I've been making a similar one using a stapler to secure an elastic band within the folds on the sides. Bamboo and shop towels(washable paper towels) are more robust.
This is excellent. I'm just going to add a piece of HEPA filter material to the inside square before folding in half to seal. When it's ready to retire, I'll just rip the HEPA material out, wash it, and reuse it in another mask, etc. Great for a fast mask without sewing. Thank you so very much! If you do this, paper towels are too porous, so try w Cotton fabric, or with those Blue Scott mechanic clothes. Looks like a paper towel roll, but blue, and can be hand washed with soap & water and re-used. Make enough to rotate out so you have clean one. You can find them in any Auto / Car aisle at grocery or walmart etc.
I just bought a blue paper towel from Home Depot. Feels like the thickness will work. Texture feels like flannel. I was planning to use it as a filter insert on a cloth facemask that I'm planning to make. Now I see this video, I can actually use the Home Depot paper towel as a stand alone face mask.
bud, might as well just use the cloth mask, this shit won’t do anything else but restrict your breathing. use proper face masks this just a waste of time
@David Smith I agree that paper towels are too coarse, you should at least put a disposable paper tissue between the towels. Better yet, 2 coffee filters are great.

WHat you can do to make it better is to put a very think lay of plastic (the one we use to wrap food) in the middle before you fold the mask (02:00). Make sure that this mask can be used ONCE only, then you have to throw it away!
@Steff Strong FOr the rotection it is not true at all because the disinfectant will work for sometime, but when the mask will be dry it will no longer work. On the top of this, it is not good to breath the disinfectant. These are no my words, but they are from the WHO.

I wouldn't reuse the filter. Toss the whole mask cheapo....
You can make 3 or 4 masks out of a HEPA vacuum cleaner bag.
