I think its crazy to have a van this large and not put in a shower and toilet, like a wet head in a boat. All that space wasted for the rare time that you might have company in your van. If you do have company you have the driver and passenger seats that swivel backwards. I mean it's your van but I personally would focus more my own comfort and convenience over what visitors might need.
Chrome…..My suggestion is to make it for you and you only! You’ll be in it the absolute most. Company comes and goes….you live there! Make it for YOU and Cruz only! ❤
Hey Chrome, if I was you, I'd go watch the van layout that Trent The Traveler has. It has a layout which I think would almost perfectly work for you. Dude has a desk set up and a dog room for his pup. 🙌
Build your van for YOU and not all kinds of people. I've never seen many guests in your van. It's a home for one. Build it for one and a dog...IMHO You can chill outside with your friends by the fire...
Seating for six is a lot of space to dedicate to something that will only be used 1% of the the time. 99% of the time it’s you and the pooch. Build it for YOU 👍🏼
Hey Chrome. Been watching you for about 5 years now. Love your channel. Just an idea to consider for your new van build….If you do the hanging closet space, consider routing some of your heater warm air into it and it will act like a drying cabinet for damp clothes and help prevent any mouldy stuff. Another idea….Foresty Forest has his Induction cooktop in a drawer, so you always have clear bench space, but it’s always plugged in and available just by opening a drawer. Cheers Mate, from Australia 🇦🇺
Hey Chrome how about a retractable bed that has the seating benches under it? It would probably double your available living space and give you access to your battery bank for maintenance. ❤️ your channel
Just listen to your thoughts. MAYBE you have a friend over. MAYBE you have 4 friends over. Build your house for YOU first. Friends will always find a place to sit. You already have 2 swivel chairs. That’s half of 4. Just make it versatile. Module seating on one side or something. The table could pull out but then have a 2nd tier attached underneath the table that extends the table further. Have a table that pulls out but folds out towards the sides to expand it.I put a build in the back of a truck w canopy and found room for a bed, kitchen, bathroom, storage, a 3 level book shelf, sliding door to secure the canopy, and cabinets for food and tools. Just be super smart about it.
Instead of letting Cruzie go through a maze to get in bed. Under your table pull out, have drawers pull out from under your bed. There is a company in the states that does a mockup with cardboard on how the van would look before a build is done. It gives you a 3D perspective and walk-through for changes. Think about it. Also, Lowe's you could get a fridge 12volt, that does not pull that much. There is a company called RecPro that maybe they could sponsor your build, build a relationship with.
Hey Chrome, a new sunscriber here from Texas. The first video of yours I watched is when you bought this van. I love your attitude and your vibe by the way. I have an idea for the shower. You can make a floor/platform that slides out from the floor of the van in the Garage/under the bed area to the outside of the van when you open back doors. The platform puls out as far as the doors go. You can make it out of sturdy metal and its floor can be made of grill mesh soo when you shower the water drains down and out as you shower and it dries quickly. The shower itself can be hung on the van door and you can get a shower curtain the wraps around. You can use heavy duty sliders for the platform.
Hi Chrome, get a Happijac bed system, sitting area under during a day. There will be room for a closet and full bathroom with hidden toilet and extendable walls.
I second the Jarrod Tocci comment. He has toured some absolutely beautiful van creations on his channel. Not all will be to your taste, but so many different design layouts. And so many hidden gems within a van.
1.) I remember several Videos where you tell people to just use the van and then build it how you use it. 2.) Planning space for people who rarely are in your van is kinda strange, to waste so much space. You have two very comfortable svivel seats already. 3.) and most important, your desk now is pointed to the front of the van. I like to look out the front window and would not change that. i have to be able to look outside from where i work and sit. Have fun Chrome, just my 2 Cents
Chrome: just wanted to say that I concur with the guy who question the need for ‘so many seats’. Seats take up space. If benches/bench seating is used, then of course the space UNDER the benches can be used for many things, BUT THE SPACE ABOVE SEATS MUST BE KEPT OPEN TO PROVIDE BODY CLEARANCE/HEADROOM. Wasted, utterly wasted when not used. I think a better idea would be to as he suggested just go with perhaps two seats enabling a couple of people to sit face-to-face and let it go at that. Really, how many/WHAT PERCENTAGE OF THE TIME ARE YOU GOING TO NEED SPACE FOR MORE THAN TWO PEOPLE TO SIT FACING EACH OTHER?
