My Dad bought me this exact bike back in June 1972! Mine was Red. I rode that bike everywhere. I went through 3 pairs of tires and a exhaust system on the bike. My Dad bought it for $400.00 cash. This is the best Birthday Present I ever recieved! Sp cool!!!
Like a few of the comment have said ;That was my first manual clutch moter cycle .I rode that bike all over the place intil it needed rings , and when I was 14 I did rings my self ,my dad helped with the valve timing and that bike lasted along time .Now I'm 60 and I've a real nice 1974 xl 70 and a 1974 xl 350 flat tracker! Then I went modern , and bought a brand new 2012 XR 650 L and last bought a 2000 XR 70 R U KNOW Y XR'S ,XL'S ,and SL'S ,RULE!!!!!!! THANX from NOR-CAL!!!!!
Yep, my first bike in’73 I was12. The good school grades that got it went south 😬. Thankfully I still got to keep my bike. Man I loved that thing. First night I took the lights off. Bought some Preston Petty fenders. Rode that thing non stop. Amazing indestructible machine. 🍺
I had traded a bb gun for a sl70 back in 1994 when I was 11 and it was a the greatest bike ever!!! Still to this day I want 1 just like this 1. I could only wish I could afford this bike. Great find guy.
That was my bike exactly. My helmet was the same as he is wearing, except I had an orange duck bill on it. My grandparents bought it for me in Clevland Tn., at the Honda shop. I believe it was $350.00 used. I was there when we first saw it. I was mesmerized. I rode it for years. My brother had a yellow one. What a great bike.
DUDE! THAT'S MY FIRST BIKE EVER ! This vidio brought back many awesome memories of my Honda SL 70 ! same color also! I spent countless hours on the saddle of that bike ! If I wasn't eating, sleeping ,or in school ,I was on that bike ! Seeing this vidio blew my mind! what a great little bike ! I'm a permanently disabled Vietnam veteran, and I live on $974 a month ,so I doubt that I could afford your price, but thank you so much for bringing back the best times of my childhood ! I will never forget that beautful blue dream maker !wow! I didn't know I still had any tears left to give, but seeing that wonderful little bike again ,brought tears to my eyes! Thanks bro! I really needed to see that bike again! YOU ROCK !
What really suprises me is I also wore a captain america helmet like the one you had on in the vidio, but I had a tinted face shield on mine, seeing you on my first bike ,with my helmet on, it was like a window into my teenage years! I'll never stop riding! It is ,and has been my passion! I hope to visit your museum soon, you have a lot of the bikes I have owned there, and it is WONDERFUL to see them again! Ride on bro!
My first bike too, rode it to elementary school at the campus of Salem University. I built a track next to my house at the former Marblehead Water Dept's pump house where my Grandfather worked in 1917.
The exact bike and color that we used to hotwire in Cleveland Heights in 1973-1977. Just pull the plastic harness apart under the tank. Pissed off my friends older brother something fierce. Dog meat for a GT80 but whatevs still a great little bike that and the XR75 too.
Had a red one back in the mid 70's. Beat the ever living snot out of it. Man how I loved riding that thing. So much so, I still have the title to it. Wished I still had the bike.
Had the same model and color in the late 70s that was given to us by our uncle. He had outgrown it and it was still like new. The downside was that me and my brother and sister had to share it and ended up arguing who got to ride it until one day it wouldnt start after probably hundreds of attempts. Unknowingly to us our Dad had taken the spark plug out of it because we were fighting over who's turn it was to ride. He did put it back in when he got home from work though. Have some great memories from the times it was my day to ride. Unfortunately I thought I was Evel Knievel and was being careless and over the handlebars me and my friend went. He still has the scar on his side over 40 yrs later.
I had a yellow 71 , Had a blast on it . Thought i was Roger Decoster when out trail riding. Also got pulled over by the law and got a ticket riding it , Judge gave me a 500 word AS on motor bike saftey.I was 11. That judge also had a candy store ! LOL! Not shitting You!

