- Pujya Shri MathiOli Saraswathy, affectionately addressed as AKKA, ATHAI, AMMA was born on October 9th,1940 to pious parents Sri Ramachandran and Smt.Jayalakshmi. As the baby was born on Saraswathy pooja day, Pujya Shri Akka was named Saraswathy.
As a young child Pujya Shri Akka went into a trance very often, unaware of HER surroundings. SHE would sit very quietly and also faint often at such times. The worried parents, after consulting many doctors and various medicines, decided to take Pujya Shri Akka to Kanchi Paramacharya, after Sundar Battar suggested that Shakthi was residing inside Pujya Shri Akka. The Paramacharya confirmed this fact and informed the parents that Pujya Shri Akka was none other than Thiruvanaikaval Sri Akhilandeswari incarnation.
The great artist Shilpi drew pictures of Devis, Deities and temples. He would take permission from the Paramacharya before drawing the main deity of any temple. At one time, the Paramacharya instructed him to continue this practice with Ambal (Pujya Shri AKKA) who lived in Triplicane in Chennai thus introducing Sri Shilpi to Pujya Shri Akka. He became an ardent devotee of Pujya Shri Akka and continued this practice till his end.
Crowds thronged Pujya Shri Akka's house to get HER darshan and to seek advice and to get solutions to their problems. In the midst compassionate listening and helping HER devotees unburden their sorrows and alleviate them, Pujya Shri Akka pursued HER academic and artistic interests.
Right from HER childhood Pujya Shri Akka was a member of children's clubs. SHE participated in these clubs as a writer, poet and actor. Pujya Shri Akka's journey of a writer with the pen name "MathiOli" began that early.
Pujya Shri Akka's love for children and interest in their welfare came to the fore in the founding of Nandalala Siruvar Sangam in 1983.This club took part in many activities of All India Radio. Later this club became the stepping stone for "Nandalala Seva Samithi Trust" to create opportunities to give back to the society in some form or the other---be it religious, educational, medical or lending a helping hand in times of distress.
The family of Sri Ramaswamy and Smt. Meenakshi, (fondly known as Meena Patti), were family friends of Pujya Shri Akka and her family from their stay in Pune, India, early in Pujya Shri Akka's life, they willingly donated their only property in Ranga Road, Mylapore, Chennai for construction of "Nandalala Cultural Centre".
Nandalala Cultural Centre has been constructed to provide multiple experiences in religious, cultural and artistic practices. It could be called as another "Dwaraka", "Mathura" and "Gokulam".
Pujya Shri Akka takes the form of a mother, sister, aunt, friend and guide and is always with us, holding our hands and leading us and showing us the right path.
