  • Last week I was lucky enough to visit the Uebel Showroom with Uebel artist Eugene Mondie of the National Symphony Orchestra. While I was there he was kind enough to demo and talk about various instruments (including the Mopane Zenit, Romanza and Advantage) in the Uebel clarinet lineup! Which one did you like the best? Let us know!

    Sounds like the mopane is less resistant than the grenadilla wood, their beginner model doesn’t sound inferior at all! Great video!

      Ya, their entry level pro model “Advantage” is a really excellent value instrument for the price. I’ve tried it, it’s definitely impressive and the fact that it’s Mr. Mondie’s choice for a grenadilla clarinet really speaks volumes. Thanks for watching Junnan!

    I think the differences in all these are subtle but I like the sound of the Rosewood clarinet the best

    I'm really interested in Uebel's "Emperior" model bass clarinet in Mopane, but I haven't found any recordings of it.

    But what when Eugen plays the German system clarinet, Uebel started out with the German model

    They sounded too thin and not inviting to blend well when need be. But the first one was the best. Equivalent to a Buffet R-13 perhaps ?

    • @ParkHouseCreations
      @ParkHouseCreations  3 года назад +5

      I think the biggest issue with putting out any recording, is there is no standard quality of sound present across all audio listening devices. I of course had the benefit of being there and so I know no part of his sound is thin and would have no problem blending. I am also fortunate to have good speakers and headphones and through those I feel I can confirm what my ears originally heard, that no part of his sound comes across as thin. But if I listened through a different device (i.e. computer speakers, phone/tablet speakers, various earbuds) I know my perception could change dramatically. I would try listening to it again across some different devices and see if your perception changes! Also, I wouldn't say any of these instruments are a direct equivalent to a Buffet R-13, but it might make an interesting comparison in the future!

      Hey Shawn! Thanks for watching, I remember you had asked about the Uebels when we were recording a few weeks ago! Hopefully this gave you at least a slightly better idea of what they are like!

    Interesting. Do they make Austrian bore clarinets in Mopane?

    • @ParkHouseCreations
      @ParkHouseCreations  2 года назад +1

      I’m actually not sure! I think it’s only standard French or German instruments, but they might make an Austrian bore variant! It could be worth an email to the company to check!

      I mean the ones in this video

    • @ParkHouseCreations
      @ParkHouseCreations  3 года назад +4

      @@florincostea3834 Ah sure! The instruments are all very high quality. I think in general they are a little different than some of the more typical brands. If you expect them to play like instruments from Buffet, you will probably be disappointed. Uebel is a German company and even though these are Boehm instruments, I think some of the German ideas of sound are more present in these instruments. This can of course be changed/compensated with different mouthpieces/reeds/etc. but I think it's important to know where the sound of the instrument starts from. The two instruments I've personally tried the most are the "Advantage" and the "Mopane Zenit." I think the Advantage represents a really good value for the price. It is a professional instrument and it sounds and plays like it. The "Mopane Zenit" has very lovely sound. I think it comes across in the video here, especially if you have good speakers/headphones, but when you are playing the instrument I think it is much more obvious. I would describe the sound as being "dolce," very sweet sounding. I'm not going to lie, the placement of the Keywork on the instrument is different than I am used to and would take me a while to get accustomed to, but I think that's true for most clarinets when you switch brands! I hope this helps!
