I bought a 2024 Sonata SEL about a month ago & I love it! This is my 4th Sonata. My last 3 were very reliable, never broke & I imagine this one will be the same. The shifter is a little weird at first, but now I like it. I do have to be careful not to jump into the car too quickly because I have hit my knee on it a few times & I don't want to break it off. It is smooth, quiet & comfortable. It looks amazing & turns heads. The only complaint I have so far is all the little nooks & crannies in the grill, bumpers & wheels. They are a pain to wash & the car wash doesn't get them clean. It also drips water for days after washing it from the tail light bar, mirrors & doors. If you want it perfectly clean you have to keep a towel with you & keep drying it - I gave up. This car is one of the best cars I've ever owned & I've had a lot.

I drove the 2024 Elantra for a couple of weeks and can tell you why I might pick it over a base Sonata. It's the lightness, the agility, plus lower fuel consumption. Nothing in its class is easier to drive. It reminded me of that every time I drove it. The fact that it has a roomy back seat is icing on the cake.

I can't really contribute how the 24 Sonata drives, just yet. I just bought it 3 weeks ago. But I do love the front bumper redesign. I was looking at the 23 Sonata, but I disliked the honeycomb look. The front of this new Sonata borrows heavily from the late eighties sports car designs from Japan (e.g. the Supra) to my eyes but I do agree that the new design is a vast improvement over the previous model.
I LOVE the look of this. I've been driving a minivan for nearly 20 years now and want to switch to a sedan. But it's hard to find a sleek and chic-looking sedan that doesn't come with a luxury price tag. This might be the car for me.
4:49 the brake lights being used as turn signals is unacceptable and needs to be illegal already. How is it 2024 and car companies are still incapable of designing proper taillights with separate running, brake and amber turn signals? It's utterly baffling.
The hyundai canada website shows a black headliner for the base model but every video I have seen of the base has a tan/beige headliner. Anyone know why or asked hyundai? For me a tan headliner looks cheap and I would much prefer the black (as mentioned on the website).
Love your reviews. I think that sedans popularity would improve drastically if they made them with a hatchback (much more practical). The omission of a hybrid in Canada is a mistake.
2024 Hyundai Sonata preferred trend is an outstanding value compared to Honda and Toyota which the base models of the two starts around $38000 yikes! love the new styling inside and out reminds me of Audi. For my money i'll buy the Hyundai Sonata, save a few thousand and I wouldn't even get the AWD option, no need for me like they say.. Less is more. thank you four your videos keep up the good work.
I think the crossover/suv models and the increasing Elantra size has cannibalized much of Sonatas sales. It has me wondering if the plan is to merge/replace the Sonata with the Elantra to reduce the number of sedan models. I think this may be a good idea.
Gotta say it is nice, but having a black leather interior only (yeah it's got Ventilated seats here in Canada but still) kinda sucks... wonder if we will get the hybrid model though.
The ones that would saved the shrinking sedan market are AWD and hybrid. That's what Camry is going to be standard across the board. Thanks to world's most successful carmaker. They already have done it with Corolla and Prius. I only hope Honda, Subaru and Mazda will do the same. Given they have excellent compact and mid-size sedans. As for this refreshed Sonata, as good as the car is. I can't stand Hyundai and Kia's recent styling language.
Hyundai : « Hybrid didn’t sell well » ; if people think the previous model looked odd, the hybrid was worst with that chrome strip in the front bumper and the fuel efficient wheels. As a previous model owner (1.6T model), there are very few reasons to upgrade to this new model. I feel like the new design is as polarizing as the previous design, you either love it or you hate it (I like the fish design, not so much the current light bar everywhere trend). Having said all of this, if you are in the market for a good road and city sedan, the Sonata is an excellent, well equipped and dependable car.
The light bar thing was something I was concerned over when car shopping. I think the new kona looks awful for example. I think they did a really great job implementing it here.
