The Riddick movies are some of the finest well-made fantasy future fiction movies ever made. They work on every level. The script, the direction, the characters, the sets, the effects they blow the doors off we need more Riddick movies please please please instead of incomprehensible junk like the alien franchise sequels none of them make any sense the engineers blah blah blah who cares. I especially loved the cinematic action on Crematoria, the mud demons, the necromongers, just insane just brilliantly creative.
The aesthetic was very unique. It was interesting to me how they took Pitch Black, which was fairly grounded, and expanded upon it with seemingly supernatural elements. This series was more than just a Vin Diesel vehicle. It had a certain something special to it. The stuff cult classics are made of.

Here is the explanation of the final part: For the spectator who is there, the scene happens very quickly, only through the camera we see it slowly, in reality both of them attack Lord Marshall at the same time, both Bacchus and Ridick, which is why first Lord Marshall decided to go for the spear to defend himself from Bacchus by reflex, but Ridick had already guessed that, two moments in time at the same time, only one option, there was no escape for him.
He(Lord Marsh) made a deliberate choice to die at the hands of Riddick. It was far more honourable for him to meet his end this way than to fall victim to a treacherous second-in-command. Let’s be clear: Lord Marsh was fully aware of the prophecy. In that pivotal moment before his death, he seized his destiny. This is precisely what made this final scene truly epic.
Riddick was outclassed in this scene by the Lord Marshall in every way. I think this is the only time this happens in the series that Riddick is ever out matched.
Not really true. He teleported to get a weapon to defend himself. If he went back, he was gonna die by his own guy. His only option was to go to Riddick who knew he was coming and stabbed him at his exact vulnerable moment. He was doing anything to escape death. Since Rodrick prevented him from getting the staff to block the first attack, he had no choice but to go to Riddick.

@@dbs3f Not really. Though his intent was to get the weapon he saw that Riddick was there waiting. In that moment he knew he was dead either way. He could have chosen to stay put and let his 2nd kill him. He instead chose to let Riddick kill him, doubtless to deny his "betraying" 2nd his prize.
I both love and hate Riddick. I applaud that the writers were basically given no back story except that Vin Diesel is a badass but otherwise no direction on his culture, planet, or the look of anything in the universe and they built it from the ground up and ended up with something not terrible. But I also lament that because it was just good enough, it killed the idea of going back and properly building on Pitch Black. The Riddick from Pitch Black was both terrifying and intriguing and the universe was much more akin to a dark Star Wars/Aliens vs a fantasy space setting.

What I liked about this is when he snaps the blade off in his done like FUCK YOU. Great scene.
Riddick waited to reveal his hand(knife) when the Marshall committed to the phase move.

I both love and hate Riddick.
