Agree with Book 1 being one of the best ironmans but I think an understated quirk of FE3 that I really enjoy is the sheer amount of things that count as free actions in it. Like realizing you can still attack, trade, etc. after visiting a village was really funny to me.

I find it interesting that most long-running game series are at their most difficult on the NES and SNES, platformers especially. Then there's Fire Emblem, which I would argue started off very easy and got harder every game up until FE5 or 6. When I played FE1, 2, and 3, I was really surprised how easy they were. I expected them to kick my ass because very old games have that reputation. FE3 Book 1 is fun. I like how Mercerius and Parthia double EXP gain in this game. I used Parthia to make a really strong Tomas. Twas fun.
I gotta say Book 1 Gharnef map being different from the fe1/11 version brings freshness to the campaign and i find that map sometimes more enjoyable as its short and sweet with very little downtime
I actually disagree with it being so easy as to not incentivize you to use the strongest tools at your disposal to be a plus side. Ideally I think strategy games should push to achieve a level of difficulty where using everything at your disposal is encouraged since it leads to creative thinking. Like in Conquest, I and other players have funs experimenting with different unit builds because the level design and enemies often encourage out of the box thinking to achieve desirable results, which imo is where a lot of the fun in these games come from. It's satisfying to come up with an interesting solution to a complex problem Inversely I don't really think Shadow Dragon does the best job at this either since using the strongest tools at your disposal can run the risk of making things rather dry, like using Wolf or Sedgar to just soak up all the damage in the game. It's why I find Radiant Dawn to be quite the boring experience, I can just use Haar to insta clear every map he's a part of. So while I really love the DS remakes, I don't think any of the interpretations of Archanea do a truly good job of tactical balance. I still vastly prefer the DS games though since they offer a challenge compared to fe3 where I feel like no matter what restrictions I place on myself it's a brainless experience. I mean I was able to beat all of book 1 with just matthis without having to put much thought into it at all
I think I phrased it poorly, my intent was not to say the hard or demanding games are bad but, rather that they are not always what I'm in the mood for. The appeal of FE3B1 (to me) is that its a popcorn game, one I can turn my brain off for when I am tired and just want something to engage lightly with. Re: radiant dawn, its funny you say that because one of the things I love about RD is how on hard mode it rewards you for making use of all your tools, especially in the DB segments (C/B rank supports being really impactful, Micciah's glass cannon status, choosing to shift or halfshift with volug, forges vs Aimee bargains, and even the normally trash crossbows) but this remains the case in other maps too (making use of the dragon auras in the tower comes to mind, as does managing Janaff/Ulki guage in late part 3...while Haar and Zihark are truly absurd units, they arent always the be all end all answer to the maps you have them in)
Haar being OP is a EU/US problem. JP FE10 doesn't have XP promotion for Tier 3, you need to use an item, which Haar won't have access to until much later. This doesn't make Haar bad he's still amazing but it does limit him snowballing the game, when he reaches lvl 20 no more stat gains. It also encourages to play other units to avoid the "waste of XP". JP FE10 Haar is still an S tier unit but he's not the solution to everything the game throw at you.
@@DaniDoyle I can't really agree here, since the optimal strategy for the dawn brigade is to invest all xp and stat boosters into one or two carry units (usually one) and completely ignore the rest. Part 1 and the dawn brigade segments of part 3 are significantly harder if you attempt to actually use all your resources by usign full deployment and giving them all XP/ In that sense, Radiant Dawn actually encourages one to only use a few tools. At least the game has more flexibility when fielding Ike's Army and in part 2 one kind of has to use everything.
I am familiar with Mystery and New Mystery both. Mystery looks fascinating, but I also appreciate the slickness of NM, and while the Kris-related changes to the story are questionable, they're not completely awful, and the assassin thing has a charm. Basically, "both is good."