Its a major improvement on Looks. It went from the worst looking sedan to the best. Not offering the hybrid sucks. The dilemma for me is, I do like the Elantra. I rented one from Hertz, I'm a big and tall guy over 6.4 and Elanta swallowed me up. While I like the looks of the Sonatas more, do I need the larger car?
I agree - Elantra N - any that were on the road appear to be gone now. You know how racecars they rebuild the engines often after every race right - so how can you use those cars and expect them to be financially wise if you are in that high productivity and income part of you life where the challenge is to reduce things that hit that cashflow and risk mitigation to building a retirement plan.
I love Sedans and would own one IF I could find one with good AWD, hybrid and don't have to fall down into it or climb out. Haven't tried the Crown yet, maybe next car.
Looks great but at this point I really think the sedan market is on borrowed time, at least here in North America. People are too in love with crossovers, trucks, and offroad SUVs.
After decades of driving mini vans and SUVs ( 5 boys) as the boys grew and left home, I went smaller, but now in my 60’s, I want a sedan and was disappointed not to have many options- but know I’m not the majority- 😂
Very disappointing and puzzling why the hybrid version is unavailable here in Canada, especially since Accord and Camry do. But what's particularly frustrating is there are desirable options only available on the hybrid Sonata that won't be available here. Front and rear parking sensors, in dash blind spot monitors and the 360 camera....all won't be available here. I'm planning on getting a new Sonata in a year or two and I hope by then Hyundai will have a change of heart.
there will always be a market for a sedan, just like there's a market for hatchbacks, minivans, and wagons. just because the industry only wants to make crossovers, it doesn't mean sedans don't sell. people just have gotten use to styling trends, so as long as they look good enough to drive everyday without feeling embarrassed, people will buy them. so the fact Hyundai wants to keep the Sonata around, i applaud them for it. that said, if Hyundai wants to sell more, they might wanna take a look at the styling. that front end could be a turn off for some people, the Elantra is another car that has a odd design. when it comes to styling, you gotta be careful not to overdo it with the styling, and grills are something people see from the front of the car, and if it looks too odd to people, than can affect a buying purchase.
Why no spare tire in Canada, Hyundai??? This is a bad trend that makes me look elsewhere. They don’t even have a Canadian part number for spare tires. You have the option to buy a spare tire kit from Modern Spare (from the US) but that’s about 600 USD with shipping. Thanks for the review!
Great review - thank you for making it. As always with Hyundai/Kia - this new design will last all of 15 minutes before they replace it yet again. It must be a nightmare for mechanics and body shops to keep up with their constant design changes.
What you talking about. The Sonata has had fishmouth design for years. The kia k5 is unchanged since 21 22 23 24...2025 is now restyled, your comment is incorrect and your obviously another HATER, making stuff up, that's simply not true.
FOR price better buy Elantra in Canada. For sedan just drop the Sonata. You have the Genesis G70, Acura TLX type S, Camry awd and hybrid, Accord. And don't worry you have the new Kia K4 !
They need to turn that 2.5L engine 90 degrees in the engine bay. Then they can let that motor crank max torque any time the driver wants, vs the torque limited transmissions in FWD cars.
We just passed our 2013 Kia Sportage to our daughter a few months ago, and the engine blew with the crankcase bearing issue that has plagued hundreds of thousands of Kias and Hyundais. Since the warranty was 10 years, they would do nothing for us. The engine had 127,000 kms. After 15 years of Kia ownership with two Sportages, we will never buy another again.
Wow. I’m sorry that happened to you. Mine just blew at 108000. Hyundai had an engine warranty extension to 120,000 and luckily they replaced it. I’m having trouble with the engine light coming on now. It definitely puts a bad taste in your mouth and makes you look at the brand in a negative light.
Definitely a more attractive car. Like you I found the previous generation hideous (carp for sure)! I have the 2022 Tucson PHEV like your mothers, is there any chance of a software update to enable wirless Android Auto/Carplay?
