Maruti Suzuki’s 2018 Swift has been launched at Auto Expo 2018. Priced at Rs 4.99 lakh-Rs 7.29 lakh for the petrol and Rs 5.99 lakh-Rs 8.29 lakh for the diesel (all prices ex-showroom Delhi), the new Swift has been competitively positioned. We got to drive the petrol and diesel, automatic and manual versions of this iconic hatchback. While automatic gearboxes are a first for the Swift, the engines are the tried and tested 1.3 litre diesel and 1.2 litre petrol engines. But all this comes in a brand new package that promises to make the Swift an even better all-rounder and more fun. Yes, the expectations are sky high! And there's some tough competition in store from the likes of the Hyundai Grand i10 and the Swift's own sibling - the Maruti Ignis. We take a spin to see what the 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift can meet those expectations.

For some reason whenever Mr. karthikeya is reviewing a vehicle, I feel he covers every aspect better than other reviewers; He actually makes it a point to test the vehicle on basis practicality. I wish he had reviewed the new gen ecosport too.

Well presented. But a Sport Mode? Seriously? On this puny little 1.2 Petrol that barely makes 90 bhp? Somethings are best not copied from the west. BTW the Swift in the UK and Europe gets more power, more safety and better tuned engines. In India we are suckers for anything carmakers throw at us. Also, the Indian version gets shitty rims and no rear disc brakes even in 2018.

As always Karthikeya sir nailed it with an awesome review. I was planning to buy the Swift ZXI+. But it's priced at 8.86 lacs OTR in Bangalore. Whereas Hyundai Grand i10 Asta petrol costs only 7.91 lacs here. Is the new Swift a segment above the Grand i10? Baleno and Elite i20 is a segment higher. But the new Swift's pricing is confusing. 😕

The tried and tested 1.3 DDIS engine is still borrowed from fiat like the first gen. swift? and do this engine has same life then before?

How does the suspension of swift 2018 compare with the current baleno ? Is it uncomfortably stiff like the baleno ????
As usual an amazing review . . Only thing that killed the excitement is the absense of the ZXi Plus variant with an AGS option. . All the goodies not available for a petrol model lover with an AGS variant. .

Could you please tell us how safe this car is & how about the build quality?? I am planning to buy this but little bit confused about it's build quality and safety features. I have seen few recent accident videos of new swift, it looks like build quality is very poor.

Allo! I need your sagely advice. See, my options are the new Swift ZXI and VXi. Is the VXi better value for money? Do the bigger tyres in ZXi make a big difference? I'm also considering my old favourite Grand i10 Asta. Would you please give me your thoughts? I have to test-drive these cars, decide, find the money, and sell my faithful, long-serving Alto LXI (2003) by next week. Help!

Sir,very much agreed with your point that the weight of the car don't tell how safe the car is.
But,there is an issue with the swift.
Even the European spec car which consists of 6 airbags got a 3 star safety rating in Euro NCAP.And with safety pack which includes some other electricals,it scored 4 stars.
However,Indian version is devoid of any of these features,so isn't it true that the safety score of the Indian spec swift will be below 3 stars which isn't considered safe?
No offense to you Sir and I always wait for your reviews as they're simply the best in the business.
Also, I just love the way the new Swift looks!

It comes in more like a target product for the original Swift enthusiast's . . What I mean is, with such a minor difference in price to the Baleno, it would be great to see how many customers does the new swift attract. .
Mostly people would prefer the bigger and more handsome Baleno by stretching their budget a bit :/

I like the front end. Rear is also decent. Do not like the alloys, rear door handle and 2 circular looking air vents in between look out of place, old model figo had this.
Ok when you talk about the AMT version why dont you drive one and review it just like Autocar...You are talking about AMT's characteristics and ride experience while driving an Manual transmission...People are noting things guys !!!

Soon we will see Suzuki making balloons that are fast (oh yeah) , light( for sure), fuel efficient ( oh what are you talking about), safety ( when were we concerned about that)!!!!
On the serious note, indeed this swift is better in terms of looks, performance, power to weight ratio.... But SUZUKI is not providing proper structurally rigid cars in India!!! That was a fact, is a fact and will continue to be so atleast till 2020!!!!
Please Suzuki motors provide a bit more hard built cars not tincan or balloons!!!

see there are two groups... One who thinks and has witnessed suzuki cars to prove themselves as tincans!!! And another group believes that Suzuki cars are safe!!!
Now indeed it is a fact that suzuki has moved far away from their previous position in terms of safety and that is why as the leading car manufacturer in India we should ask for more... Afterall it is the consumer's right to get the safety features as standard in Suzuki cars that other manufacturers with less market share provide as standard...

s DC7 thank you sir! But, I think it's importNt for me to understand how you judge safety to decide whether a new car is structurally safe. If we were to judge human strength on the basis of the skin, we'd be doing our skeletons a big disservice.
