This video features Mort Shuman singing Taxicab, as featured in the 1975 movie, 'Jacques Brel Is Alive And Well And Living In Paris', which took it's name from the off-broadway stage show, which opened in 1968 and ran for more than four years, with at least 2 of the original cast of 4 members of the stage show, appearing in the movie, including Mort Shuman. Nowadays, the movie has become a cult classsic, as well as occasional revivals of the stage show being performed here and there.
Most of the music and French lyrics for the stage show and the subsequent movie were written by Jacques Brel and the English translations were contributed by Mort Shuman and few others.
Mort Shuman also wrote many songs which were recorded by artists such as Elvis Presley, Dion, The Drifters and numerous others and was responsible for such hits as 'This Magic Moment', Viva Las Vegas', Teenager In Love, 'Save The Last Dance For Me' and many others.
Many serious critics of art and music would probably agree, the Jacques Brel was arguably the best songwriter of the 20th century, who performed with such incredible emotion, as can be clearly seen in the stunning black and white recording of his classic love song 'Ne Me Quitte Pas' (Don't leave Me), among many others.
With that amazing performance of 'Ne Me Quitte Pas', it is very easy to believe that he was actually singing that song to a particular person during the performance of that song, because every single word is completely believable and it is definitely worth watching, even if you don't understand French, as it is completely spellbinding!
There are versions of that performance available online with English subtitles and I would reccommend viewing it at some point, as it is a truly magnificent song, with an amazing performance to match the brilliance of the lyrics.

Thank you for posting. This is my favourite song from the lot on the DVD. When did you buy the DVD and from where? I bought mine in Canada a few years ago but yours seems to include details which are missing from mine - e.g. it does not show the other tenants of the house. Also it has no subtitles option. I shall, therefore, have to buy this version.