The stick on the column ? Boo! I like the buttons much better. Putting the drive park , neutral on the stick/column takes us clear back to the 60s! Hate that.
whats the point of having a hybrid when for example this 2024 Sonata is 7.6l/100km and the hybrid camry 7.4l/100km? So a more complex motor setup will lead to 100 extra in payment that people dont have to pay for. Sonata wins
I really dislike the fish look of the previous Sonata. This new one looks so awesome. No polarizing opnions on the appearance any more!!! I used to snub Korean cars and placed Japanese on pedestal but now my preference is reversed. Even after driving a BMW 300 series, I now drive a 2021 Elantra NLine which totally equates to fun driving expereience with good power performance but with much less price than the Bimmers.
I like the exterior… a lot. The interior does little-to-nothing for me, maybe its the colour, design or abundance of plastic… I’m not sure. I have seen articles/pictures discussing a ‘shooting-brake’ N-variant… Wow! That would be about the only version (manual?) that would get me into a Hyundai dealership. At this Sonata’s price point (for a midsized 4-door sedan)… I would go for an Accord or Camry… or even the Subaru Legacy. Thanks for the video.
Gigantic IPAD screens 🙄🙄🙄🙄 once again. Why are manufacturers obsessed with these distracting screens? What's wrong with separate analog gauges ? Even if they are digital. I cant imagine if one of these screens go downs, get cracked, scratched and you are out of warranty. Good luck.
150% agree. When the euro regs kick in and start dinging these all-screen cars for the distraction mobiles that they are, we'll hopefully see this trend stop.
Even my old Ford Edge had a large screen and ... they pushed the extended warranty because of it. Edit: Munroe Live states that the push buttons cost more money and Sandy loves the big screens for that reason.
@@bassandtrebleclef right there with you. I have an 8.8 inch screen and it’s more than enough. Last thing I wanna do is fiddle with touch screens doing everything for me. 2010 Santa Fe, mostly suspension parts during its life (world-class potholes where I live). One minor engine oil leak, zero electrical problems. A spendy rear AWD coupler at 13 years old. Not rusting any faster than previous vehicles. No hurry to replace it, will look at Japanese cars when it’s time, but when it’s time to write that big cheque the Korean cars suddenly look better!
The shifter on steering column is better. Not only because it saves space for other things. But on my Tucson, I’ve had my dog walk on the button while driving throwing it from d to n and a loss of power. Before you scold me, he was tied on a leash to the back seats but he ate through!
I still think the 2011 to 2014 Sonatas are the best looking and the 2.4 had up to 200 HP in the Sport . You just needed to change oil frequently and check its level . Something that is not normal for your average Hyundai owner .

@@stanleetfk3823 Toyota RAV4 hybrid is a 12 month wait. Toyota Corolla Cross hybrid is an 8 month weight. Honda CRV nybrid is readily available but the most expensive. Hyundai Tucson hybrid is a good 3rd choice.
@@stanleetfk3823 in communist countries with low income and low purchasing power markets never function efficiently
@@ScubaSteveCanada I hate Honda. They bank money now like never before. Now they wanna strip dealers in North America 40 percent off their profits to finance the electrification. Huge BS!!!!
Looks great and reasonably priced. I do prefer the 2.5 non-turbo engine for longevity. Already thinking to get this as a second car.
The front of this new Sonata borrows heavily from the late eighties sports car designs from Japan (e.g. the Supra) to my eyes but I do agree that the new design is a vast improvement over the previous model.
Wish someone could explain the purpose of the fabric pad to the left of the gauge cluster.
I read in another article that this is the space used for Korean market Sonatas that utilize a fingerprint reader.
It is a speaker
Does it come with a blind view monitor camera???
Hybrid only. Welcome to Canada.
