I've been looking everywhere for guidance on the wiring. I got confused from the black and white wires from the Maxx Air vs the black and red wires I have in my van. Thank you!!! after a ton of videos you were the only one that has went over this. Thank you again!
As always Jamie I appreciate your straightforward format. No BS. I don't always agree with your methods but then I can take what I learned from you and do it however I like in the comfort of my own driveway with all my lifetime collection of tools. It's interesting that you are doing it seemingly in front of someone's apartment so that might explain some things. The lady who came by to chat was funny..."Are we filming?" LOL...you were very nice, and she did then leave you alone. Poor lady had no idea...

Amazing videos Jamie. I wish I already knew about the electtical. Just bought a bare, used 2015 Ford Transit. Thank you for posting all your videos. Been following you for 2 years. You're amazing!😇
Thanks for this. It was very helpful during my fan install a couple of days ago. I wish I hosed down my roof sooner even with the wet caulk as I did a lot of scrubbing of those little metal shavings this morning. Also, the angle grinder looks easier than my jigsaw but it got the job done.
The white wire goes to negative and the black wire gets a 7.5 fuse (in-line is fine) goes to positive. It comes with a fuse also, but that’s how I do it.

Not related to the fan, but I also found a handy organizer for the rear driver side door in the Professional's Choice equestrian trailer caddy. Nice job, safe travels!
Grinder: $12 at Harbor Freight with their 20% off coupon. I'd suggest the roof cleaning before the corner holes! :) Dangerous setting self tapping screws like that on such thin flexible sheeting as vans have, would predrill with an undersize drill bit so amateurs aren't over driving the screws and risking cracking the flange... Also, since minimum roof thickness is 1.125" for the MAXXfan, many will want to frame out the freshly cut hole with something like 2x2 lumber before screwing down the roof flange, and that way the screws will just go through into the wood. This gives you a little more solid of a mounting, as opposed to just screwing the interior trim piece into whatever ceiling material you use (plywood, tongue and groove, etc.). Also, carefully wash the roof after the Dycor dries: all the metal shavings will rust from the cutout that blew across the roof and create a heck of a rusty stain. Oftentimes easier to do the wiring before setting the fan in place. I'd also recommend cable wrap on all wires in the van. Just not worth the few bucks of savings versus the chance of a shortout later that will be a huge thing to deal with: www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result/index/?dir=asc&order=EAScore%2Cf%2CEAFeatured+Weight%2Cf%2CSale+Rank%2Cf&q=cable+wrap A great fan. Hey Jamie, Great video here as well as the solar/shore power install. I was going to have a Maxxfan installed at your van build party but doesn't look like I'm going to make it as I have toooo much left to do on my van build. Not much of a carpenter and I'm slow. Anyway, on the MaxxAir fan install, what type of screws should be used for the outside flange on a fiberglass high top van roof?
The ones that come with it should be fine. Id use 2 tubes of dicor instead of one on fiberglass. The dicor holds it down too. Try to make the build! Cheers!
Thanks Jamie. I'll try. Comimg from E. TN and would be a great help to have folks who know a lot more than me helping me to move this van build along. This is my first go around at this and I wanted to stay out there rather than drive all the way back to close out everything back here. The shore power lines wire into the inverter/charger. The inverter needs to be an inverter/charger, not just an inverter. Here is an example: amzn.to/3bGykKR

