    What makes this video even more interesting for me, is that I have been on that exact train. Even found myself waiting on the plattform...
    Therefore I can add soem information: This was the RJ75 from Praha to Graz on the 8th October 2022 departure 12:58 from Wien HBF. It was also a ČD Railjet pulled by a Siemens ČD 1216.
    Thx for the upload 😁

    Incredible views from this railway, interesting that they chose this route to Graz instead of a easier one on the route of the A2 motorway, east of the mountains. An engineering marvel, drove a few times over Semmering Pass and saw some sections of the railway, was amazed how capable the engineers were mid 19th century. Thanks for the video, greetings from a traveller from Germany!

      For a railway the route through the hilly terrain in eastern Styria isn't easier at all. But the main reason was that there is nothing there that would have required a mainline rail connection. But was already a lot of industry around the Mur and Mürz valleys in the 1850s - so this was the obvious choice.

    Wonderful video of one of Europe's great rail trips. I have watched it more than once as it brings back memories of 1971 when I took the train from Vienna to Venice (and back). It was beautiful then and remains that way. I feel sorry for many tourists once the Semmering Base Tunnel is open as many will simply take the fast trains and miss the spectacular scenery. May ÖBB could put something on its website for trains traveling this route when searching in a language other than German, informating the user of the Semmering alternative.

    Awesome video, although I miss the information on the left side of the screen that are included in many of your other videos. It's fun and interesting to see what the different ALS readings are as well as the moving location on the track, the speed travelling and the distance travelled during the trip. It's probably a lot of work to add that information in, but it sure adds a lot to the videos that other Cab Ride/Führerstandsmitfahrt vloggers don't include. Vielen Dank für ein wunderbares Video.

L'unico tunnel indicato, il Semmerimg, è l' Alte Semmeringtunnel di 1436 m. mentre la lunghezza indicata, 1512 m. è quella del Neue Semmeringtunnel. • @heinerle456

      @Javier Guidou Nicaud - The double track route is equipped for bi-directional line operation. In August 2012, the route between Vienna and Payerbach-Reichenau 57:13 was converted to right-hand-traffic operation. In December 2019, the line between Payerbach-Reichenau 57:13 and Bruck an der Mur 1:58:56 has been successfully converted to right-hand running. Since then the left-hand running is operated south of Bruck an der Mur only. ÖBB intends to convert the line between Bruck an der Mur 1:58:56 and Graz 2:35:21 by the time the Koralm Railway opens in full.
      BTW, the Koralm Railway (Koralmbahn) is an Austrian 127 km-long double-track, electrified, high-speed railway currently under construction. As part of the Trans-European Transport Network it will connect the cities of Graz and Klagenfurt. The entire railway line is expected to be operational by the end of 2025.

      Die Autobahn führt außerdem quer durch's Hügelland, das hätte deutlich mehr Brücken und Tunnel erfordert und die Strecke länger und deutlich teurer gemacht (siehe Thermenbahn, die ja mehr oder weniger diese Route nimmt).

    On various computers the video seems to have "crushed blacks" as the television term goes . In other words the blacks in the video are very black and the side views of the rail travel are missing detail that a lesser darkening would provide. Maybe a "white balance" before videoing would help.However these videos are a great watch, thank you for your efforts.

    Hallo, ich habe eine Frage die Sie mir wahrscheinlich beantworten können... Dieses Geräusch welches die Taurus immer wieder im stehn macht welches wie ein Handtrockner/Föhn klingt..... was ist das bzw. was macht die Lok da? bei 2:01:13 hört man wie es wieder ausgeht. Das macht sie auch wenn sie stundenland am Abstellgleis steht immer wieder...

    • @montgomeryscott1656
      @montgomeryscott1656 Год назад +2

      Das Anfahrgeräusch entsteht in den Drehstrommotoren durch die Ansteuerung der Stromrichter. Das Geräusch ist dabei die doppelte Taktfrequenz der Pulswechselrichter, welche stufenweise angehoben wird. Die Frequenz ändert sich dabei in Ganz- und Halbtonschritten über zwei Oktaven von d bis d″ im Tonvorrat der Stammtöne. Es handelt sich dabei um eine dorische Tonleiter auf dem Grundton D.

      Das ist der Luft Kompressor, der die benötigte Druckluft für das Brems System und andere Bauteile in der Lok erzeugt und nachspeist. It is the air compressor, that provides the air for the brake system of a train ...

      Das "Föhn"-Geräusch ist genau das wonach es klingt: die Lüfter für Fahrmotoren und Leistungselektronik (hauptsächlich Fahrstrom-Umrichter, die haben einen eigenen Lüfter).
      The "hair dryer" noise is exactly what it sounds like: it's the cooling fans for the motors and power electronics (mainly the traction inverters, which have their own cooling fans).

    Any reason for the switch from right hand to left hand running midway in the journey?

    • @droge192
      @droge192 Год назад

      It is odd to see this on the Semmeringbahn section. I'm not 100% sure but an Austrian Lokfuhrer (train driver) did tell me to think of it that the left side in the main, single track, and the right side is a collection of (almost continuous, but with some junctions) passing loops. So, if you drive in the opposite direction over the Semmering section, you drive on the same track, but are then on the right hand side.

    • @stephanweinberger
      @stephanweinberger 10 месяцев назад

      Historically Austria used to have a mix of left-hand and right-hand driving (not only on railways but also on roads).
      The first lines in eastern and southern Austria were built for left-hand driving (like in Britain). The railway lines (and roads) in the western part of the country were more influenced by German standards (i.e. right-hand). After the annexation Germany wanted to change all lines in former Austria to right-hand driving; the plan was started beginning from the west, but wasn't finished due to a well-known armed conflict breaking out. After the war the situation stayed basically unchanged, with about half of the country still driving on the left.
      Today it basically makes no difference, as all multi-track lines are equipped with signals in both directions - i.e. functionally all rail lines in Austria are single-track lines, some of which just happen to run in parallel. And dispatchers also make heavy/creative use of this fact to increase capacity (e.g. you often see fast trains overtaking slower ones "on the fly", using both tracks in the same direction).
      The main direction of driving is merely a convention nowadays, and it's slowly changed to prefer right-hand operation. In fact the line south of Bruck/Mur is the last remainder of left-hand operation (and this will also be changed to right-hand once the new Koralmbahn line opens in December 2025).
