I get excited each and every time I watch this. Even I can feel the rapid blow flow and adrenaline to seeing such an amazing performance, especially in a battle between two mesmerizing and powerful instruments: The Koto and Shamisen. Cheers to the most beautifully powerful country and culture in the world 🇯🇵
I purchased this album after viewing this video. I bought it of of amazon. Paid $40 after import fees and shipping. The album is called "Tsugaru Fusion" by Shinichi Kinoshita. This song "Raikou" is 12 minutes and some change long on the album. This is the short version. I highly recommend this album it will blow you away!
I've drummed for many years and this is the best drummer relationship to melody I've seen. The drums are tuned in exactly to the shamisen. Every note the taiko drummer performs is has meaning. Most drum solos are just noise to me but this is a melodic drummer. Thank You Thank you Thank You for posting!!!!
c'mon, people! Don't you know the difference between a duel and a duet? Gosh, these guys are playing together! (and it sounds REAAAAAAAAAAALLY cool!!) Love it! Thanks for posting it!
As an American, this type of music seems to speak to me. Almost like every song is a story from an aging warrior who is describing his feats and accomplishments on the battlefield before he passes away. It ignites something in my soul, a “flame of humanity”, if you will. I have very much been interested in the teachings of Bushidō and Miyamoto Musashi since I was a child, and not in a weeaboo way either. This music is passionate and inspires one’s sense of dignity and pride to rise to the surface
Aah thank you very much! :D Yoshida Brothers was exactly what I was looking for, actually ^^ (similarity between their music and the tracks 'Bunta' and 'Jiraiya's theme' from Naruto is great :D)
Search for a drummer's name on Apple Music and you'll find a couple of their collab albums: Shuichi Hidano Shamisen player name is spelled on Apple Music as Shin'ichi Kinoshita
Shamisen (3 strings) is Shin-ichi Kinoshita (木下伸市)(木乃下真市) Wa-daiko (taiko) is Hiroshi Motofuji (茂戸藤浩司) * Name of the song is " Thunder Lights " (rai koh ) (雷光)
He plays so many notes very smoothly, some people would feel restricted with only 3 strings as opposed to a western style guitar with 6 to 12 strings, but this guy is musical genius. Shalom-
It is funny how so many people ask everday where I got my shamisen from.. I just tell them the truth.. You can only get one from japan or okinawa. Shmisen or shamsen which originated in China, brought to Okinawa and then from there main land japan. but just like the taiko, shamisen, koto biwa are all south east asia in origin. So all there history and culture and legends are performed with these instruments like any folk music
¡ Mis mejores aplausos ! Escuchar dos instrumentos tradicionales, respetando sus sonidos particulares y combinándolos con ritmos rápidos más modernos que la tradición, pero con respeto. ¡ Qué hermosa música !
The large tuning pegs are for leverage. They are friction pegs and turned by grabbing the peg with your whole fist, so they have to be as big as your hand. You wouldn't be able to turn a friction peg with just two fingers like you can a geared peg.
The drummer is defo Hiroshi Motofuji. I met him on two occasions in London at the Royal Academy of Music where he was teaching for the AMC Summer School! His peformance in August 2006 at the RAM was taiko with Chinese erhu (two-stringed fiddle, played by Hu Bin) which was amazing!
So cool. Great Tsugaru flavor. I did not know them but shamisen player seems to be also composer of this piece. His name reads Shinichi Kinoshita and the drummer, Hiroshi Motofuji. Thank you for sharing. The title reads "Raikou (Lightning)".
I think the taiko drummer is Hiroshi Motofuji-san. His style is so obvious, I saw his performance in Singapore last year with his taiko group (Motofuji's), very interesting and entertaining. He's the one who play taiko drum in ost. Ghost in the Shell (collaboration with Kenji Kawai). Yes, the shamisen player is Shinichi Kinoshita-san, the legendary. Thx for uploading their "battle". Very nice performance, as nice as the one I see "battle" between Koto and Taiko.

I saw this video also 14 years ago in college. Now I have my own Shamisen, traveled to Japan, and still never get tired of this sound.
46 turned their laptop upsidedown to like this again
+Daniel watts the number changes. So it may have gone from 46 to 56 and now it is 59.
I was screaming throughout this performance because of all the passion they had put into creating this astonishing piece

this doesn't seem like a 'VS." to me, they are accompanying each other not dueling.
Taiko x Shamisen. In Japanese, against and with, together and opposite use the same word.
@@SaurianSavior you've got a point
Vs always doesn't mean you have grudge or dueling. It can mean contrast of 2 melodies.
you can take this as an comparison of instruments Taiko vs Shamisen on the same music
I've never heard anything more in sync! Amazing!

Only traditional music instrument can be found as an ultimate tool for any expression. This masterpiece is once of a kind
Yeah. It's basically the Asian banjo
@@ItsRyan265 the banjo really isn’t that important in western music. The acoustic guitar is a closer comparison
Such a treasure I found!
I remember watching this nonstop when I was 3. Super nostalgic
love the way both of them headbang towards the end. perfect synchronisation!!! really love this video.
c'mon, people! Don't you know the difference between a duel and a duet? Gosh, these guys are playing together! (and it sounds REAAAAAAAAAAALLY cool!!)

Very good! It's an amazing drive. These guys are pretty superb!
They sync so well! Love it!
The best timing I have come across thus far ...
It is soooo good. As a Japanese, I think we should let other countries know about this great instrument of ours!
As an Indian I already know . Waggaki music is love ❤

SO DAMN GOOD!!!! so natural and simple sounds and yet so wonderful music
Bueno de hecho mis dos tres instrumentos musicales preferidos son el shamisen, el didgeridoo y la viola da gamba
well. that was something new. i've heard OF a shamisen, but have never actually heard or seen one played before. thank you.
This invokes the feeling of a high-tempo horse chase, possibly through the woods at night with a full moon.
Brilliant! I love the sound of this kind of music so much!

the shamisen player is called Shinichi Kinoshita.
He plays it so nice.
:)
I love this. it makes me feel relaxed but energized at the same time. Im glad I live in Japan.
Beautiful music. Thank you Mr.Kinoshita and Mr.Motofuji.
thanks for sharing. very contemporany. beautiful bright of the shamisen over the deep darknes of the taiko drums.
respect!

that's what I thought... they are so syncronised that actually they are not fighting or something similar...
this is awesome! subarashii!

So desu ne! It's usually that fact in regards to that, and that they're still moving forward as to improving life everywhere.

I really enjoy this, in my country there are many concerts with Taiko and Shamisen (Tanabata Matsuri), great!!!
WOW!
This is beautiful, lovely ^_^
Mind blown.
the talented man who play shamisen is called: Shinichi kinoshita(木下伸市) .
u can google & find out more about him.
or his site: kinoshitashinichi
I LOVE the sound of the Shamisen. I wish I could obtain one, they're SO expensive and almost a rarity nowadays.
excellent
I love this instrument. It's like the Japanese banjo
Well it kinda is. They both have drum acoustics and have same neck length

AWESOME !!!!!!
Did some research about the artists who are playing this song:
on Shamisen: Shinichi Kinoshita
on Taiko: Hiroshi Motofuji
what a wonderful rhythm...wow
mind blowing yo
Mr Kinoshita came to Panama in august 2002. I talked with him, good person and good musician.
This is so cool, I love the song.

You know that Family Guy Episode where Peter wishes for theme music whenever he's walking around?? This is what I'd pick :)
I'm not sure some didn't.
Damn good evil demon fighting music. Pretty sure I am a real samurai as long as I hear this :)