Check out Trelino composting toilets for your new build. They are simple, small and work great! They're also inexpensive in the world of composting toilets. We put one in our van 2 years ago and love it.
You could try the farthest end of the kitchen counter nearest the sitting area have a drop leaf countertop. After cooking put that drop leaf down and that gives you more room for the sitting area.
I try thing out, with minimal build. When it works for me than you can spend more time to build. When not scrap it. My needs change very often and have this kind of freedom at your decision is priceless. So my vanbuild is very variabel.
Id put kitchen next to door so the cooking smell can vent out door. With a next to door placement it would be perfect place for under counter fridge for ease of loading groceries and not having to go back if van to get to fridge.
Use the "step drawers" for Cruz! 1 for food bowl. 1 for toys / snacks. Lucky Cruz ! His own storage /steps. Might want a little texture on the steps. Finished wood maybe to slippery. 🐾 Also, different video you mentioned a shower. If you could put a faux floor over a shower pan, you could get a foldable dog wash. Shower curtain goes inside. But you could bathe Cruzie too !
I love the wardrobe idea for storage. You haven’t had many visitors so seating for two plus the front seats should be adequate. I’m excited for you and will be watching with anticipation.
Hi Chrome you are so excited right now, don't worry to much about you with 3 guest space, build to accommodate every space that will fit all of your needs like shower, closet, long counter top space for desk/table space just for you. So long Em can visit for lunch. What if you build a nook under your bed for Cruzzy bear. Anyway happy building I'm sure you will have the perfect plan.❤❤❤
Do a card board design 1st after measuring so you dont waste materials and weight but you can see what the build will be!! Card board cut outs !!!! please vote this up so he can see it please!!
❤ cruz steps sounds great! Some dog owners do a retractable bed gate so their dogs dont roll off by accident during their sleep, when their bed is so high.
Make cardboard mockups first to see if all fits. I think you can also create a nice storage above the van chairs. Seen them doing it before. Btw, the less wood, the lighter and more economical on fuel.
Not sure if this has been mentioned but you have a lot of boxes in your shop use those to stack inside to give you a 3D visual of how tall things are and how open the space will look once it's filled
Check out Japanese Van builds. They are cool and ultra-modern. They use a lot of Metal finishes, which are lighter than wood, and the reflection creates a feeling of light and space. They have had years of refining small but exquisite living spaces.
Put the bare necessities in it and go on a camping trip same as you did with your original van. Live in it before you build it. Elevate the fridge, easier than squatting down to get to everything. I watch caravan owners also, I was going to have a wardrobe for hanging, like I do in a house, they remove their wardrobe hanger and fold everything, much better use of space, I agree with them.
have bed at sitting level, then you get a couch and bed all in one. make a simple narrow wall cabinet with a fold down table next to bed. have a movable storage bench that can sit under table cabinet and slid out to use when table is down. will save space and feel more spacious.
Have you thought about Murphy twin beds that fold down and have an option to meet in the middle (for your full size) and you would have seating when the bed is up. Or your table could fold over to be the platform for the bed. When company is there your beds are folded up and the table is out.Maybe put the food/water bowls under the passenger seat & pull out as needed ? We currently are using an induction top & have never used the gas burners or our oven. Yes to curves with the overhead cabinets. So excited for you !
Here is my thought for the van. I like your idea for the driver's side. In the dog step going to the bed, your editing equipment inside it. Other side wardrobe cabinet (you like your shirts & shoes). You've never wanted a sink before, so why start now. Just put a faucet to get water with a flat countertop.
