That’s how I broke the online impulse shopping. I allowed myself a budget. I shopped all I wanted putting things in the cart. At the end of the week, I delete the things I really didn’t want anymore, I move those I want, but can’t fit into the budget to saved to later. Which leaves only things I need and fit into my budget. But because I’m not telling myself no, psychologically I seldom buy anything at all. Never on impulse.
One of the bigger issues with inflation this time around is they reduced the portion sizes. A bag of Doritos went from $3 to $5-6 for the same size bag, but it's now half full of air instead of only 1/4 full of air. A box of rice was $2 for 8 oz. of rice. That same size box is now $3-4, but only contains 4 oz. of rice. See this with so many food items now. Restaurants have done the same thing, raised prices for menu items, but the portion sizes are tiny now compared to what they used to be. The size of a burger at Ted's Montana Grill is about 1/2 of what it was pre-pandemic/inflation, sports bars have smaller chicken wings/portions but the prices are higher, etc. For personal savings, I've always gone with "Pay yourself first." Paycheck comes in, at least 10-15% comes out before everything else and goes into savings/rainy day fund. Then the rest is budgeted for bills/expenses and any remainder goes into savings or retirement. Exercise is great, especially the older you get since it helps you stay flexible and strong. 150+ minutes of zone 2 cardio a week and a few days of lifting, plus get some hobbies that require activity like hiking or skiing. Great way to stay/look young ever as you get older. Listen to your body and take your rest days as well, just as important as getting the work outs in.
Clark, part of what I discovered in writing my Master's thesis in human nutrition was that in attaining and maintaining optimal body fat levels, those from the ages of roughly 21-35 should do 10 hrs/week of anaerobic exercise while those over 35 need only 8 hrs/week of the same exercise. At 70 years of age, probably 6 hrs/week is optimal. It appears that 4 hrs/week of aerobic exercise is the maximal amount in reducing body fat. Anything beyond those amounts starts to become detrimental and will not further reduce body fat % via exercise alone. Anaerobic exercise reduces a higher total amount of body fat than aerobic exercise for the same amount of exercise time. Aerobic exercise does burn a higher % of fat but anaerobic exercise burns more total calories of fat. The reason is that anaerobic exercise burns more total calories than aerobic exercise for the same amount of exercise time. One should not confuse body weight with body fat %. The goal is to lose body fat not weight. In doing exercise, there is a likelihood that one will gain weight while losing body fat. The reason is that exercised muscle will store glycogen which cause muscles to hold water. If you drink 16 oz. of water you will gain 1 lb. Water is not fat. You are 1 lb. heavier but you are not 1 lb. fatter. P.S. If you want to lose weight, go into space. You will weigh nothing but you will still be just as fat. BYW, I am 79 years old and have a 6 pack of abs. I am obese by weight for my height but I have the body fat % of national level athlete. I workout 6 hrs/week with weights. Prior to hitting 70, I did 8 hrs/week of weightlifting. Two of my 60 music videos on RUclips show how I looked at the age of 39 and 41 when I competed in bodybuilding, Back then I have a 24 pack of abs.
That more than I thought people were saving! The older I get, the more I work out. Most of my friends are a lot younger than I am. I need to keep up with them.
Every time I see an Orangetheory workout center i think they sell ice cream. It looks like a place that should serve ice cream or frozen yogurt, lol. Yeah, I need to exercise more, lol
When I return my vehicle before I leave the car I specifically asked the agent how much is my bill. Once their verbal statement agrees with my expectations then I don't really worry about it anymore because the receipt will match up
My plan is now that I don't have a car payment anymore, take that money and put it, in my emergency fund ,and start back riding my recumbent bike,4 miles every other day ,I am 70+ and trying to live my best life

Clark, please tell me America will get back to the great years from the 1950s to early 2000s. We had 50 years of relative good economic times over all. What was so special about that time that it doesn't sound like it will ever be repeated in the foreseeable future?
I always put many things in my Amazon cart. I know I don't need them now. But they may be useful in the future for my job or hobbies. They are only in there so I don't have to search in the future when needed. But never get bought until actually needed or really decided that I would get my money's worth out of them.
I guess they didn't do their due diligence before visiting that po op hole, lots of videos about how they have ceramic tipped gloves that break windows with just a tap, 30 seconds your stuff is gone. My favorite is the guy that left booby trapped boxes for the crooks. Too bad they caught on and he had to stop. I'll never go back to the bay area that's for sure. For those that do go, some advice: leave nothing in vehicle, if a hatchback, leave that open. If not, leave rear windows open and vehicle unlocked. They break the rear windows so they can get to rear seat back latch to check for stuff in trunk. Also, load the po op app on your phone to help you avoid landmines. Or just don't go there, lol.
On exercising, John Hancock, on its website, has an actuarial calculator. For me, I will die at age 92 exercising weekly (more truthful) and at age 93 exercising daily. Interesting!
I believe that "Auto-IRAs," for those without workplace savings plans, would go a long way towards increasing the savings rate. I realize that this is a very low priority for Congress, as it would not help many campaign contributors, nor is there any powerful business lobby pushing for it.
I was tempted to buy gold coins one time as an investment. I thought about how much food I could buy with the amount of money for one gold coin... 500 meals?... and I said "No." Glad I did.
I come from the pain no gain generation and i have overdone exercise over the years . Symtoms could be lethargy well after doing exercise . Maybe a loss of arobic fitmess and strenght . I mountain bike as a primary form of exercise and staying at a level of zone 2 is the best level for maintaining fitness . Its a level where you can still have a conversation while your exercising . This would be a longer prolonged activity . I also do ligjt weightlifting. I also go for walks in my bare feet all in my 60s . So i am better at not overdoing . The key is listen to your body and maybe take the what the talking heads with a grain of salt .

@@acornsucks2111indeed. Especially as you get older… weight bearing exercise retains / builds muscle, but even more importantly it helps to build bone density.

#BonusTerm - "OCFPD--Obsessive Compulsive Free Parking Disorder." Lol. Just kidding. Also, travelers should *never* leave a passport in a vehicle. Not just because thieves might "break in," but you might forget it, etc. in a taxi. Always keep it on you or in the hotel room, or hotel safe.
Covid caused short term price disruptions but continued very-low interest rates, record setting money printing, government forbearance on all types of loans, and inability to spend due to lock-downs caused crazy demand, which caused inflation. Out of control inflation started by the government then people demand higher wages (they got less than inflation of course) which led to more inflation. Said simply, you cannot increase the money supply (M2 in particular) over 25% and not expect inflation to track. It's a bit more complicated but saying covid caused inflation is not correct. Your viewers are informed enough to deserve the accuracy.
We completely welcome differing opinions! Agree with your turn of events, but all of these actions were a response to COVID's impact, the initial spark (as per your 1st sentence). 💚

It also is largely dependent on the type of exercise you do. Just walking/running just doesn’t cut it when you’re older. You need weight training too.
