Let us see you perform that well at that age. I guess Chuck Berry should have retired too since he could no longer do the "duck walk". The crowd loved it. It's about the fans. Having grown up listening to Tull' since the 70's...as far back as I can remember...and I am 42, I am SO jealous of one of my older best friends who got to see them back in the mid-70's, along with KISS, Ted Nugent, etc.

After seeing Tull in their prime in the mid seventies while I was stationed in the US Navy in London back then, I was graced with the acknowledgement by Ian who ALWAYS understood the fan's perspective and easily accommodated them during his performances. This particular concept album AQUALUNG from which this song 'Locomotive Breath' first appeared, holds a dear place in my heart and is very personal to me in a special way. While I was on the job in London we would send 2 people on a chow(food) run in the evening. So, While I was waiting in the car for my shipmate to return with our order, I was eating my McDonald's fries, which I had ordered for myself earlier and was startled by a loud knock on the window. I looked out and seen this long grey hair and full bearded fifty year old shabby dressed man pointing to my food and saw my partner approaching. Thinking quick, I rolled down my window and threw my fries at him, hoping to distract the 'Aqualung' so we could make a clean get away back to work. On our return I played the locomotive breath song and turned my friend on to the concept album after I explained the parallels of the album and our real life incident. He became an instant Tull fan. I have worked many years feeding the 'Aqualungs' in our society, the down and out, each one created in the image of God and this is not lost on Ian who laments how a Good God could allow such uncompasioned cruelty to accosted the common man. As the album progresses, you have the religeous angst of a once good and productive citizen having evil foisted upon him and the inevitable cruelty and randomness of the frail human experince. So Aqualung has sought solace for his wife's betrayal by dropping out of productive society and turning to the bottle to cope with the life crushing pain. Ian beautifuly weaves the story with expansive use of illustrative prose set to his mischievous minstrel tale of the fall and decline of this poor man, now regulated in ill health to a slow, welcome death from the personal hell life has become with Aqualung relegated to the streets...maybe that is why when I retired from my regular job, I worked at a homeless feeding mission till my health would not allow it....you never know how music, the art, not only imitates but influences your life...Thank You Ian Anderson, may you live long and prosper!

Ian is a great guy and a Genius. Oh I worked at the Hilton (Supervisor) in charge of VIP'S. I met so many Bands and others. I loved my job. I have the Cap that Eric Clapton gave me sitting on my Dashboard, it's been there for years. All awesome people in the Bands, not one was rude or self righteous. Tull was my first concert back in the 70s.Ian Anderson is a born showman.Of course he's sounding a bit older .He's 68 years old!!. How many true showman can play and prance around the stage at that age ? He's wealthy and doesn't have to.He loves to and it clearly shows.My youth was made more enjoyable because of Jethro Tull.
From a man who is dealing with COPD, it's amazing that he can sing at all or exert himself by running around the stage and playing the flute must also be considerably difficult. All the more reason to commend him.

You just cant beat the 60's 70's and early 80's ROCK N ROLL God Blessed us all back then with Music that really had Heart Poured into it !!!!!!!! Miss being a Sound Engineer from those day's it was a Memorable Experience Tour Bus Runs and Early Rise for Set-Up and Sound Checks and late to Bed with a Good Joint and the Echo of the Tour Bus Engine purring me to sleep !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can still close my Eye's and Hear It, and Feel It, I can still remember Cruisin Hollywood Blvd and Sunset Strip going up and down the Blvd. when I wasn't on Tour, I had the Top Down Jammin And Cruisin nothing else like it, The Good Ole Day's WHEN MUSIC WAS A WAY OF LIFE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think the best of all was being able to go on Tour Overseas and out of the USA, seeing other cultures of Life and There People so a Blessing to be able to reminisce on all of it is just knowing what I did I made a lot of People Happy !! and got to know them and can still call them My Friend's I still to this Day call some of them and write them God Bless all of Them and to many I can't R.I.P.

What memory's.It takes me back to a teenager that had no idea what he would do with his life,or what he wanted to become in his life.No idea of what was in store for him,but one thing was for sure.I knew great music was all around me, and I was not lost on that fact.This band was one of the best at that time.I was able to see them one time.Late 70s,when I was 17 years old.It was at the old HollyWood Sportatorium,South Florida.

Saw him last fall. Great show. His voice is a bit rough but he still rocks his ass off. I also saw him do his JT in the 21st Century. Also an excellent time.
Three of my five kids played the flute because of Ian Anderson. Best years of my life. My oldest daughter came over the other day and the first record she put on my turntable was Thick as a Brick. Took a while to get the old gal working.
That was a very tight performance. My favorite Tull band was the Glenn Cornick/Martin Barre era, but this band here delivered a great performance. I don't know the last time I heard Ian's flute playing so impassioned.
Have seen a number of iterations of JT over the years. Some former players have given better/more faithful renditions of original pieces (Andy Giddings comes to mind) but no matter who is playing they are always tight and exciting to listen to. Yes, Ian's voice isn't as strong as it used to be but the flute playing just gets better. I'm happy he's brought in a supporting vocalist to take some of the singing duties. Ian's voice is always better second half of a concert so a couple of tracks at a festival isn't a fair indication. I hope Ian won't hang up the flute for a good few years yet especially as new music is spilling out of him again.

