I have this roll tucked away in my 600+ roll collection and I do know it's Frank Milne. The recommended tempo is twice as fast as this. I have been slowing down my tempos so they sound more pleasing like this one. I also have it on Melodee (Green box) and soon the Frank Banta version on Play-Rite.
Lord above that piano has a beautiful tone. So mellow, not to mention the piano itself is lovely and clearly well made. This song sounds amazing played through that piano. A perfect match. What I would give to play that piano 😭 (sorry for letting my inner piano nerd creep out there haha)
Interesting how it had a very guttural sound, much like the Recordo upright this guy had. However the fact that the treble hammers seem to be quite a bit harder is a mystery to me. I doubt anyone would unevenly voice a piano like that.
QRS 7953 IT HAD TO BE YOU (FoxTrot), issued 7/44 [Gus Kahn-Isham Jones] played by Frank Milne - per Billings QRS Rollography. And quite obviously Milne style-wise
This is a different arrangement, I have the same piece played by Frank Banta. I have a George Steck 5' 8" Duo Art and a Stroud Upright with a Duo Art. The Stroud was a great piano, well built, more wood in the fall board than today's grands!
Oh man that's so awesome! I have a Francis Bacon player piano (just a standard, nothing special) that has an awesome tone, I have videos on my channel!
I think it could be played for the most part, I think there might be some overdubbing on certain notes or something but I dont know too much about Piano rolls to be sure!
Most 88 note player rolls were "arranged". But even "Hand played" rolls sometimes were augmented to brighten them and improve the performance. Most player rolls were designed to exploit the unique qualities of the instrument. Naturally sounding rolls were relegated to the "Reproducing pianos".
I know this is a QRS roll, as it is identified elsewhere on UTube, but the player is a mystery. You would know much better than I who the "suspects" are but it is clearly not Cook. Kortlander maybe?
Now, that's one talented piano!
Smart ass
Fantastic piano! Is it a reproducing piano and if not sure sounds like one!
Wonderful toned piano. Thank you for posting!!
I'd love to play this by myself but I don't have four hands. So I'll just have to watch the video and enjoy it that way instead. :)
This is playable by one person with only very minor changes actually.
Love the "Mellowness" of your piano instead of a tinny thin sound! Sounds a lot like my 5-2 Marshall-Wendall art case piano that I used to have.
Isn't the treble nice? It's so bright!
Magnífico instrumento y bella melodía de un tiempo de inolvidables canciones!!!!
The very best I've heard.
Frank Milne sure knew how to play. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent roll! Great arrangement.

Better than stuff today frsnk
Brillant! , well played.
Great music, Great roll. Music from the forty's, had a style of its own. The Stroud player piano, also did a good job on 7953. J. Golemba.
What a pretty baby grand and the rolls are above the keyboard. Once had one with mechanism under, so and so to repair and get full air pumping.

Beautiful arrangement, highly listenable, and danceable, too! Perfect tempo for slow Fox Trot!

This Is For Sure QRS Roll No. 7953 Played By Frank C Milne. I have Just Played My Copy To Make Sure. A Great Arrangement.
This roll is played by Frank Milne. I have the same roll that has the arranger credits on the box.
When your at the waiting screen in Ryan plays tag game
WONDERFUL - Many thanks for posting this tune!!!!
That is a beautiful pianola.
Not a pianola, just a player piano
loved the blue suit that you wear sir👌
love it
Majestic.
I found a year! According to an intact label on the box for this song, it was printed with a copyrighted date of 1924, not the 1940s.

Wish I had on of those....!!!
Pretty easy to get one in working condition actually

Terrific arrangement.

It's a beautiful rendition of the song.
Nice! Little Stroud sounds wonderful!
I have this roll and i love this tempo but I have to set the tempo to 50 and not 75 to get the same speed as in this video!

@DuoArtDanOz. Thankyou!
Is this piano arrangement manually playable? or is this only for player piano? loved this version really

Try it for yourself! Just transcribed it a short while ago. musescore.com/user/5057121/scores/6169317

@@kevinchan1598 You did mess just a few minor things up but that's a pretty good transcription!
This doesn't sound "mechanical" at all. Lovely!
Great sound. Is this a duplicating piano?
if that piano had a good couple of tunings it would sound absolutely magnificent!
It sounds pretty good to me, the Carolina Shout video is a bit more out of tune
Do you have the sheet music for this song, it sounds great, I love it 👍👍👍
go buy it at a music store
Who are you, a music store owner or what? Shut up. Why has everything to be for money if its over 70 years old?? Dumbass
Sure sissy

@@kevinchan1598 Thanks man you legend!!!
What a splendid player piano, the tune wasn't half bad either. Can you still buy one, second hand, or whatever?
You can likely get a player piano for free actually. Check Ebay or Craigslist! Rolls are found EVERYWHERE!
Mechanical Music
Im willing to learn how to play this version. Anyone has the sheet for this ? Thanks in advance
I do have a some kind of transcription. I wrote it when doing a arrangement for two guitars.
go to your local music store...stop begging!
How his local music store is going to help?
You BUY the sheet music you need, silly...that is what music stores are for!
Music stores sell either musical instruments or cds and such, they don't sell sheet music.
What's the sense of a piano roll?
Sense?
To play the player piano
My parents said this was "their song".
I think it's Frank Milne, but I'm not sure.
Frank Milne is obviously the arranger, he's the only one with those arpeggios!
All im thinkin about when listening to this is a tavern in the wild west
