Woah! This was so eye opening, sarah omg. I’ve read so many novels and didn’t realize they were gothic. That’s so cool! Recently, Heart’s Blood by Juliet Marillier comes to mind. 20/10 recommend
Curiously, I have and read all three. You may be aware of seven others from that period called “The Northanger Abbey Horrid Novels”. I will be reading these next year.
It's totally worth the read! There's a French movie with Vincent Cassel that apparently loosely follows one of the storylines from the book, but I've never watched it.
Thanks for this! I think Castle of Ontronto is mentioned in Northanger Abbey, which I've recently. It's piqued my interest for classic gothic novels. I've just picked up The Monk from my library. ☺️
There are definitely some heavy topics! I’ve listed them here if you need them: -violence -manipulation and abuse -sexual assault and r*pe -pregnancy -death -murder -illness and poisoning I think those are all of them; some are only mentioned, while some play a key part in the story, the first three especially. I hope this is helpful!
