How to Brew A Hoppy Lager Beer

- In this brewing video, we show you how to make a hoppy lager using Nelson Sauvin hops. This is a low abv light lager that we're making to take to a friend's wedding. We're brewing it in honor of their two old cats that are known to pee everywhere, so we're calling this a Cat Piss Wedding Lager. However, catty is also a beer term that can describe good and bad flavors. We're obviously going for a good catty flavor that is similar to blackcurrant juice. This beer is going to get its light, easy-drinking, and dry body from a grain bill consisting of pale malt, acid malt, flaked corn and flaked rice. We mash these at a lower temperature than usual in order to extract more fermentable sugars from them. We recommend you follow along with this tutorial, brew this recipe at home, and take it to the pool on a hot summer day, share it with friends at a cookout, or take it to a game day tailgate. Check out the resources below for a full recipe, brewing equipment, and an article about what makes Nelson Sauvin hops special.

Aquaman and Gimli did a great job on this one, thouroughly enjoyable
"So I'm just gonna add a little lactic acid. I like to do the scientific approach...
Like 'that' much in a cap"
Pretty much sums up every brew day ever.
Rarely comment but got to say I really enjoy your videos, like the balance of banter and brewing. Wish I had the money to order one of your brewing systems, really like the simplicity of it and the grain basket
I would love to see a beer brewed with the WLP862 Cry Havoc strain from you guys. Thats what I use in my flagship beer, Dwarven Gold which is like a Kötbussser. I love these brewing videos keep up the great work!
Love the vids guys, love my PID controller also. Thanks
More Ross and more hats 😀. Awesomeness
Keep making those Lagerbiers!
If you want to try the room temp lager fermentation you can try using White Lab's Cry Havock strain. I have done several lagers this way and they all turn out great. The fermentation temp is around the low 60s if I remember right and they have all turned out great. I used the brulosophy guy's experiments to guide me on how to properly modify the fermentation time.
Easy on the hops, man!
Keep it up guys!
I love low abv, i have a 8 gallon kettle so theres a lot of all grain i can't do til i upgrade
amazing
this was great haha
We actually just brewed and aimed for around a 10% 5gallon beer that we split into 2 5 gallon batches and dumped water on to come out w a nice crushable 4% beer.
On a hot day you'll want a low abv and personally I don't care about the abv. I care more about flavor from a great product that o can make at Home. That Lager looks refreshing.
I love double IPAs and Russian imperial stouts as much as the next guy, but there's something about a crisp, refreshing lager!
I would love you guys forever if you were to brew a legit Munich Helles. Malty, but not sweet. Light noble hops smell and flavor. Pils malt, Hallertau hops, your choice of Bavarian lager yeast... Straight up Reinheitsgebot! It would also be neat to see you do a decoction mash!
Reinheitsgebot!
I would like a video on how to properly lager a beer. I did one but couldn’t not get the egg taste out. Getting ready to brew another in a few days.
I think the correct term for this could be called "cheesing" you know from South Park, Kenny getting high off cat piss
I enjoy making a lower abv beer.
Love Lower abv beer and hats, Crack on! haters hate
We live in an era where anything we dont like is called hate just so that we can justify censorship.
@@TheBelrick we also live in an era where opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one. No one cares.
@@kevinmrn how are you as a healthy person enjoying the ruling opinion that you must be locked in your home and have to wear a face diaper when emerging?
Nice cap cat!! This is color experience of the LSD...🐺🐱🐺😅😅😅
Idk what's the problem about low ABV beers. That's all I brew. You Enjoy more that way.
@james cowboy most british beer is around 4 percent and under
You had me at cat piss,
And then crushable.
Could I do 50/50 say 2.5 pounds 2 row and 2.5 lbs of 6 row. Addition with the rice and corn?
any chance of an impy stout?
Why dont you aerate using the kettle lid and the spray nozzle thats attached to it, rather than shaking the fermenting bucket
Adding 0.2 oz of hops
The Alan guy: boom!
Do a BIG Russian Imperial Stout with a reiterated mash. It's what your followers want.
why use expensive hops at 60 mins when all you're getting from them in bitterness? why not just use magnum or warrior or something? Genuine question btw.
perhaps DMS from capping the boil
Bwhahaha I love these videos
hey guys,
What exactly do you guys have under neat the kettle? is it like an insulator? if it is what kind?
I'm trying to insulate my 120v system i have from you guys. For better efficiency.
it looks like a pizza stone
@@BenSund right, but i wanna see if they would reply me. or i might end up emailing them.
that's way cool man . you guys have got the piss lager down . as for me ill pass only because I cant do cat piss . but it does look good as you guys were drinking it
If you dont mind me asking, what PH meter is that?
Milwaukee MW102
@@dubchedford Thank you very much.
Is this a cornona clone?
Pallbearer \m/
Ignore the haters. Low ABV is always the way to brew
Paul No its not. It’s just one of the ways to brew. Do what you like!
Ross is my favorite
Is this American Beer?
instead of adding hops you should add cat litter
I love me one. Pass the cat piss!
Skål 🍺
dude reminds me of zac galfanis or whatever the fk hes called
I, for one, enjoy sessionable beers. You can drink two and not be sloshed. Also, I enjoy hats, but not cats. Allergies, you see.
Its not necessarily that people love the taste of cat piss. To some people the Aroma just doesn't taste like cat but rather like blackcurrant, because it is the same aromatic compound
I don't like nelson sauvin in my lagers, thanks though.
lager looks super thin, although you was aiming for piss
I'm good with low ABV beers. Haters gonna hate though. However, I don't think I'd be in a rush to try anything with "cat piss" in the name, just saying. ;-)
grind ground* ground*
Have yall considered getting an oxygen tank and stone?
Personally I pronounce it Sauvin, rather than Sauvin but I don't think anyone's judging you.
nice cracked screen
Simcoe is the cat piss hops....Not Nelson, far from it.
Totally. Some older harvest Simcoe hops for sure were catty. Last year's harvest have had some decent beers with no cats.
just how many drugs did this guy take lmao
No real cat piss. I thought this was craft.
I don't like cat piss in my lager, thanks anyways.
