- Since the new Affinity Designer for iPad V2 came out I've gotten a lot of questions about how different the new app is and whether or not it's time to switch. In this video I cover all the basics so you can jump right into the new version when you're ready!

Thanks for such as useful video. It was so hard to find this info. I am still struggeling wit file management: how to get files in from the internet, like svg files. How to get files out to another (windows) computer. Looking forward to other affinities if you are goinng to make them.
I would use a cloud storage like Dropbox or Drive for this! Glad to hear you enjoyed the video.
Hi I just got a iPad this helps me a lot so far I’m used to using the serif X4 as I’ve found out you can do it now on these pads any suggestions on what I should do when I get started with this affinity to me alot of this is overwhelming
I should have also mentioned I have been using a Wacom tablet on my desktop/laptop I’m trying to figure out how to use this I do a lot of free hand & filing in
Could you tell me what the shape builder is? It’s the 4th icon from the bottom on the left hand side.
Did you know that you can also bring up the quick menu by doing a three finger downward swipe? It's even quicker than the press and hold option. 🙂

Thank you so much Liz! I have 2 questions. 1) If I download this new app, will it get rid of all of my documents in the old version of the app? Do I need to save them as cloud files first before I download the new app? 2) In the old app I would try to make patterns in inches. . . but it wouldn't repeat correctly. For some reason I was only able to get perfect repeats without any snaggles or mistakes if I worked in pixels. Have you noticed if patterns repeat correctly in inches with the new version of the app? I am excited to try it out and see. I was just curious if you have already tried working in inches. Thank you so much! Your classes and tutorials are always so clear and amazing!
Hi Margaret! Yes you are right that you need to save all your old files to cloud storage if you want them available in the new app. I only transferred over the new stuff that I'm currently working on though! In terms of inches vs. pixels, I haven't tested it but personally I always work in pixels because I work with so many international clients who don't use inches as a measurement. So working with pixels tends to be more universal in my opinion!

It’s a shame they didn’t just upgrade the current version for a small fee
What bothers me is that part of their marketing strategy was "buy once, no monthly fees", but now are coming out with "buy another app because we will not support the old one". Still, much more affordable than AI but, what if instead of updating, they start launching a completely different app every so often????
Well if you want them to develope new tools and features I think it’s fair for the users to pay for it. How big the update should be is of course debatable. But if it is every 3-4 years and always comes discounted first I think it’s still a really good deal.
Sorry to ask so many questions! But I'm still a bit confused. If I download the new app, will the old app still be on my ipad with all of my old documents? Will I still be able to access my old documents or will they get deleted?
Yes, the old version of Affinity will still be on your iPad with all of your documents. The new Affinity is a separate app.

Do you know how to move assets from old version to new?
I was surprised there wasn't an automatic moving option.
You can export asset categories to cloud storage, then open them in the new app!
Do you have to buy it again if you've already purchased the first version? Or is it like an update? The only reason I bought the first version is because of your skillshare class.
You do have to buy it again for Version 2. Many people are content with continuing to use V1, though!
I think we're being duped. We're paying full price for an update?! This isn't a different app, it's the same app with updates and improvements. No one wants to talk about the white elephant in the room?
hallo, we are supposed to pay for adobe in monthly basis. please don't be so fretful for small little money. To change the UI to support their next updates in the future already took works. and they need cash flow for that. After all they leave you with the option to update or not. There are more apps that emptying our pocket which doesn't bring much benefit for our business and career.

Yes, you keep your previous version. It's basically like two different apps on your device.
