I think the first expansion of the year should be weaker than the ones to come after it, otherwise you need to power creep out of your mind the following expansions in order to see play. The first expansion can be weaker because the card pool is smaller and the options are much more limited.
they do need to avoid making another barrens tho tbf
@@squid4462 In the Barrens expansion the Core set was introduced into the game. Even though was not part of the expansion we did get a positive. So i wouldnt really mind another barrens.
I think they shouldn't try to make it weaker necessarily, but they could have weaker synergies that you complement with the other expansions. This way they are still good to play and get to see play later with new synergies that the next expansions bring to the table. I would say making cards more direct and simple at first and starting to "complicate" the mechanics later would be a good direction. Then you can limit the starting strenght and you starting making people interested in the new expansions by thinking "this will work so well with that last archetype" instead of "this is so much stronger than that last archetype"

Man I feel like Festival of Legends is really underrated. Maybe it’s bc I’m a musician but the flavor was absolutely spot on
The flavor was really good, but the impact of the cards and decks were kinda mehh
To be fair the flavor was one of my favorite things in this set and it’s the best part but the cards were mostly awful and the decks that succeeded were built off of last years cards plus one or two new cards
It's happened more than once. But the themes of HS expansions have coincidentally been when I'm doing things related to them. Festival was the week I went to a music festival. And natria was when I was going to a horror convention. Lol
Festival of legends was fun, especially the mini set with dual classes returning. However, Titans was the opposite. The base set was amazing and the mini set was just ok except for yogg titan. Showdown in the badlands hasnt done its mini set yet, but the cards in the base set are ok but not great
Maybe it was but I sure thought it was dope af. The theme alone was one of the coolest ever. It actually got me to seriously come back to HS for the first time in years.
Excavating is indeed the best mechanic of the year. I really dig it.

You're coping if you think the p2w "debate" would ever end. Blizzard could literally make every single card free forever and the p2w whiners will still somehow find a way to say the game is p2w.
I opened 30 catch up packs and can only play a loaner deck that gave me most of enrage warrior cards or some meme aggro priest.

Another thing about the rogue titan that i learned the hard way. Is how blizzard coded him in. He is considered a titan and yet the challenges check if the keyword has been played and the game doesnt count voltron prime as a titan, because they added that type of flavor into it. So voltron lore wise is a fake titan , in heartstone he is not considered a titan for the “play titan cards” challenge
Is this still true? Because i'm aware of this bug but i thought they fixed it. Also i don't own Voltron anymore (shitty titan tbh) so i don't know.
@@badcatgames783 well. i cant say if its fixed or not. havent played mech rogue for a long ass while plus the titans challenges have been vaulted for the badlands ones. im still in awe how blizzard is doing sun setting harder then bungie by vaulting challenges like every3-5 months bc of a expansion

From a flavor standpoint they shoudl started with badlands (quickdraw) and endet on Festival for (Finale)
March of the lich king was my comeback expansion and tbh going from it to festival of legends was aweasome! Finale is a good mechanic and it just looks good
Also blind sharpshooter would be so much more fair if it was a legendary. 1 copy would make that deck so much more fair because they either kill you in one go, or you lose. Being able to not only get the card 1/15 instead of 1/30, but also playing a follow up turn is extra crazy
Not to mention that since it can draw the second copy by itself getting a follow up turn is not rare at all
I think realising Festival of Legends first was a good idea bc If Titan was first im shure much less cards from Festival of Legends would see Play BC Titans are slightly stronger
i disagree with most of what Rarran said this time. Imho Festival of Legends was a top 5 expansion for me and I have been playing since beta, with a huge break between Witchwood and Voyage in the Sunken City. Also, I kinda disliked tistans, they are too op and too influential for my taste. The mage and warrior titans feel good to be because those are not op. Moreover, Badlands was the third best expansion for me and it would probably be first if not for some outliers, such as naga dh or the whole paladin class. Really good year for HS imo, even though I disliked Titans quiet a bit.
Edit: I went too far to say Badlands could be the best expansion ever. I forgot how much fun I had playing during the Old Gods. That expansion is unbeatable. But, without Thaddius and the titans being in the game, Badlands would be a solid number 2 for me, even better than Un'Goro or Blackrock Mountain.
My theory is that march of the lich king and festival of legends were swapped just before release because if you think about what the expansions did, lich king introduced a new class something that would make more sense at the beginning of the year also if you look at the card descriptions in the lich king you see that they’ve been rushed notably the priest and deamon hunter legendarys
fizzle is possibly my new all time favorite card. ETC is also up there but goddamn the amount of times a snapshot top deck has saved me 😂

These are one of the best times in HS. I'm having a lot of fun. Also I like to play many formats like BG, Wild, Standard, Twist. Even watching duels and arena are enjoyable (big ups to Roffle)
The crazy idea's of your videos really gave me quality entertainment.