I've seen some vans with a bed on a lever action panel that you can lift up to access things underneath from the inside. If you got 1-1.5 feet of lift, that would let you get into your fridge/freezer from inside the car. Also, don't forget that two people can sit in your reversed front seats, so that you could seat 4 with a smaller table in the back and fold down or rotatable small tables for the people in front to eat off of.
Hi Chrome with a heated floor Cruze would be comfortable in a floor bed and your bed would stay clean much longer. You just loose a snuggle buddy . You can adjust with time. Please put the shoe cabinet away from the food and dish cabinet. Have you given any thought to a propane stove with oven. Once you have used an oven to cook brownies and cookies etc you will never go back to life without it. Have a nice day. Tom in the Maritimes at the NB-NS border
One sliding table option would be that it slid from under your bed as planned but also slid out the back end completely, turned, and is supported by brackets on the two open doors. This gives you an outdoor table if required. A shower curtain across the two back open doors would be a shower option which can then be left to drip dry before storage and takes up minimal room. Cheap is the focus of these ideas but sometimes simpler is better. A wardrobe with a mirror on the door would give you someone you can trust to talk to when making decisions.
If you make the table able to slide both directions it could serve as an outdoor counter/table as well as one inside (with the back doors open). Looks like a lot of fun planning this out. Enjoy 🙂
You might consider having the rear bunk forward by 16-18 inches and have a creative bulkhead. I am big into fold down tables too. Then the back side the garage would be full height for different things in the future. Under the bunk at the bulkhead you would have access doors or folding work table. Make sure to make an emergency exit too.
My first thought when you started taping the bed from the doors inawrd was, "Don't forget there is going to be insulation!" 😂 Then, when you started the seating it was, "Don't forget there will be insulation and there will be cushions!" 😅Hahahaha!😂
If you were to put in a shower, you could have one that recirculates the water, which mean you could have endless showers without effecting your water supply.
Wardrobe the way to go ,designed for you or one other guest ,like you said you can use the front seats for others to sit in if you have visitors, subtle curves are resting to the eyes and can make small places look large .
Hey Chrome this build is gong to be epic ,so happy Cruzie is accommodated 🤗cant wait ,but seriously dont build for other people you might regret losing the space ,GOODLUCK 🤗❤PS have you thought of a name ,my suggestion if i can be again cheeky😁 Blue moon bc it only comes once in a life time 💙💙💙💙💙💙🌚🌛💫💥
Happy New Home, Chrome! 🎉 loving the planning, it’s always so exciting. Stoked for you! Regarding the kitchen/sink, would you not put the kitchen on the slide door side? So if you’re camping with others you can have the door open and still chat while cooking. Also if anything goes wrong you can just chuck it out the door? I realise it’s a personal thing 😅 just spit balling. Totally agree about the wardrobe, how sick would that be! So stoked to see where you go with it all! Thanks for always sharing it all ✌️
What about one bench fits 2 people and the other is half the size so fits 1 person. Therefore you can build a kitchen with storage and extra space for other stuff. And the 2 seater bench, can you fit your fridge inside it to maximize space?
So glad you are adding toilet. On the side you are talking about a wardrobe. Let the top be hanging. But make the next level done a pull out fridge. Maybe a dish drawer under that. If you pull fridge out of garage, you could do a big shoe drawer back there. Use fridge more than random shoes.
It's funny to watch you do this because this is how normal people do it, a lot of times when you see a van build you think that how did they figure all this out because they never show that part. Anyway this is going to be interesting. I absolutely adore the color of your van! I'm envious I wish I was at that stage where you are taping out my design that I've had in my head for the longest time
Makes me a tiny bit nervous hearing you plan a wardrobe, shoe cabinet and so much storage. Because, my friend, you have some hoarding tendencies 😆 Just remember: the more storage you have, the more stuff you'll acquire. Make sure to check in with yourself to be certain that's what you really want. Either way, i know your van will be gorgeous ❤️
Could you do your bed in a happy jack lift so when it’s up, you have room for seating or a fold down desk? Would also allow you to have the back doors open and more usable.
