I understand the idea you’re presenting. My reason for playing games on easier modes is that I purchased a game to play (have fun) which for me often involves completing the storyline. I don’t need the game to be overly difficult to reach the final cutscene.
AMEN. I play all games but strategy on easy, and i have fun. I f'ing hate die and retry mechanics, my life sucks enough as is, I don't have to make it even more miserable !
I also personally hate grindy games. The kind that make you fight wave after wave of enemies just to level up high enough to actually progress the story. Nobody's got time for that
@@LetsTalkTabletop same, I stopped all the toxic live service games, even some I enjoyed for a relatively long time. The grind and FOMO were just messing with my brain, dopamine and addiction proclivity. And preventing me from playing so many different narrative games.
Definitely falls under that category of "People will optimize the fun out of your game." There's no shame in dropping the difficulty down so you can enjoy the game, there will always be a sweet-spot for each person.
Exactly! And as I said, if you are playing with suboptimal builds, the game is going to be harder in general, so the easier difficulty doesn't matter as much. It's still a challenge, but this time I get to build wacky War bands however I like and I'm not on the hook for the most competitive.
This guy is not only wrong, but he also doesn't understand video games. Freedom doesn't matter when it comes to having fun in a video game. Freedom can give you more gameplay variability, but if you don't have the necessary difficulty, you'll never feel pressured to try different ways to complete your objective, and therefore, you'll always end up doing everything in the easiest way possible. I'll give you an example of a person who dedicated their time to playing on hard, mastered the game, and with that, all the gameplay variability that the game offered. ruclips.net/video/vKyT19o-Nl8/видео.htmlsi=I6Z_RSOJD4_LLL0T Message to who owns the channel: Just to clarify, my comment is not intended to offend, ridicule, or have any malicious intent. Hard disagree. You should play on hard so you beating the game actually means something. If the game gets easy on hard mode because you just use a specific tactic over and over again then the game is just not well designed.
I totally get what you are saying, that is a common stance. But as I said in the video, I find that you tend to only find one good tactic or maybe two when you are playing at top levels, whereas if you are playing on a weaker difficulty, you have more flexibility and what you can bring and it's still a challenge. Obviously you don't get the bragging rights of saying that you beat something on hard, but you don't have to just take the best stuff. I also agree with you about the game being badly designed if it's that way, although it's so very common among games that you could almost classify it as unavoidable. Because every system has certain elements that are just better than others, even if only slightly. So then that becomes the optimal build.
How does beating the game EVER mean something? It’s a video game. It’s the pinnacle of participation trophy mindset. It’s literally built to be beaten. Yes you can increase the challenge so you’re going to take a little bit longer developing the twitch skills or watching RUclips videos on how to beat it than on easier mode. But then, at the end of it, what exactly have you accomplished? There’s this weird notion that seems to have come around with the rise of Twitch streaming that everything now has to be done professionally. Everyone has to approach everything like they’re competing for the Olympics, cause if you don’t, you’re a filthy worthless casual. It’s like everyone suddenly started believing they’re in a Dodge Ram commercial. No, beating a video game doesn’t ‘mean; anything, other than that you prioritized the time to do it over something else in your life. The only thing that means anything was whether or not you enjoyed your time playing it. That’s its sole purpose. If you enjoyed playing it through on hard mode, GREAT! But you’re no better or worse than the dude who enjoyed playing it through on easy mode. There is no ‘meaning’ to it.

@@grisch4329 Same can be said about any game, video game or not... If there is no meaning, why even discuss it?
Plenty of reasons to discuss it. It’s a pastime. A hobby. Something we do for fun. People discuss football even when they don’t play it. There’s nothing wrong with that. But attaching some sort of personal value to playing a video game on hard just feels like we’ve totally lost the plot.

I agree with you on that as well. I play them to have stress-free fun.

I guess playing on easy would also help clear a backlog too huh? (From a guy who has one)
That too! And also, playing games just to relax.

@@grisch4329 Overcoming challenge and bettering yourself in the process (cognitively) is what gives the time spent playing games meaning for many.