Thank you Jethro Tull. My very first joint we put them on n it was amazing. I was 11 or 12. Saw them 3 times since. Always reminds me of that first buzz great memories IAM 61 now....
Tull was my first concert back in the 70s.Ian Anderson is a born showman.Of course he's sounding a bit older .He's 68 years old!!. How many true showman can play and prance around the stage at that age ? He's wealthy and doesn't have to.He loves to and it clearly shows.My youth was made more enjoyable because of Jethro Tull.

From a man who is dealing with COPD, it's amazing that he can sing at all or exert himself by running around the stage and playing the flute must also be considerably difficult. All the more reason to commend him.

That flute always sends a shiver down my spine. Saw these guys many years ago in my youth. Their music brings back many memories of my misspent times. Fun times though!

He needs to use this stage singer in all of his shows. Sounds perfect since ians voise is shot but he still masters his stage precence and the flute.
Nothing but respect and more knowing that Ian is compensating his unique voice with a worthy singer and artist on stage! Jethro tull will live on!
You just cant beat the 60's 70's and early 80's ROCK N ROLL God Blessed us all back then with Music that really had Heart Poured into it !!!!!!!! Miss being a Sound Engineer from those day's it was a Memorable Experience Tour Bus Runs and Early Rise for Set-Up and Sound Checks and late to Bed with a Good Joint and the Echo of the Tour Bus Engine purring me to sleep !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can still close my Eye's and Hear It, and Feel It, I can still remember Cruisin Hollywood Blvd and Sunset Strip going up and down the Blvd. when I wasn't on Tour, I had the Top Down Jammin And Cruisin nothing else like it, The Good Ole Day's WHEN MUSIC WAS A WAY OF LIFE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think the best of all was being able to go on Tour Overseas and out of the USA, seeing other cultures of Life and There People so a Blessing to be able to reminisce on all of it is just knowing what I did I made a lot of People Happy !! and got to know them and can still call them My Friend's I still to this Day call some of them and write them God Bless all of Them and to many I can't R.I.P.

I love watching this right after the older live version and seeing that Ian still has the moves and knows how to make his entrance after all these years. Sure he's a little older as I am too, and but he's still got it! Long live Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull!

What memory's.It takes me back to a teenager that had no idea what he would do with his life,or what he wanted to become in his life.No idea of what was in store for him,but one thing was for sure.I knew great music was all around me, and I was not lost on that fact.This band was one of the best at that time.I was able to see them one time.Late 70s,when I was 17 years old.It was at the old HollyWood Sportatorium,South Florida.
Fantastic! Sad that Ian’s health is effecting his vocals but it’s still so great! The singer that fills in for him is pretty amazing!! Ian’s flute playing is the best!!

You could if you had seen them in the late 60's early 70's, still talented but just not the same. I have been going to their concerts since 1971. Anderson is all in it for the money nowadays.

I wholeheartedly agree! Why isn’t Jethro Tull in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? I’ve seen them 3 times, first time in 1971, and they were outside each time! Long live Ian Anderson. The music of my youth 😊.
The Isle of Wight Festival vibe has changed considerably since 1970, when Tull first performed.
Totally different festival.
Saw him last fall. Great show. His voice is a bit rough but he still rocks his ass off. I also saw him do his JT in the 21st Century. Also an excellent time.

Three of my five kids played the flute because of Ian Anderson. Best years of my life. My oldest daughter came over the other day and the first record she put on my turntable was Thick as a Brick. Took a while to get the old gal working.
That was a very tight performance. My favorite Tull band was the Glenn Cornick/Martin Barre era, but this band here delivered a great performance. I don't know the last time I heard Ian's flute playing so impassioned.
Cornick & Bunker, the best rhythm section Tull ever had, and with Martin Barre, superb, the best lineup for Tull, hands down!

Greatest all-round entertainer imo.
Have seen a number of iterations of JT over the years. Some former players have given better/more faithful renditions of original pieces (Andy Giddings comes to mind) but no matter who is playing they are always tight and exciting to listen to. Yes, Ian's voice isn't as strong as it used to be but the flute playing just gets better. I'm happy he's brought in a supporting vocalist to take some of the singing duties. Ian's voice is always better second half of a concert so a couple of tracks at a festival isn't a fair indication. I hope Ian won't hang up the flute for a good few years yet especially as new music is spilling out of him again.
I'll add my concensis on the flute playing,but let's be honest that voice is scary.
Ian Anderson is still the great Ian Anderson that i knew!!
I'm 69 and still love them been to so many concerts I can't count probably the best band live ever.
