And finally I understood it all. Not only that, but also cognition in other systems, e.g., in microbial life. Once one knows the nature and the texture of cognition, the medium in which it resides becomes irrelevant.
That tiny brain can integrate multiple sensory inputs, find food, water, mates, can walk and FLY! It's kind of hilarious that AI researchers can't even reason as well as a fruit fly despite using more energy than all the fruit flies that have ever lived, just to produce hallucinations.

Hello Anton. Thanks for great content
I've always been afraid of getting lost in a fruit fly brain. Now I can rest easy!
This is absolutely insane
Amazing first step, but one can only imagine the challenges with taking on conciousness!
Wonderful as always Anton. Thank you. 🫡😊
So a little apple cider vinegar, touch of sugar and a drop of dishwashing detergent will defeat the AI robots chasing us?
This is both incredibly cool and very, very, scary because i think it's a huge step toward creating agi when combined with neuromorphic computing.
This is insane. Much respect for the researchers and Princeton.

Flies are amazing. If you haven't watched a satellite fly troll a wasp trying to lay eggs on the wasp's nest, I suggest watching that sometime soon.
When Anton titles a video "Incredible" - I'm all in. ❤❤
Wow.. I love connections 🎉
That has gotta be some cool new equipment for measuring those connections.
Even flies know Doggy Style...
I was not prepared for the image @1:20. Not prepared at all.
Will have on hand the next time I find myself inside a fruit fly's brain, last time it took me ages to find the exit without any directions.
Why does it's brain look like it's made out of fruity pebbles?
Let's see if they can input this connectome into a simulator and check if you get fly behavior. Doubt it very much.
Thank you so much for speaking calmly and slowly. Your awesome Anton😊
The first part of this video made me want to replace the yellow sticky traps and refill the red wine vinegar traps.
Can't sleep.
Pull up YT.
See one of my favourites YT'rs dropped a video two minutes ago.
Fruit fly porn.

Fascinating video, as always! 😊
OMG they bugged their computers
ty wonderful person
Fingers crossed that the Patent Office calls existing brains prior art
Given AI's accelerating effect on this project, there's no reason to assume future research progress will be linear.
Wait till they create thought maps. Or be able to re create motor neurons and have robots move like literal people.
isn't that kinda of the first mind upload in the world
Gives me a glimpse of hope for my MS and all my friends, known and unknown that suffer neurological diseases.

Edit: there’s no way in my mind the rate of progress will stay the same :) it will only accelerate as it always has
So what do fruit flies think about
They think of fruit and doggie style! You don’t need a neurological map to know that!
Elon Musk has also been known to have the ability to produce a lot of offspring.
He's the fruit fly of humanity.
I know those brains. I’ve swatted a few myself.
I could use some brain right now

Don't let those fruit flies near my Apple iPad
Ever nearly sat on a fly n had it fly up to you fly about your face like haway man then do one shortly after? Happens all the time.
You said "relatively complex behavior" juxtaposed to an image of fruit flies mating. Is mating really that complex? I mean neurologically speaking
So, can we re-map all their brains to return to their hereditary point of origination now?
That is really amazing.
They shpuld have used my ex's brain instead. Its a little smaller than the fruit fly..
How long before they program a deep neural network with that, and control an actual robot fly?
So basically these flies have a 6502 CPU and humans have an i9-9900k CPU as brains. Reverse engineering the 6502 is just the start. Imagine what we'll be able to do with the human brain in 40 years.

*sigh* They told me this would remain private.
I wanted to send this to someone, but how can I explain the fruit fly mating image over and over. 💀
