Canford Cliffs is rightly ranked as one of the greatest milers of the modern era, It just makes Frankels performance that extra bit more special. Frankel is a wonderful horse and I can't wait for the rematch at Champions day on the 15th of October. Frankel - Equine Superstar!
@ASupremeOwl. I know Juddmonte's Facebook page was calling Frankel the greatest miler since Brigadier Gerard. That's a huge compliment. Prince Khalid Abdullah also said that he thought Frankel is even better than Dancing Brave was. That's another huge compliment!!
Anyone who's followed Canford Cliffs career knows he was a turf miler at the highest possible level. He came into that 2011 Sussex Stakes having won 5 straight G1 stakes at a mile. The Irish 2000 Guineas, St James's Palace Stakes, Sussex Stakes(2010), Lockinge Stakes, and Queen Anne Stakes. He was made to look ordinary by Frankel in that race. I know there's ? marks surrounding if Canford Cliffs was at his best in that race? But even at his dead level best, Frankel beats him by 3 lengths, easy.
For those of you still not convinced about Frankel and remember now this is the horse Sir Henry Cecil(42 years training horses) said about him. Not only is he the best horse he has ever trained but he is the best horse he has ever seen. watch?v=0AGN1mUJMT4&feature=relmfu
I know frankels connections didn't think he was that good because they rejected going to france to prove himself like sea the stars, because they didn't think he'd stay.Champion uk 3yo yeah probably but the world unlikely
Interesting insight. I have never seen Nijinsky personally. He is just a legend in my country, New Zealand. We heard a lot about Sir Ivor and Troy also. If you think Frankel is that good, maybe I had better revise my opinion. :)
I just try to evaluate things in the correct perspective. Sometimes we get carried away by present day champions. The same can happen about historical champions who can also be overrated. I just hope that they will take some risks with Frankel, like maybe entering him in the Breeders Cup Classic. They tried to do this with So You Think. It didn't quite pay off, but at least we knew how good or not he was.
SugarTomAppleRoger 5 years too late but Cecil INSISTED Frankel would won't be risked in anyway nor would he give into the demands of the public and media, he would do what was right for the horse, and he did
You don't risk a horse like him who's a really headstrong charater & take him on a plane over to America which is why he did'nt even leave England, a shame but the right thing to do for the horse's sake. Look any horse in the world could've came to England & took him on but NO trainer with their best horse came because they knew their horse had ZERO chance of beating Frankle. I'm not trying to big him up saying he the best EVER because i don't believe Frankel was the greatest although he is rated the best.
@GBeret83 Yeah good one. Canford Cliffs was off the bridle 5 furlongs out that as never happened in his career but then again hes never raced a horse like Frankel. The amount of ground he covers in just one stride is too much for any horse he as met yet. Ridden more like he was in the Sussex there is no reason why Frankel cannot go unbeaten throughout his racing career. Hes up there with the best I've ever seen. Dancing Brave, Lammtarra, Sea The Stars three that just spring to mind. Magic
Probably why they retired frankel because obviously uk horses are backyard champions but useless when older and they didn't want to ruin his perfect record
I agree, and I was even foolish enough myself to think if Frankel was ever going to get his comeuppance, it would be from Canford Cliffs at Goodwood that day. I know many people have questioned whether or not Canford Cliffs was at his dead level best in the Sussex Stakes that day? It scarcely matters if he was or wasn't? At his absolute dead level best, Frankel beats him by at least 3 lengths, if not more that day, IMO.
Henry cecil said afterwards he taught frankel was an absolute certainty the day he blew canford cliffs away l was going to have fifteen hundred to win eight hundred that day chickened out of it thats raceing 😊
OK. Maybe I got carried away. We should step back a bit. In the last 100 or so horses, there are very few horses that stand the test of time. I doubt that Frankel will be remembered in 100 years time, like the greats Eclipse and Dan Patch, for example. Red Rum will, but is Frankel really as memorable as a Red Rum or a Phar Lap for that matter? As a horse racing purist, I would put Nijinsky up there, but few outside the racing industry would have heard of him. Frankel needs to win more.
just a point about Hughes & Hannons claims that CC was the best they had ridden/trained ok fair point but before CC what was Hughsies best ride? i can only think of youzmain 3rd in 3 arcs who was ok but no Dancing Brave, Hannons best horse? maybe Tirol or his other 2000 guineas winner (cant quite remember its name), decent horses but not superstars, i think this was the 1st really good horse they were involved with and they got carried away
So frankel only beat average horses then, because everyone says this was his hardest opposition he raced,i always thought frankel was overrated and you've made me right
Hughsie, shut up ! Your horse got stuffed and let that be the end of it. You got hammered by an equine freak in Frankel, whom Sir Henry Cecil rates as the best horse ever. Frankel is now right up there with Brigadier Gerard and on that performance today would most probably have won.
he couldnt carry the weight and even if they were given the same weight frankel would still of destroyed him, also richard hannons horses arent running well at the minute that crown dependency ran like a bag of shit today
rightfully so - if he bolts like usual, (and dies a death, clinging on in the last furlong as he was last time), C/C will catch him, too much fuss has been made of him, put him against his elders and he'll get found out - if C/C can edge Goldi, he'll damn sure beat Frankel !

the freak ran its best race...good job i lumped on Opinion Poll today...thanks Frankie

too right i was, taken off his hooves he was, just too good, but C/C wasnt up to much, can only hope he gives him a race next time !
if you think about it first time you see canford cliffs fall apart in last furlong against frankel

@john131349 2nd in 3 arcs*
choking on those words now CC ANIAHILATED
@tommy444able, Admitted, whole heatedly, no doubt, incredible!! LOL.
Canfords cliffs retired after this race because he injured himself during the running,so much for claiming frankel is the worlds best
@@StephenSmall-sf5um facts
Um, Frankel is the best horse in my lifetime. Canford Cliffs is average, one of many.
So frankel only beat average horses then, because everyone says this was his hardest opposition he raced,i always thought frankel was overrated and you've made me right

horse got injured before race cracked knee
Frankel retired too soon.
he couldnt carry the weight and even if they were given the same weight frankel would still of destroyed him, also richard hannons horses arent running well at the minute that crown dependency ran like a bag of shit today
I think hel run a normal race haha
im putting my house on canford cliffs...shh, dont tell my wife- we might be living in a box next week
If he's good enough he'll beat frankel🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
