@@Epicmonkeyboy046125 if you follow kosher rules you aren't allowed to eat milk and meat together. The rule is that you cannot eat dairy within 4 hours of meat. So that may be why he asked.

But either way, it makes more sense that he asked if they're dairy free because he assumed that there's for sure no meat in a doughnut, which only leaves the possibility of non kosher dairy. (i.e. cheese is made using rennet which is considered non-kosher according to most halachic authorities.

He's Kosher, and in Jewish law if he had eaten meat for lunch or something he wouldn't be allowed to eat dairy for a certain amount of time.
Noam Emerson-Fleming there is also a very small chance that he is extremely religious and is not willing to eat unkosher dairy products. At some levels of observance of the milk is not only handled by people who keep the Sabbath, it is unkosher and therefore it’s products may not be eaten (but I will say this is a very high level of observance).