"Sif takes time" meanwhile me getting destroyed by it from 30 to 0 in 7-th turn 5 times in a row.
Speaking from looking purely at the meta balance I thin FoL had some of the most balanced and diverse metas of the year. Both Titans and Badlands have had a lot of metas were one or two decks are much better than the rest. Furthermore, there was points in FoL were every class legitimately had a viable deck and some classes had multiple. Again not something you can say for Titans or Badlands. Add that to the sheer flavor of FoL and it is by far my favorite expansion of this year.
Year of the Hydra was when I started paying attention to Hearthstone again. It's definietely been a wild ride, but it's definietely helped inspire me to continue designing my own game
When people talk about blindeye sharpshooter they always talk about dying at 30 health on turn 6. No one mentions the fact that the demon hunter also develops a full board and draws 12 cards.
drawing is what allows them to kill you and the full board doesn't matter if the sharpshooter kills you. demon hunter, rogue, thaddius and every other mana cheating in the history of this game make the most miserable games of hearthstone
The full board doesn't matter. They are a Bunch of low health Minions that gets wiped out by a single board clear
for me, it has been one of the best years just because im enjoying showdown in the badlands so much
came back to hearthstone absolutely accidentally after the release of festival of legends and omg a love this game now, and i think its only going to be better
The only thing that disappointed me this year was the lack of golden animations for the titans (their abilities) and most of the generated tokens (for example forged cards) during the TITANS expansion. It didn't influence how good the cards were but it took away satisfaction from having their golden version.
As a mech fan i was super excited about magnetize coming back and ive made very successful decks :)
I agree with Rarran that instead of bringing back magnetic in Titans, since the expansions core mechanic was 2 mana do nothing to gain something later they should have brought back Inspire instead.
Festival of Legends really should not have been the first set of the year, I absolutely agree with that sentiment. Yeah, it was cool, but it didn't have the same punch as the latter two sets. But a key point to mention with Titans was that Magnetic was pretty cracked for Mech Paladin in wild until Mechwarper got banned, which killed pretty much all of the explosive potential the deck had. That mechanic had no reason to be in TITANs, as it had a number of consequences for the Wild format as a whole. Caverns of Time did push that deck out anyway as Aggro Rogue, Secret Mage and Aggro Priest supplanted that deck entirely, to say nothing of Disco Lock coming in to cause problems.
Titans single handedly saved Warrior as a class in my eyes. It gave Control such a good wincon that it can actually allow for you to use your control elements as part of your wincon, and fight back against Aggro, or at least stand a chance against it. As a Wild Player, it just gave the class everything it needed to be playable, which in a format where you can die as early as turn 3, is absolutely necessary.
As for Badlands, I can positively say it did some good for the format. Yes some combos have appeared that have caused problems, but it did allow for Reno decks to be more playable. It also gave some utterly garbage archetypes a few playable wincons. Elemental Shaman? Yea, you can do an absurd amount of damage from hand with a lot of setup, and essentially win from hand. Naga Demon Hunter? The deck hardly pays mana anyway, and you just wipe the opponent out if you got all the setup needed for it. Ogre Rogue? Need I say more?
Renathal needs to be core, I wouldn't even mind it if they removed the health gain from it. Playing with 40 cards is way more fun.

Not sure how other people feel but I think Titans was a home run. The cards were powerful without feeling broken…. for the most part anyways.
The difference between Sif and Sharpshooter is that you have to play well to win with Naga DH and also nobody plays it numerically and also Naga DH loses so hard to Aggro
prison of yogg saron is hilarious, i once was 1 health with an empty board against a dead knight that had marrowgar with like 30+ stat of minions, drop this prison and it gave me light bomb (priest spell wipe), the shaman spell that summoned 4 minions that cost 5, 6, 7, 8, and finally, as an icing on top, that paladin heals 5 on my hero.
Surprise, that Deathknight also dropped his prison after seeing my prison, and he gets 4 paladins spells that buff silver hand recruits (yes that rng is atrocious). after that, he just concedes because that 4 minions from shaman spells is enough to kill him
Another festival thing would be Darkmoon Fair right? It was just a fair.
One of the best years for HS, mainly because of titans and excavate.
Badlands is a top 3 aot expansion for me. The first week aside, we now have soo many viable decks and playstyles. Really great
I got back into the game during sunken city but i think im on my way out again. Twist flopping as hard as it did and blizzard's inability to handle botting has basically made me quit. I feel like the game needs a full revamp at this point the reign in power creep and bloat within the game.