What you show us today for ideas is going to change a hundred times in your head before you settle on your design. So fun to brainstorm. ABBE MINOR designed her Sprinter ! I loved it. Keeping your front seats as seating options is better idea. Flip down off the wall table to edit from. Water near the door so can reach outside to clean sweet Cruzie paws. So much fun wish I could help!
You forgot a few things Chrome. hot tub for Cruz, heated dog bed, doggy door, beer bowl for Cruz, a spare room in case Cruz gets a lady or ten that want to sleep over, a fridge for Cruz. I'm sure Cruz might have a few more ideas for you to build in.😁
It's funny to watch you, & the tape measure, and visualizing it in your mind, reminds me of me. I do the same with my apartment here in Montana. Enjoy the process!!!😊
But how often are you going to have 4 people inside your van? What if you just put a little portable seat at the end for the rare occasions when you have that much company inside?
I hope you remember to leave room for the ceiling. sorry chrome, I don't know how to phrase it. you want to stand, but if you have to much floor & ceiling, you'd be cutting your standing space. I hope I make sense. But you're the expert, what do I know? lol I'm the woman who thought you were saying 'double 'd's instead of double 'v's lol
I think its crazy to have a van this large and not put in a shower and toilet, like a wet head in a boat. All that space wasted for the rare time that you might have company in your van. It's Chrome, he's happy pooping in a bucket and take showers outside or in gyms
You must be new here. Chrome loves his Luggable Lou
He should have just bought a leisure travel van, but I know that goes against what the channel is (they also do a lot with limited space)
I can’t wait for the episode where the shower install comes in, shower slash storage area
@@weswarren5987 If it doesnt have a toilet, shower, fresh water tank, grey water tank and black water tank its just a car with a sleeping bag in it.
Speedy recovery Jeffie! In our thoughts and prayers. ❤🙏

love the new energy.. fun to watch you figure it all out!
We have a bottom drawer that holds the dogs water and food bowls in our trailer. It’s great!
You got a shop full of boxes, use those to mock up realistic space use
HAVING THE ICECO PULL OUT IN BOTH DIRECTIONS - OUTSIDE & INSIDE - IS AN AWESOME IDEA!

Just awesome to see you enjoying all the benefits of your hard work you did to get to where you are today. Truly inspiring. ❤
Chrome, look at "Ladi and Margaret" van build out. I think you could get some great ideas.
Yeah that was my thought as well.
Happyjak bed lift...gives you tons of room.. bed goes away when you don't need it....just like your shower

Chrome is talking about a Sink and Shower inside his van, What is the world coming to LOL
Put your bed on hydraulic system so you can lift it up to the ceiling when you are not using it.
With daily use, that's just one more thing to maintain and break.
Yes because it would lower enough for Cruz to get onto, but he’d lose the garage 🤔

You can get 500lbs drawer slides for the table. If you have 2, your table could hold 1000lbs. No need for extra support.
Chrome: just wanted to say that I concur with the guy who question the need for ‘so many seats’. Seats take up space. One of the step drawers for Cruz could be his toy storage, so any dirt that comes off his paws won’t really contaminate anything in the drawer.

Chrome build your van the way you want it to be. At the end of the day it is you that is going to stay in it. Looking forward to the build videos.
Hey man! I think RUclipsr Trent the Traveler's layout would work well for you. Have you seen it? Congrats on the new van!🤙
Well I for one am looking forward to seeing what you accomplish in your new home! I love van tours😅
Put the batteries and water tank in the underbody. Maybe the diesel heater too. There was so much room down there.
Use cardboard to simulate your features...easier to visualize
That's a great idea!!
You've got a lot of work in front of you. It should be fun to see how you progress over the next 12 months All the best from Ireland.
Could you do your bed in a happy jack lift so when it’s up, you have room for seating or a fold down desk? Would also allow you to have the back doors open and more usable.
He wants to use the area under the bed as a garage like he has in his Econoline van. 😊
Electric bed that rises up and lowers down like that traveler kid has in his mercedes
Dude Chrome, yes!! This is going to be incredible!!
You are going to have so much fun. 😊
