    Questions for the next video?

      Trombone was my first instrument and over the ten years or so that I played it scales were the absolute foundation of warm ups and setting up my understanding of music theory. I out it aside and didn't play anything for about 10 years until my banjo arrived, happily right around the time of your 30 Days series. I finished that up and now am alternating between Brainjo and finding tabs to songs I like and messing around with them. The whole time though, I have been puzzled by the lack of scales. I think they would help me out in a number of ways.
      I guess this is a long-winded way of me asking do you have any how to play scales related content or any plans to make some?

      More warm up stuff! What other scale patterns and exercises do you use in warming up in a certain key?
      What are more ways to work on fundamentals while warming up and practicing?
      Tips on memorizing tunes, backup and licks...
      thanks Eli!

      I would like to see a very detailed discussion about capo placement and usage in different keys. Also, the issues with tuning and other things you run into while using a capo on stage.

      Do you have D-tuners or "cheat-a-key"? I like to learn more about d-tuner songs like Flint Hill Special, Randy Lynn rag and Earl's Breakdown

      Thanks for posting this, Eli! Curious about what the scale patterns are that you're using here, and about how much time you put into scales, intervals & arpeggios in relation to other fundamentals. As someone who used to play woodwinds, I have a predilection towards these things that I feel like doesn't always serve me well on the banjo, since it can eat up the limited time I could otherwise be putting into three-finger rolls and songs.

    I'm a firm believer, especially when it comes to anything bluegrass, if you're not practicing to a metronome than you're not practicing!

    I use the Shelor finger picks too. Mine were not as steep as yours. I tried them more your shape and they are much faster off the string and much less pick noise. Thanks!

    Hi Eli, love your lessons. I would like to practice scales and arpeggios, with the objetive of eventually have control of the banjo neck, etc. However, I do not know how to begin. Specially regarding which fingers to use. On the guitar, I use a flat pick, on a up and down motion. On the banjo I have no idea. I do not thing that we should just the thumb. That would be very limited. Maybe using the thumb and the index (I) finger and the thumb? It would be nice if you have the time and patience to make up a lesson covering the subject. As you can see, I am knew at the banjo (69 and still having hopes to learn it). Cheers from Brazil. Be safe. CB

    Mr. Gilbert, could you help me find or make tabs for the intro tune (the banjo part) off of KMFDM's song W.W. lll , i have loved this intro since i heard it back in the day. I am a newer banjo owner and player, and i have always wanted to some how learn this. If you have the time... Thank you for everything you share. -CJ Loeppke

    I love Sammy's picks so much, I am almost too embarrassed to say....I bought 6 pair. I spent the better part of two years trying all kinds of pics, and I spent a small fortune in the process. I was watching a video interview of Sammy Shelor and he mentioned his pics so I got some. A few years back I bought out Elderly Instruments inventory of these picks. I am pretty sure that I have enough now to last me for a couple decades.... Just in case.

    Any plans to talk about truly improvising on fiddle tunes like you did on st Anne's reel rather than just lick substitution?

      @EliGilbertBanjo  3 года назад +5

      Yes! Planning to cover some music theory stuff first but the plan is a full series on improvisation

      @@EliGilbertBanjo wonderful, it would help those of us that don't understand how to use scales. I try to change a single note in a single string tab and it falls apart!
