I loved making stop motion videos with the gameboy camera.
The last thing I had on my mind is how to get the best picture of a game boy 📷, but this video, I found it to be highly interesting.

That's great man, literally just bought a Gameboy Camera 2 days ago to complete my Gameboy Printer that I've had for years and years
I use an arduino nano.
Cut a link cable and solder 4 of the wires to the arduino nano. This way you can use the print function to send the hex code to the pc and decode that to an image.
you can put it on a snes with gameboy adapter card and use it on a tv, soo if you have a portable power and mini display and a snes console with you outside...... :)

Nice video. I did a music video a couple of years ago where I used a game boy camera to shoot video with it. It was a fun experiment since I had no knowledge on how I was suppose to do it.

I've watched a couple of My Life in Gaming videos about picture quality. But I'm dumb (or just because english isn't my native language) and I sometimes failed to grasp concepts and methods, if you start to do them for idiots like me, damn, that would be cool.

It's weird to think about, but it may be possible to actually capture color photos from the Gameboy Camera. You probably couldn't do it outside, but in a controlled studio setting, you could set up three filters over the lens, and then combine the photos in photoshop. I had the same problem taking pictures with the GBA SP. You can press select to invert the image upside down, if you didn't know that. It's still awkward to frame, but it works just fine.

The gb camera is awesome!
I wrote one of those programs to extract bmp files out of gb .sav's and I use the "Mega Memory Card" to extract the save files and the "Ems flash cart" to transfer it to an sd card.
You said those can be pricey but you're using a GameCube + Game boy player + Action replay. Maybe the real problem to my approach is to actually find the items for sale.
Anyways, my software generates indexed bmp files that allows you to change the palette without doing anything weird.

Actually, it works on Windows 98 and 98 SE as well! :) I have the MadCatz PC Camera Link Cable, though I have to admit that I haven't used it very often in recent years. XD
I had that cable!!! It never worked tho. It would think it was transferring but just give me an image full of question marks.
When you press select, you can flip the picture while you are taking it
you can also change the palette on the game boy color / game boy player using d pad and or B. that way you just choose the one that best suits you and that way you avoid editing

That's simple enough: get a Super NES and a Super Game Boy, plug the Game Boy Camera into the Super NES, and record footage of the Super NES's video output via some capture card. :D
It can be used like a very low-FPS webcam that way!

It's really Gun to go out and take Pictures with the Game Boy Camera, I do that a lot. But I dump my Pictures with an (inexpensive) Card Dumper end extract die Photos from the Savefile itself. Also, try to do some Color Photos with the Game Boy Camera. Its not easy, but the Outcome is great.
Can i ask for the dumper's name? I was thinking about making one with an arduino but If your dumper is not expensive i can buy one instead

There's a camera app i use called Retroboy, it has a game boy mode. It has other retro shooting modes as well (pxl-2000, amstrad cpc464, roy lichtenstein, etc.). I would recommend it. This is a much easier way than doing all this stuff, unless you really care about getting authentic gameboy camera photos. You can get it on the fdroid app for free.

I just bought a Japanese Gameboy Camera & it has the previous owner's pictures on it. I'd like to keep those somehow, but I don't have an elgato or the Action Replay. I have a Super Nt, & I was hoping it had some sort of screenshot function but it sadly does not...
Huh, so the GBI let's you take direct screenshots? I wonder if there's a way to do that with Gamecube games as well...
or if you had all the time in the world, you COULD PUT REALISTIC COLORS PIXEL BY PIXEL and boom an actually good gbc picture
If u have a flash cart, I heard you can put a gameboy camera ROM on it, and use a link cable to transfer pictures from a gameboy with the camera to the link cart. From there you can just rip the save file from the flash cart on ur computer and extract the pics from there.
I haven’t tried this yet, but I sure want to !

Theres no way that camera is 12-15mm wide. Possibly because you're using cropped sensor lenses, but this looks more equivalent to something around 20-24

I was looking for years for a good, affordable solution and finally found one in J.Rodrigo's Cart Flasher. It's all you need to rip the .sav file with the images and it's only 37 eur on Tindie (shipped directly from the guy who makes it). There's a few reviews of it on RUclips but in short it works great, and it's fast. Plus you can backup Game Boy save files with the same device if you're so inclined!

Seems like it'd be easier to just dump your Gameboy save to your PC and run the game in Visualboy, then take a screenshot from there.
I used to transfer Game Boy Camera pictures to my computer using a link cable hacked to hook into my parallel port. I used some Game Boy Printer emulator software to perform the capture. The last time I tried to look for it, the original website was long gone, but I managed to find the files on Archive.org and uploaded them here: mkgraham.dx.am/gbprint.html

If you used a Nintendo Gameboy Advance SP GBA Game Cartridge Changer by Gamester it adds a 3 cartridge slot on the top for the camera to slide in perfectly

Ya immediately reminded me of IronicSans and his color GBCamera photo. The pure black and white bitmaps would come in handy for making color photos.
When I bought a GB Camera, it had someone's nudes on it. The original Game Boy's screen was so bad I didn't even notice they were nudes until I popped the cartridge into a Game Boy Pocket

OH! now i feel dumb, i was using super gameboy2, framemeister and elgato capture to get photos when i could of just used my gamecube :V
You can also use green, blue and red filters to take pictures with color.
Let's see... 128x128 pixels at 2 bits per pixel gives 32768 bits, and dividing it by 8 to get bytes it's 4096 bytes, so 4kb
