of the time I get the Petrov's Defense and sometimes The Philidor's Defense which is this, so I thank you for sharing us a neat little trick against this opening if Nd7.
Now I need is another video on how to crush someone if black decides to go Nc6!

I doubt that anyone will play this line in philidor or particulary this sequence of moves. Although trap is nice. Saying that whole opening is trash is a bit too much however.

white can just finquetto the light square bishop and castle queenside. Having great success with the philador queenside castling maybe because it throws opponents off.

Nd7 played only 1% of the time even by noobs. Useless :(

The best Philidor variation is via pirc. E4 d6 d4 Nf6 Nc3 E5 (not the nonsense nbd7 move.
This Philidor variation is not played much anymore!