FE3 is a good case study of how important the battle forecast is. Doing math for every factor involved in combat for FE1 and 2, while not inhenrtly worse, slows down an already slow game even more. The battle forecast makes playing the game a lot snappier, which is why for mepersonally, it's the cutoff point of how far back I'm willing to go when playing the older games. FE1 and 2 aren't bad, I just don't have the patience to play them lol.
most of my streams have cat cams, and viewers can even donate to give them a treat! I think its a cute way to add some kitty charm to the playthroughs :)
My Yulina was so, but soon cracked. Her RNG was divine and she got a Magic point every single level up basically. She literally capped magic before promoting And my Yumeno became my best tank - with 19 def 18 res - at one point ( I actually capped out everyone's stats on that run though because I abused the Star Sphere and arena, and then bought stat increases on the last secret shop )
It's funny because I never thought about the house not taking your turn away I actually used it unintentionally in book 2 when you get bantu I had a fire stone already so I gave it to Marth along with boots and was able to talk to bantu, he spanws immediately next to Marth, and then give him the fire stone on the next then, plus dancer and immediately went to town
I'm playing it, it's entertaining, i like how the maps changes a little do to having to cut others, although, while I wouldn't say it's easy, it's easier than Fe11 hard 1 and 2 for now and almost on par with the normal mode of that game The old weight sistem is interesting and makes things new in combat for me
I kinda liked wooden calvary on my playthough of shadow dragon on normal but would not want to do it warpless. I liked warping people into the balista spams face.
Another fe3 b1 enjoyer 😌 I think its funny how people always try to bring up the downsides of fe3 b1 like "well, there's cut characters and chapters", when the cut characters are either mostly trivial (sorry darros fans), and the cut chapters aren't really that important (clash in macedon and wooden calvalry lol), and the important stuff that does happen shifts to another chapter. Lots of fun simple mechanics and fairly easy imo

I've always thought book 1 was better than book 2 mostly just because the map design is so much better in book 1. I might have also said that book 1 is better than FE1 despite the missing content but the dismounting mechanic is a real drag that just adds nothing and is really questionably implemented. Jagen has worse stats dismounted than Cain or Abel and the way it just ruins my girl Minerva my god. So instead just play the FE1 remake in the FE8 engine.
That is the point. Paladins were the best class in Fe1 and Jagen was too good so Paladin as a whole was nerfed. Even with dismount Paladins and Fliers were still some of the best units because most maps were still outdoors
@@boredomkiller99 Jagen was definitely not too good in fe1. He was basically Abel with a single good level worth of stats and 0% growths. Being forced to use admittedly pretty bad lances while mounted in fe3 doesn't really hurt the mounted unit much at all when dismounting to use a sword doesn't even end your turn, and it lets fliers ignore their bow weakness which is pretty whack. Getting nerfed in only like 15% of maps is a bad way of balancing classes anyway. I honestly think the mounted units in fe1 are mostly fine except for maybe Minerva but I wouldn't mind them being nerfed if it wasn't done in such a shoddy way. It hurts the game more than it helps. Fe3 book one is my favorite version of Fe1. The game is easy to iron man because classes are generally more important then stats for determining unit value and stat boosters are juiced so you can fix a bad unit's problematic stat pretty easily unless it is move. I think you also miss some what the point of dismounting. While unlike Fe 3 book 2 which had maps designrd around it, dismounting in Book one mostly exists to nerf paladins by requiring them to dismount to use swords which was an overall better weapon type then lances Truth is mounts were waaaaaaaay too good ij Fe1 and Shadow Dragon made the same mistake as Fe1 and gave them dual weapon access again though swords sucked. This plus Javalins having a 20 weapon wt and there was no way to offset was also good at avoiding thr 1-2 range weapon that would start developing after 3. Low stat caps also helped. Shadow Dragon is a bad remake for several reasons. While units were replaceable they werent expendable in fe1 and 3. Your best units came earlier usually so you felt their deaths but the filler units were still capable enough to function. Meanwhile unless you play below like 3 stars, most characters in Shadow Dragon suck and considering you get generic that can be surprisingly competent and gaiden chapters with a couple being very beneficial like getting a fourth warp and it really ruined the core design of the game which was death was inevitable but that didn't mean it was favorable. Also Shadow Dragon undid Roshea speed buff and for some reason thought Gordon was too good and nerfed his strength to by 10% wtf, ruined Narvarre and missed the point of Caesar and Randy but lowering Randy's growths and buffing Caesar's Lastly Fe3 limita warp staves to two and it is counted as an item so you can't repair them with repair staff.