Had one of them cool SL70's as a pitbike back in the day. I use to to go all over the place with my good friend on the back hitting jumps and raising hell. That bike was a blast.
DUDE ! THAT WAS MY FIRST BIKE WHEN I WAS 7. IM 50 NOW. IT WAS A FLEA MARKET BASKET CASE. MY DAD GAVE IN TO MY WHINING THAT I HAD TO HAVE IT. I DIDN'T KNOW DIDDLE AD S 7 YR OLD, BUT MY DAD SHOWED ME HOW TO FIX CLEAN AND PUT TOGETHER THE WHOLE THING . IT WAS THE POINT WHEN I GOT THE BUG. IM ON BIKE 14 NOW AND STILL HAVE TWO. ONE IS A 1997 MARAUDER THAT I BOUGHT NEW. IVE DONE A FEW THINGS TO IT. I MADE A BELT DRIVE FOR IT ( not a kit. all custom fabrication. ) bars , controls , seat , front wheel , brakes. I AM NOW ACQUIRING A 2002 DUCE . NEEDS SOME TLC BUT ONE OWNER . IT SAT FOR 9 YEARS AFTER OWNER DIED. STILL HAS FUEL IN IT. IM DOING A COMPREHENSIVE TEAR DOWN BEFORE I EVEN BUY A BATTERY FOR IT. PULLING CAM COVER , FUEL TANK , FUEL PUMP AND LINES AND FILTER. 3 HOLE OIL CHANGE , PLUGS AND BRAKE FLUID. OIL THE CILYNDERS WITH CRANKE CASE OIL AND TURN BY HAND WITH WRENCH WHILE PLUGS ARE OUT. THEN VOLTAGE. WE'LL SEE HOW IT TURNS OUT .THE MAN TOOK EXELENT CARE OF IT BEFORE HE PASSED AND IT HAS VERY NICE EXTRAS , METZLER TIRES AND CHROME EVERYTHING. ILL NEED TO REPLACE TIRES THOUGH .JUST DONT TRUST OLD RUBBER. ILL DOCUMENT IT ALL. LOVE YOUR SHOP AND YOU GUYS DO A FANTASTIC JOB ON RESTORES AND JUST MAKING THINGS RIDEABLE. THIS LITTLE HONDA 70 BRINGS BACK MEMORIES ! GOOD ONES!
Ken, you never fail to amaze me with these lovely old bikes. Regarding the speedo, when looking at another video of a 1971 model, it had a single speedometer with Neutral, High Beam and Turn Signal warning lights in the upper dial face. Greetings from UK.
When the XL came out they made the SL look dated. But I’d love to have one now. My cousin had one back in 75 or 76. Good times. When I see this , the XLCR Harley and an IT490 it reminds me of him. He passed a few years back now so it’s cool to see memories like these and remind me of when we’d ride together
I had a red one when I was a kid. looking at this video makes me miss it. mine got stolen when I was around 20. its amazing how nice it sounds with the stock pipe. nowadays stock Honda's sound like crap. ( curious what it ended up selling for ? )
@@KaplanCycles Ok thanks. I used to have a blue SL 150 just like the 70 you have. Everyone I rode with had 2 strokes and I was slugging around this heavy beast in the dirt but it was fun!!
My uncle bought a new one like that. Seven relative kids rode it daily to which it eventually turned into a neighborhood kids bike. Everyone locally rode the bike, hard. Out of guilt, my uncle finally installed new piston rings, laughing at how easy it was. After years of abuse, he sold it for $100 to four brothers. After 2-3 years, they sold the bike for $150. Seems like it only cost $479 new? What a bargain. Memories!

I got a XL 70 for Christmas in 1977. I rode the wheels off that bike.! Boy, this one sure brings back fond memories.
I received a 1984 CR60R in the living room, Christmas morning 1998. That was a moment as clear as 9/11. Great memory.
My dad bought me a yellow SL70 for Christmas in 1972. I still have it and, infact, I rode it today!
