This is the short version. I highly recommend this album it will blow you away!

I've drummed for many years and this is the best drummer relationship to melody I've seen. The drums are tuned in exactly to the shamisen. Every note the taiko drummer performs is has meaning. Most drum solos are just noise to me but this is a melodic drummer. Thank You Thank you Thank You for posting!!!!

As an American, this type of music seems to speak to me. Almost like every song is a story from an aging warrior who is describing his feats and accomplishments on the battlefield before he passes away. It ignites something in my soul, a “flame of humanity”, if you will. I have very much been interested in the teachings of Bushidō and Miyamoto Musashi since I was a child, and not in a weeaboo way either. This music is passionate and inspires one’s sense of dignity and pride to rise to the surface

It is funny how so many people ask everday where I got my shamisen from.. I just tell them the truth.. You can only get one from japan or okinawa. Shmisen or shamsen which originated in China, brought to Okinawa and then from there main land japan. but just like the taiko, shamisen, koto biwa are all south east asia in origin. So all there history and culture and legends are performed with these instruments like any folk music

The large tuning pegs are for leverage. They are friction pegs and turned by grabbing the peg with your whole fist, so they have to be as big as your hand.
You wouldn't be able to turn a friction peg with just two fingers like you can a geared peg.
