Luminaris 200 White Toner Printer Setup and why I choose it over a DTF Printer

  • In today's video I will be unboxing and telling you all about my new Luminaris 200 White Toner Printer! Before I started embroidery, I loved making shirts with HTV and my Silhouette Cameo. Then I learned about sublimation, and loved not having to weed and layer vinyl, but felt limited by the polyester requirement and that I could not sub onto dark material.
    I went on the hunt for a printer that could do it all, print on cotton or any other material, and print white ink so that I can press designs onto black or dark shirts. I also wanted something that could print large format. I found 2 options, the Luminaris 200 or a DTF (direct to film) printer. There are 3 reasons why DTF was not for me.
    1. The multiple pieces of equipment you have to have for DTF was a little too much for me. After the printer, you need to run your film through adhesive powder and have an additional oven to cure your film after that.
    2. The footprint for the printer and the oven was wayyyy too big for my space. Plus I would need a space to do the powder step.
    3. This was something that I forgot to mention in the video, but I'm nervous about how sensitive white ink can be. There is a bit of maintenance that is required on these printers and keeping the ink lines and print head clean is something that intimidates me.
    With the white toner printer, all I need is the regular office size printer and a heat press and I am ready to go. It uses toner so there are no ink lines to worry about clogging. Overall these are my personal reasons for going with the Luminaris 200 over a DTF printer.

    Be aware you can't print anything bigger than a 8.5 by 11 any more. You can't split larger prints in the software any more. So if you are a larger person, etc you have to find an alternative. They will sell you larger paper or more paper but the expensive machine you purchased (white toner 200) partially for that reason won't print larger sheets. Thanks Henry!!!

    • @TimothyAllenMadison
      @TimothyAllenMadison Год назад +1

      Not entirely correct. You can print 8.5 x 14" from the Luminaris 200. The reason they removed the ability to split the images in the rip software is because many people were having issues with it. However, you can split the image in other software like Photoshop and import the images separately into the rip software. I am a larger person as you say and have no problem creating and splitting (if necessary) images to put on t-shirts that fill the shirts. Ricoma doesn't hide the fact that this machine doesn't print bigger than 8.5 x 14, so if you buy it expecting something different, that's on you. If you want to do something you'll find a way. If not, you'll find an excuse.

    • @mrhaskins11
      @mrhaskins11 Год назад +1

      @@TimothyAllenMadison why not fix the issue instead of letting people buy a $8,000 unit believing they could. Most people don’t need long transfer paper (they get to sell you more using the same machine) but wider.

    • @TimothyAllenMadison
      @TimothyAllenMadison Год назад +1

      @@mrhaskins11 Then maybe people should do their diligent research before spending so much money. Do you work for Ricoma? Do you even know if they tried to fix the issue? They may have tried and just not found a good solution yet, so removing it because of the issues was likely a prudent move. I am a web and software developer, and it amuses me how many times people think fixing bug issues in software is so easy. I easily split my images in photoshop before importing them into the rip software. Like I said before, if you want to do something you'll find away, if not you'll find an excuse. If you want to be a business owner/entrepreneur, then maybe stop complaining about something you can't change and find other ways to be successful.

    • @KarlieBelle
      @KarlieBelle  10 месяцев назад +6

      Yes I was upset too when they removed the split feature from the software. However I have found a way to split the image with canva and then import each one into Vivid Rip to print 12x10 images for some shirts for Halloween. I plan to do a video on this soon!

    Karlie… what is the cost for toner refills on this printer? This is one of my concerns. Some say they can be about $1k.

    • @KarlieBelle
      @KarlieBelle  Год назад +3

      Yes the toner is expensive to replace ( starting at $199 each) and this was a concern of mine too. However from my understanding, these toners can print approximately 7000 sheets before needing to be replaced. So in comparison to buying ink for DTF (around $500 to replace all) I think I will get more out of this printer.

      I think the best way to keep your designs from cracking is to make sure you have your heat press set at the highest pressure it can be. Also, I’ve recently learned about T Seal and that also helps your design.

    • @KarlieBelle
      @KarlieBelle  10 месяцев назад

      Make sure that you are peeling the adhesive sheet off immediately after the heat press opens. It needs to be a hot peel. Also, I peel it very slowly going from one corner to the next and I do rub it with a towel before I peel it.

      The largest film I can print on is 8 1/2 x 14. However I have found that I can use a program like Canva or Adobe illustrator to split designs and print them as big as I need to. For example I like to put 12“ x 12“ designs on large shirts and I can do that by splitting the design into two printing.

    Why do I get a smoky box around the image

    • @KarlieBelle
      @KarlieBelle  Год назад +1

      That may be from some adhesive that transferred to your film with the image after marrying the 2 together. It usually happens on the edges of the film, so I trim those off before pressing the film to the shirt. Let me know if that helps you.