As a player who slowly lost interest into Hearthstone during the years 2021-2022, no expansion has ever given me such hype to play the game again as Showdown in the Badlands. I don’t know what it is, maybe I’m just a huge fan of highlander (even though i love and hate Reno with a burning passion), but this expansion just felt like winning a game of hearthstone was synonym of having fun, instead of just playing cards in a tier 1 meta deck.
Except for the Azerite Snake, still don’t know how this thing got approved as a healthy card for the game, but hey, it got nerfed

IMO nature shaman is a really well designed combo decks and hope they make more combo decks like it

God fuck magnetic, I hate how it forces you to completely keep mechs off the board or you just kinda lose on the spot, dogshit mechanic.
i think they should have further weakened the Aggro Paladin and i think they should offer something better to Reno Paladin
It just feels so difficult to get back into the game, even making a good deck and trying to play (as someone who played from launch to ~Witchwood) I feel totally lost and every deck seems to have OTK from hand, board clears, control cards, etc there's no real archetypes anymore.
If returning players had to deal with the disgusting power level of titans they would have quit 100%

I like how ETC is just MTG card Wish cycle of cards and Heartsone players think that peak card design. ETC is what other card games call sideboard.
I hope there is some loose structure on the next sets. I'm really, really, really tired of Reno and the Gang doing things, but going from a music festival to primordial gods just doesn't make sense.
The rogue excavate is SOOOO much better now after the buff

i complain all the time but i agree, after taking a couple years off i really enjoyed Titans and Badlands
here is maybe a hot take BUT i think sif is as bad as sharpshooter simply because u cant stop it (most of the time). If u play aganst sif it feels like u are on the clock and u will die at some point with sux to play aganst. the biggest problem with sif is that he deals more then 20 dmg in a combo. i belive combo decks should never be able to otk ppl from full hp and sif can ez kill u from full hp +armor in full combo.
And Sharpshooter fits the flavor of the card a lot more just give it 5 hp back and remove the draw and the card is fixed. for Sif just delet her u cant fix her
If a combo takes you playing like 11 turns of garbage cards into an otk it should 100% kill you from full
Personally I thought festivals was the least impactful and least entertaining in terms of flavor, titans was a step in the right direction with budget planeswalkers but showdown was easily the best imo
I disagree with Rarran, I think Festival of Legends' theme was probably the worst I've seen in HS. It is just so far out of left field and unlike the aesthetic of everything else in the game. Mixing war/battle with rock bands and music theme just didn't work for me. Its close betwen FoL and One Night in Karrazan for worst theme, but I think FoL did it given its placement in the year. That being said, I really like the design of the cards like ETC.
Why would he think that opinion of somebody how rates expansions by how strong the cards are (a.k.a. by powercreeping) matters?
Badlands is the best imo. Didnt play yet when reno decks were a thing, but reno druid is one of the most fun decks i've played and not playing duplicates is as unique as playing renathal

Personally, I think the expansions this year have been dope. Are there a few cards I could do without? Sure, that happens every year. But the cards were just *cool*.

TFT Rumble Remix is how to do a music set. Festival of Legends felt meh in terms of flavor and especially in terms of a music theme. It just didn't work.
Personally I cannot wait until Renethal rotates out of the game. I liked it on release since it allowed midrange to survive longer and possibly stabilize against aggro, but there were fewer control tools last year. This year, a lobotomized monkey can build and play a control deck because you can throw every possible tool into the deck. I think many control players would still play Renethal if it gave no extra life because they have more removal than other decks have weapons.

They need to keep this level of expansions every year, i think it`s easy to create a good flavored cards without making a combo meta like in stormwind times. Some decks are just annoying and can create crazy boards from nothing, tempo is what i miss hearthstone very much

E.T.C. is most irritating card in the game right now. There's should be a drawback for playing a tech card in the form of it beings completely useless against anything it's not useful. When I see E.T.C. I don't guess what they have there, I know that it's something that hardcouters me specifically and it makes me mad.

Not really, it was more of a neutral keyword that priest also used frequently but not class specific (I.e. starfish or that 4/3 neutral that silenced)
Rarran, with your passion for this game, great analisys and honesty I wouldn’t be surprised if Blizzard might want to hire you at one point. Remember, you look fantastic.
i dont think forge is a great keyword, the only strong forge card is embrace of nature. all the other classes just run a weak neutral forge card to abuse ignis...
i have to add priest, hunter and warrior, those have playable forge cards. the forge cards of the other 7 classes still suck tho
I really didn't like Festival of Legends. I like the more serious wow expansions, and the card art was waay too goofy. Maybe it could've been a nice miniset idea, but the theme made me want to quit
I had a thought last night while I was stoned out of my mind. I wonder if plagues were initially supposed to fill the hand. forcing the opponent to pay mana for drawing more cards sounds absolutely atrocious to play against, but I can imagine it would've made helya/plagues feel a lot better to play WITH.
sunken city was the one short time in years where ranked was fun again for a minute. game is hot garbage again since the release of castle nathria

Lich king ruined the game. All I face now are DK bots. I can send screenshots to prove it. Over 50% of my games this month are DK bots and it's been like that for a while. They're easy wins but man its so boring. Also fuck reverberations lol that card is so annoying
tbh, this year of hs was the least i played since i started in 2015, worst time in hs history, still cant understand how people even like it, maybe they just used to bs and now actually enjoy stupid decks and boring matches, but its okay, for each theyre own

i honestly think finale is one of the best ideas for a keyword and i PRAY they make it evergreen. it and quickdraw are just perfect for a digital card game, especially quickdraw
