I could never imagine that after I saw your shopping centre video back in 2014 that i'd still be watching this city evolve in 2022 while in collage. But I am here for it, so much change in my life, but your channel has been one of the few constants.

This is an absolutely incredible, and in some ways, shocking, change. I never would have expected this. But I definitely get the perspective and why. I am very happy that making these changes gives you an new jolt of life for working on the city, and I'm stoked to see what the changes evolve into going forward!

Hey Jang, Used to watch your reviews when your Jangbricks channel was starting out from 2011- 15 when I was about 9- 13 years old. Great to see you are still just as passionate about Lego, and it’s amazing how much you’ve done with your City since then, I’ve got a lot of catching up to do : )

Half of me feels like this is a very high commitment April fool's joke given the time of year this was uploaded. But on the other hand it looks interesting not having all of those buildings in place and I'd be intrigued to see how this would go.

In-universe, would you say that the middle aisle is a lake? If so, you can fashion the places near the aisle to be lake-side areas, maybe even kind of like the Bay Area!

This is a pretty big change, and frankly I’m a fan! Have you considered the possibility of doing a roadless city? All transportation done by train or monorail for the longer distances and just having walking paths through the city. This would open up a ton of space!

Railroad conductor here, having a lead to your yard makes switching MUCH easier, good call. I will say don't be afraid to mix freight and passenger trackage. The line I run hosts both passenger (Commuter and long distance) and freight, I'll run mile long freight trains right through downtown past the stations no different than the passenger trains. One other thing from a model railroad side, avoiding the long straights RIGHT next to the edge of the scene may help create the illusion of depth if you feel you need that in the future

Ngl I'll miss how immersive the wide shots were with an almost solid city footprint, especially after adding the "sky" curtains. However this is much more practical and probably what I would have done if I were building a city this big. I like having easy access to everything so I can play and lift off buildings to appreciate interior details and drive cars through the streets, etc. I'm happy Jang's happy.

Sure, as if I'm not envious enough of your city 😀
I think this is a great change. Yes, you loose a bit on one side of the lay out with houses and streets now gone, but if trains can ride around in a greater arc and switch between tracks, that's always great.
I understand it's different in the USA where passenger transport and cargo transport are separated, but in Europe it's very common to have cargotrains riding the same tracks as passenger trains and through the city. In the city I grew up in the railroad divided the city in two halfs: I lived in one half, had to be in the other daily, and you quickly learned at which times the passenger train came and when the cargo train. Both travelled slowly since it was near a station, but the cargo train meant you'd be late to wherever you needed to go.