Hey, Felicia! We haven’t set a date yet but expect it to be sometime this fall. I have many diy videos on solar and fan installs that are easy to follow if you want to tackle some projects before then. Very excited for you!
Where did you get the wires coming from the van? Did you run separate wires and connect it to the van batteries or battery bank for the solar? You didn’t say where the wires came from that you’re connecting to the fan.
Just remember when you put in the plastic trim on the inside of the fan and draw that line, you are measuring how much material to cut off. So, you measure that distance from the opposite side and cut that second line. Otherwise, you may cut off too little, or even worse, too much.
Yes, that's a great point that I didn't get into on the video. The best thing a person can do is if in doubt take off a little at a time even if it means making several cuts. Thanks for the input.
Hi Jamie.... I already have a COMMANDER CHARGE CONTROLLER from Renogy. Do I Need this type of Inverter that CC got installed? If not then what Inverter do you recomend? Thank-U in advance.
Yeah, actually any size grinder disk would work, but you’re right, it needs to be one design for metal cutting. Side-by-side the ones designed for cutting brick and mortar look exactly the same, but it says it on the side of the desk. Good luck!
Thanks for the walk-through! I’m going to cut the hole in my Promaster this morning. A question...I see how you connect the power but I didn’t see where you got the power. Are you tapping in to existing power in the back (brake lights?) or are you running power from the source?
Hey Joe! We connected to after market deep cycle batteries through a ground block I installed. We want to avoid using the car battery because it is not deep cycle, thus the fan drawing juice from it on a regular basis will shorten it's life. Good luck on your install!
hi Jamie < so these fans are good ? so my understanding of these fans is that you can leave your window down a little and the fan will drag the old hot air out correct ? they must be very strong draw
So how did you get on with all those iron filings from the grinder a year later with the rust? You didnt clean them off and its a white van so im guessing your van roof has rust stains all over it now?

The shore power lines wire into the inverter/charger. The inverter needs to be an inverter/charger, not just an inverter. Here is an example: amzn.to/3bGykKR

Where did you get the wires coming from the van? Did you run separate wires and connect it to the van batteries or battery bank for the solar? You didn’t say where the wires came from that you’re connecting to the fan.
We used wires that we bought separate. 14 gauge. Ran them to the 12v fuse block powered by the coach batteries and used a 7.5 amp fuse
I've seen a lot of installers file the metal and spray Rustoleum before applying the butyl tape. Is that not needed to prevent rust??
Just remember when you put in the plastic trim on the inside of the fan and draw that line, you are measuring how much material to cut off. So, you measure that distance from the opposite side and cut that second line. Otherwise, you may cut off too little, or even worse, too much.
Yes, that's a great point that I didn't get into on the video. The best thing a person can do is if in doubt take off a little at a time even if it means making several cuts. Thanks for the input.
Huh?
Hi Jamie.... I already have a COMMANDER CHARGE CONTROLLER from Renogy. Do I Need this type of Inverter that CC got installed? If not then what Inverter do you recomend? Thank-U in advance.
No need to get one like CCs. Xantrex pure sine wave is a good one.👌👍🏻🤙🏼
@@enigmaticnomadics NICE!! and Wayyy Much CHEAPER. Thank-Uuuuu
The slab of wood you were posing with in the intro...was that Big Basin?
Thanks for the video! What is the year and wheelbase/ext of the promaster?
Not sure of the wheel base, but it was a new pro master last year when we filmed it. Hope that helps.
Some peeps paint sealing, rustproofing paint on the exposed edges
4.5 to 4 inch angle grinder; cutting disc? correct ?? There are multi use cutting, that are steel, that last longer. ?
Yeah, actually any size grinder disk would work, but you’re right, it needs to be one design for metal cutting. Side-by-side the ones designed for cutting brick and mortar look exactly the same, but it says it on the side of the desk. Good luck!
Do you need two fans? How do you get good circulation with only air coming in?
I have this fan and I can’t seem to install it on my 120V AC. I tired a LED light driver/ converter with a 6amp rating but it didn’t want to run
Yes, Maxx fans are probably the best on the market.
@@enigmaticnomadics : thanks, Jamie also I continually re-watch your video on Lou and his vardo , how is he going ?
So how did you get on with all those iron filings from the grinder a year later with the rust? You didnt clean them off and its a white van so im guessing your van roof has rust stains all over it now?
It's complete madness! Don't you have something to wipe down for the third time today?
Flawless install, buy jamie a sixer longnecks.
something I forgot to add to last comment when I get the van build I will donate some money to help with expenses
Hello
Would you be interested in doing a max air in my Ford Expedition?
what if i do not have those red & black wires you had there, do you have a vid showing us how to do that? :) !!!
OR is there away to directly wire the fan to some kind of rechargable battery???
Yes. The black wire from the fan goes to positive on the battery
What was the fan wired to, I know to the van, but what in particular?
The fan was wired to the fuse block which was getting power from the coach batteries in the van. Hope that helps.
