- quick review regarding a snapper riding lawn mower, these are generally decent machines if you take care of them

The best and simplest riding mower ever made! Mine is 23 years old and never any issue I couldn't fix myself like drive discs, blades, or blade bars.
I have this exact model. I got rid of ALL the safety switches and the key swich. ZERO problems since.
I replaced only the rubber and the insides the other old pieces were still good to keep using
I have an identical mower, and I truly appreciated the clear images and video.

I'd leave out the customer criticism.
On these mowers, do NOT start out in any gear higher than first. They are in fact “shift on the go “ and have been since the ‘60’s. Start in 1st then once moving move the lever to higher gear. They are not even gears, it simply moves that rubber “disk” back and forth along the pressure plate, so always start slow or the rubber disk will burn away in no time. I agree on normal mowers do not shift unless you press the clutch in. Just a friendly correction!

They are gears i took my friends apart and fixed his last year the gear box or transmission box moves along the back axle any time you shift that rubber piece its the drive disc but you do have a ton of gears in that box i tuned up his last year regreased every nipple and put in new gear oil
Put on a new right rubber boot and fresh grease that drive disc needs a cover over the bottom of it what snapper should have done but didn't it being that close to the ground will get damaged there's no protection covering it underneath the mower you can run over a stick or rocks a mole hill or anything but its not covered and is how they get damaged

Hi Chris just looked at your video on older snapper Rider mower I have the same mower but with a 10 hsp power built engine just had a New transmission put in was running fine until yesterday went to start turns over no spark plug or coil what would you say is the fix.?.

No it ain't old it all a old guy gave me his old 80ies model one and that was alot bigger than these new ones alot heavier to push around to i got the engine running again and gave it to a other mower friend then they sold it and made them 4 hundred off it
It had a nice splash around oil engine there was no oil filter i can't remember the engines hp but it was still good chain driven

Thanks for video. Had the carburetor replaced and now won't idle low. All full speed ahead. Oil thin so worried gas still leaking into the engine oil. Oh bother...
Put your throttle on low take your finger and push the black piece forward on the new nikki carburetor i had a slight problem your having with the new carburetor it smoothed out and ran normal after i done that i believe its that little sponge piece on the carburetor were the links hookup at causing it to not move correctly as it should once you do that it should run normal.
Then if its running to high still you might need to set your governor that was a bitch doing when i done mine hard nothing sticking out to grab to hold the damn thing in place while setting it
I don't see how if you just replaced the carburetor they usually come with a new bowl solenoid that plunges up soon as you shut the mower off to block the gas from keep coming in my new carburetor last month works great.
Did you unplug the spark plug wire then drain the oil out while turning the key a few times using a shopvac to suck out all the gasy oil and did you do a second oil change to make sure you got all the gasy oil out did you do that hows it running now

How much does the friction disk and other parts cost ??? Do you have to replace the flat washers and paper washer also ??? How much side play is normal on the disk ???? Thanks fella.

My snapper does go into engage to cut grass
I picked up this tractor yesterday. I have a question about the black wire that is supposed to be connected to the coil. Do they all hook up to the same ground on that throttle plate? On other engines I believe that the cable is supposed to click into a holding clip and not connected to a blade connector.
I don't think it matters long as its grounding
I can't find my model number on mine it's a 12 go 5 speed 30" deck. I'm trying to see the part number for this clutch disc so I can order it. Also I'm having problems with the mower not charging battery while running
Oh well those are easy fixes and most mowers have 2 model numbers one on the body or on the transmission sometimes and one on the valve cover if no over head valve's then stamped on the metal near the engine sometimes stamped on the engine most times hard to see can be small and covered up by dust and dirt or grease
Can you do a video of how the solonoid and wiring goes from there to the hole engine? I have problems with one I recently purchased from someone but I think they misplaced wire's. Thanks!

I just got this exact machine used, for free. It starts and runs, but after a few seconds, a gas/oil mixture spits out of a round hole in the intake manifold, vertically, inside of the air cleaner. Is this the PCV system/reed valve I read about that might be shot? Unknown mileage/hours on the old girl. I just know that it pull starts damn near every time and everything works except the electric start. I'd like to fix it and use it before giving up on it. Already checked the carb about 5 times and everything seems okay. Jets never got clogged, it just gets excited and spits up, almost a front fire, but with liquid instead of combustion.

What do the gears do?
I need a new carb for a 2006 model. Very hard to start. 20+pulls to start.
I had that issue too. My solution was to remove a screw holding the air cleaner to the engine and spraying in some starter fluid. Kind of a pain but it usually starts with one pull.

A good used mower price long as it all functions how it should 3 to 4 hundred dollars.
I was wondering how much i could get off my 1987 craftsmen hydro 44 automatic 16 hp twin cylinder briggs somethings messed up on the electrical clutch but the clutch does work i have the original deck and redone the deck not to new conditions but so it'll function deck belts on the deck i took the deck off the mower and i use the mower for pulling the wagon around or for pulling other mowers it works good I've not even repainted any metal shrouds yet

You have a bad safety switch button someplace and that is why i take all those off of every mower i have

Now you need to wd40 all the wire connections after wire brush them off or clean them off then oil and make sure other cable connections are tight

You know what size by taking out the old one do the gap to 0.030
What do you do if the fuel filter is leaking?
Put a new one on
Does the oil have to be drained to stand the mower up for storage?

i put gas and a new battery and changed my oil but cant seem to get mine started was needing some advise im out of ideas

The engines not garbage but i hate cutting grass with those cheap snappers the seat can't slide back so i sit crammed up doing my friends grass with that same mower i don't like how it tilts over dips and bumps or holes in the yard the steering wheel sucks i don't like thats a bad made model no protection under over the drive disc hard to get to the battery seat can't simply lift up as all my tractor mowers seats do theres no hood to protect the engine for if you do have to park it outside and you done have a tarp to cover it up atleast the hood would protect it some but that model doesn't have a hood the mower doesn't turn good because more weight in the back than in the front
