I went through a deep, deep, DEEP youtube hole to get here. You know what video I started on? The don't stop me now music video. Over the past 7 hours, I started at don't stop me now, and went deeper and deeper until I came to, realizing that I was watching a video about playing the jaw harp. The worst part is that I was pretty much in a trance-like state. I was watching, and clicking new videos, and liking, but basically sleepwalking. I basically woke up watching this video, except I wasn't asleep. I've had enough internet for today.
Lamb OfGod You might try a dan moi for your time in braces. Ultra gnarly sound, and easily played against the lips. Also what harp are you playing? Love the name. I have seen L.o.g. Twice in concert and they killed it both times.
My grandfather passed recently and I found a jaw harp amongst his old stuff, and decided to try and play it, thanks so much for helping, it means a lot!
It’s incredible that this device can be incorporated into metal music, but if you haven’t checked them out already, take a look at The HU. Such amazing sound from an instrument when used in tandem with other traditional instruments.
It's amazing how quickly you can begin to make sounds with a decent harp. I just received my paval potkin I ordered from Bebbcorp Harpery and surprised myself when I began to make sounds with it by the time this tutorial video ended.

Because it makes little to no sound. It can also be dangerous and not safe for teeth. Real jaw harps make awesome sound and are relatively safe. Snoop is not.

Hyper Stormy the metal piece that you flick hit the edge of my tooth and chipped it and it ended up hitting the inner part of my lip a few times busting it open
While I cannot comment on that at the moment, I would add that there are many ways to help to immerse yourself in the experience. The one you stated is perfectly reasonable. If I was to add any advice I would say use your method, but also be kind and empathetic to all life surrounding you. Walk and play amongst the trees. Go to your garden and touch and talk to the plants. Rescue and relocate insects. All of these things before your harp meditation will help to deepen the experience. Play with your eyes closed. Surrender to the harp and abandon all ego. These are a few things that will, “immerse,” you in the experience, or sometimes called, “altering your state.” I am also fond of getting up and dancing while playing the harp for meditation, (not while on camera, lol). Anyways continue to do practices to immerse yourself. You never know how far down the rabbit hole goes. If you happen upon a hole in your travels follow it down a bit. Last piece of advice, if you are down to get weird, check out the book, “The Way of the Shaman,” by Micheal Harner, a famous anthropologist. Many of the things in this book and the exercises translate directly over to the jaw harp. I am about halfway through it and am loving the book and exercises. Enjoy. 😉
Bebbcorp Harpery yeah bro, I’m 34, have picked up the instrument fairly easily as I’ve played sax, clarinet n digerdoo, I find it most harmonious after a few beers n a pipe, With ur matesaround a fireplace, ive subbed to u bro, appreciate ur videos that r very matter of fact n common sense,
I'm gonna get this instrument someday before too long. My neighbors are gonna love my tribal neofolk harsh noise dark ambient music. Howls of agony and triumph accompanied by the twangy wah wahs of a mouth harp, glass breaking rhythmically alongside the constant drone of a power drill.
My son is autistic and he LOVES music, I'm getting him one for Christmas, think he could learn it with out getting mad?.... I could probably learn and teach him? I can't carry a tune in a bucket any tips?🌹
My son is seriously autistic, loves trance, minimal techno, etc. Something connects at a deep level of the spirit. I’m going to try playing this for him.
This instrument has a long history of being used to alter consciousness. It is good to hear that it helps your son to venture into the deep. Happy travels.
im autistic, i always struggled learning new things because i would get frustrated and overwhelmed. i had trouble knowing when it was okay to take a break!! breaks are underestimated in their power. a sensory break for me, (silencing headphones, dim lighting) was key when learning a noisy instrument that was so loud and near my ears. it would have been nice to have a nice mum like you help me know when to take a break, so maybe thats how you can help him? :) i know im a year late, i hope it went well!!!
Instruments like the Jaw Harp and the Cuica were so prevalent in the music for cartoons and games when I was a kid, but I never knew what they were called or how they worked. I legitimately thought that the cuica was a vocal sample, up until I heard someone say "That monkey yell sound you always hear in tropical music for games, that's a drum" It's really fascinating to learn about all this stuff, I'd love to learn how to play both of em
Nice collection, I just ordered a new Jaw harps and two vintage ones, hopefully I can learn to make some music and not just noise. My wife may not be too happy with my new hobby, probably gonna drive her crazy.
Helpful and pleasant video, thanks! Imgur brought me here and I am now seriously considering buying one of these. Even if I never master it, this is a soothing and really pleasing sound, such a unique instrument!
I just got my two first harps in the mail from you guys yesterday! I learned about them because I'm a skateboarder and Aaron homoki plays them alot, I'm having a bit of trouble playing but I'm getting it
I bought a cheap snoopy harp once, and the tanger was out of line straight from the box... I managed to get it to sound without clanging by applying steady sideways pressure on the twanger for a minute. Of course this was a crimped style connection I wouldn't recommend that on any real harp.
I've always wanted a Jaw Harp, and I got one for Christmas 👍👍👍 So I'm going to follow you step by step and get this nailed. As I've never played any sort of instrument before in my life, but the Jaw Harp has really got my attention 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Eh...perhaps I can get and play one later..right now I'm still in the first 1 to 2 months of healing up from dental implant surgery so any kind of vibration near the teeth like that may not be good for the bones as they regrow around the rods..I'd have to ask the surgeon who put them in if a jaw harp is okay..if they even know what that is lol.
Thank you for this video. I recently became interested in playing and your video was very helpful. I had a lot of clicks the first day or two, but have gotten much better with practice.
Super helpful, thank you so much! The other tutorial I saw had me biting my harp n it didn't feel right so I found you haha seriously thank you!! The raising of the one side is just to help it echo better/get your lips out of the way or?
2:52: I didn't get it at all it just sounded like metal clanking, I got really frustrated, and threw my Snoopy harp at my monitor, but its a good thing i missed XD
Snoopy harps are not a real jaw harp. They will not make any noise or music. They are also quite dangerous for your mouth. Return it as defective. Check out the awesome harps at theharpery.com. No lemon guarantee and free shipping.
Lol, just ran across a much more recent short of yours which taught me how to add some rhythm by breathing, and now I've come across this. Super helpful!! Also MASTODON is amazing.

Thank you for explaining this technique so well! I’ve wondered this for a long time.
I've been getting good at it. :)
+Ashley Finch Fantastic. You should post a video showcasing your skill on our page. The North American Jaw Harpists on fb. Keep on harping Ashley!
So Simple, Personal and GROOOVY
Eh...perhaps I can get and play one later..right now I'm still in the first 1 to 2 months of healing up from dental implant surgery so any kind of vibration near the teeth like that may not be good for the bones as they regrow around the rods..I'd have to ask the surgeon who put them in if a jaw harp is okay..if they even know what that is lol.
ShinKyuubi okay
Awesome video. Always good to hear jaw Harp. Great job

Thank you for this video. I recently became interested in playing and your video was very helpful. I had a lot of clicks the first day or two, but have gotten much better with practice.
EDM: The Prequel
@@bebbcorpharpery7331please help, it sounds like metal clanking. I can’t do it 😢
You are a great teacher. Thank you friend.

Five stars for the Mastodon shirt!
Lol, just ran across a much more recent short of yours which taught me how to add some rhythm by breathing, and now I've come across this. Super helpful!!
Also MASTODON is amazing.