I LOVE the look of this. I've been driving a minivan for nearly 20 years now and want to switch to a sedan. But it's hard to find a sleek and chic-looking sedan that doesn't come with a luxury price tag. This might be the car for me.
Wow, its an improvement in terms of styling but the unibrow front lightbar definitely reminds me of the 80s Mercury Sable 😅
Is worth more than upcoming 2025 Camry??
Oddly enough with them mentioning the legacy, there’s a rumor going around that the Legacy will be discontinued after the 2025 model year.
Very stylish as always.
It took me a minute to get used to the button parking on our BMW X4. I kind of prefer the solid sound of an actual parking brake.
On the hybrid version there is the option of camel coloured seating. Once again, denied for Canadians.
What kind of gas this car needs ? Regular, premium ?
Looks nice .👍🏻
Did they get rid of the cloth seats on the lower trims?
No, but the cloth actually looks nice.
Any chance to bring the new Santa Fe?
My car in Canada did not come with the heated steering. They said Hyundai is aware of it. But haven’t heard anything from Hyundai yet.
Rip. U got it too early
Base model has a sunroof?
No.
That would be a Deal Breaker for me No Spear No Deal
Looks great but at this point I really think the sedan market is on borrowed time, at least here in North America.
People are too in love with crossovers, trucks, and offroad SUVs.
After decades of driving mini vans and SUVs ( 5 boys) as the boys grew and left home, I went smaller, but now in my 60’s, I want a sedan and was disappointed not to have many options- but know I’m not the majority- 😂
This looks a very sleek and stylish car. Seems to be reasonably loaded with tech too 🎉
Very disappointing and puzzling why the hybrid version is unavailable here in Canada, especially since Accord and Camry do.
You two do a good job - but avoid the potholes....
Improved interior materials in the Sonata would drive me to get it over the elantra. Non cvt also.
Compared to the KIA K5, I think the Sonata comes off 2nd best. No rear seat HVAC or connectivity is a big miss as is no hybrid.
You should be aware that Kia has discontinued the K5 in Canada. No 2025 model here.
Better than former appearance, spacious & stylish, a good choice of family sedan ~
Looks are much improved but the more powerful engine with Turbo should have come with AWD not front only makes no sense.
Would it make sense if this turns out to be one of the last model years? There's always a reason.
@@ScubaSteveCanada they did same thing on 2 previous models as well
there will always be a market for a sedan, just like there's a market for
hatchbacks, minivans, and wagons. just because the industry only
wants to make crossovers, it doesn't mean sedans don't sell.
people just have gotten use to styling trends, so as long as they look
good enough to drive everyday without feeling embarrassed,
people will buy them. so the fact Hyundai wants to keep the Sonata
around, i applaud them for it. that said, if Hyundai wants to sell
more, they might wanna take a look at the styling.
that front end could be a turn off for some people, the Elantra
is another car that has a odd design. when it comes to styling,
you gotta be careful not to overdo it with the styling, and grills are
something people see from the front of the car, and if it looks too
odd to people, than can affect a buying purchase.
I want the fully loaded base model.😢
Great review - thank you for making it. As always with Hyundai/Kia - this new design will last all of 15 minutes before they replace it yet again. It must be a nightmare for mechanics and body shops to keep up with their constant design changes.
What you talking about. The Sonata has had fishmouth design for years. The kia k5 is unchanged since 21 22 23 24...2025 is now restyled, your comment is incorrect and your obviously another HATER, making stuff up, that's simply not true.
Man, what a car!
No more hybrid in Canada is so sad.
FOR price better buy Elantra in Canada.
For sedan just drop the Sonata. You have the Genesis G70, Acura TLX type S, Camry awd and hybrid, Accord. And don't worry you have the new Kia K4 !
Many cars today look better from the back than the front. Maybe it’s the front aero, tech and safety requirements. I’m driving in reverse from now on.
The Ioniq 6 looks like a wind tunnel design and I hate it. Just like the VW I7.
