I consider myself an old metal head but I absolutely love their pop-punk sound. That's a spectacular first song release for them. 10/10. Japanese women are killing it.

I agree with all of the above! 10/10 debut.

Yeah, this is a very promising start!
Btw, I think it's "Neki" after all, with the i stylised as an exclamation point. Source: their about info "バンドはじめました ネキって読みます" translates as "We've just started a band! Our name is Neki.", and while my Japanese wasn't up to that translation, it is up to knowing that ネキ is pronounced Neki. Actually, I don't think a Japanese word can ever end with a k sound.

You're right, the exclamation point is an upside down i.
I saw it in an interview.👍

They started by covering BandMaid songs, and worked into writing there own songs.

That bassist! If F Chopper Koga (Gacharic Spin) and Fami (Lovebites) had a daughter. Kanade (the bassist) auditioned for Lovebites (If you haven't yet, check them out) when she was just 15. Band has a ton of potential. The Japanese metal/rock bands are just doing it better these days.

Fun fact, she was one of the finalists when Lovebites was doing their bass auditions a couple years ago. She was only 15 at that time. She's 17 now.

Most Japanese bands will mix some English words in here and there, but yeah she is singing straight up Japanglish here going back and forth between singing in both languages mid sentence.

The bassist (mostly) and drummer (more recently) have been popping up on my Twitter feed for the last year or so, I think it's partly based on mutuals as they're both followed by Fami of Lovebites and Yuri from GS. Remember seeing that Cocoro posted saying the promo shots from this video with the Luka shirt made it look it like she was really athletic, whereas in reality she's bad at sports.

Kanade actually also made it to the latter rounds of the bassist auditions for Lovebites that Fami eventually got, turns out that's where I actually first came across her. She was only 15 at the time and gets featured in the documentary for the auditions (only the shortened digest version is available on their official YT, the full doc is bonus content with the album).

Funny, I just watched that yesterday, an actual good RUclips recommendation for once :)
It's a fun upbeat sound, I enjoyed it.
And interesting blurp about Rick Beato up there, that's what I think a lot when I see his titles. He is of course right about the Charts Top Stuff being mostly pretty crappy, but there's so much more out there.

Oh I like Rick. He definitely knows more about music than I do. I happened to see the title of his last video while I was posting mine. I thought it was funny that I just had so much fun listening to music while he was annoyed about music.

@@YoMota He is a cool dude, no doubt, and he is an institution. I just find his approach a bit click-baity. It's easy to complain about the spotify Top lists (which suck 99% of the time anyway), but at the same time Snarky Puppy, Dirty Loops and Polyphia videos have *millions* of views.
The fact that mainstream music is quite shallow and unoriginal is nothing new, even Paul McCartney wrote "Silly Love Songs".
It's just a question of focusing on either the good or the bad, a matter of perspective, if you will. Like Charles Cornell finding the awesome in some 30-year old video game tune.

@@guybrushthreepwood1519 Nothing against him personally, but I avoid Rick Beato. I don't follow mainstream music, so its decline in quality doesn't affect me much, whereas the improvement in the quality of the best music does.
I don't feel there's any point getting annoyed that low quality music is much more popular than more creative stuff, especially as Beato's generation has contributed to the loss (in the west) of the overlap between mainstream music and quality music, by rejecting both modern innovations and the blending of genres. I don't know his opinion - if he has one - on the current generation of Japanese bands. However, others with a similar outlook to him would complain about things like mixing and compression, and say that the drummers and bassists are too showy and should stay in the pocket more. In other words, anything that doesn't fit the conventional wisdom of 30 years ago is bad.