Im glad to hear them denigrate the 2023 Sonatas looks. It helps me get a better deal on the few remaining new '23 models
I'm seeing more of a Toyota Crown in this new design vs a Lucid Air
Definitely a more attractive car. Like you I found the previous generation hideous (carp for sure)! I have the 2022 Tucson PHEV like your mothers, is there any chance of a software update to enable wirless Android Auto/Carplay?
The stick on the column ? Boo! I like the buttons much better. Putting the drive park , neutral on the stick/column takes us clear back to the 60s! Hate that.
I agree. That transmission selector is a huge error. And it hits your knees when you shift position
It’s not bad. Feels like computer
Love the exterior design but missing hybrid is not a good news. Great show Andrea! ☕️☕️
Love mine! Much better than Accord!
whats the point of having a hybrid when for example this 2024 Sonata is 7.6l/100km and the hybrid camry 7.4l/100km? So a more complex motor setup will lead to 100 extra in payment that people dont have to pay for. Sonata wins
I really dislike the fish look of the previous Sonata. This new one looks so awesome. No polarizing opnions on the appearance any more!!! I used to snub Korean cars and placed Japanese on pedestal but now my preference is reversed. Even after driving a BMW 300 series, I now drive a 2021 Elantra NLine which totally equates to fun driving expereience with good power performance but with much less price than the Bimmers.
I can't park my Hyundai in the garage per NHTSA cause it might start on fire how about the new sonata
Shooting-brake… an estate car (a station wagon).
Those wheels looks like some old-school spinners
I prefer analog gauges and a few buttons elsewhere to do the extras when needed. I enjoy the driving experience and appreciate the input from my vehicle. Don’t need a gigantic screen or module doing it all for me. Just a personal preference. Call me old school.
@@ScubaSteveCanada I was still working on cars at a dealership in the city when these screens started showing up early on and I can’t tell you how many times techs would lose their 💩 trying to diagnose issues with them. Cars sitting in the service department for days on end. Like you mentioned as well warranty was pushed ten fold on them by the sales department and finance , and not everything was covered by it. Huge amounts of money leaving customers pockets for ridiculous repairs.
@@bassandtrebleclef More nanny state intrusion. If people are distracted looking at the screens, that's on them. We're going to regulate ourselves right out of existence.
So many beautiful cars...but they had to mess them up with some funny gear shifters (dials, buttons, windshield wipers and what ever it is GMC has or the prius, 😪)......
Grille looks quite fragile!
Sorry, I like the old style. All the manufacturers are doing now is trying to make their cars look like they are electric. Boring.
FYI.. I got an Elantra N line. Very sporty and is almost as big as the Sonata ( my previous car)
The front of the new Sonata looks similar to the Toyota Crown Sedan
The appeal for this car will be dropping the catfish face. The Sonata looks so much better in every way.
I think Hyundai makes good looking vehicles, unfortunately they are not long lasting, but they are good for about 4-5 years. your thoughts.
Still running my 2013 Elantra….10 years with more life in her.
My 2015 Sonata has been flawless. Only ever had oil changes and regular maintenance done
Had 2 and they both went over 175k with little to no problems before I sold them.
Robocop Front end vs Cat fish front end , i will go for robocop.😅😅
Agree! Robocop!
The shifter on steering column is better. Not only because it saves space for other things. But on my Tucson, I’ve had my dog walk on the button while driving throwing it from d to n and a loss of power. Before you scold me, he was tied on a leash to the back seats but he ate through!
I always use a crate when transporting pets, to avoid mishaps.
Super sharpWedge styling is an 1980s nightmare, can no one at hundae think modern
Hyundai....
I still think the 2011 to 2014 Sonatas are the best looking and the 2.4 had up to 200 HP in the Sport . You just needed to change oil frequently and check its level . Something that is not normal for your average Hyundai owner .
