You are Absolutely Right Bro. Most of us abroad are buying properties in Nigeria because we didn't want to stay in an Hotel whenever we come to Nigeria. Also most of us wants to bring our children to visit Nigeria and being in your own home is the most Ideal for most of us. Sometimes, buying a home is not always because of an investment. Thanks Bro for discussing this issue.

Building a house in Africa was never about financial speculation. It was about putting your root into the ground so your descendant could remember your name. Those names or surnames were used as the family's address within the city or village. Family members and children's placentas are buried as a symbol of continuity.
EX: The household of BOB or the Jacksons will keep that name for generations and nobody will dare change it. Having a household is a source of Prestige and respect. You can't go back home and sleep in a hotel, expensive or not, you can't squat, because that is a disgrace.

  • @Stanners13

You’re absolutely right building house in the village is not financial investment but generational investment. I have tenants in my family house purely to take care of the house. Having family house in the village for me is more symbolic than anything else. My late father is buried in our family house

@@tayokaratecomplete rubbish. Please stop writing things you know nothing about.
@Stanners is right. It doesn’t matter whether our kids take the houses or not, we do it because we know the meaning of it. Not every knows the deep meaning of it - just as you don’t.
When we build houses and bury our parents there, it is symbolic in our hearts and it gives us the fulfilment that we gave them the ultimate honour after their death.
@tayokarate - it is not everything people comment on. Stop commenting on things from the eyes of either ignorance or your prejudices.

New subscriber! This is a great topic. The best way to start in naija real estate investing at a small scale is to build a semi-detached 2 unit house where you sell one and air bnb the other (which you use the few days or weeks on ground). Ideally it should be either in Lagos or Abuja (best cash flow possibilities) but it should be viable in other major cities. The village house consideration is real and important for ndi Igbo (historically goes back to the ‘60s). It’s 100% emotional investment and all very necessary IF your family doesn’t have a suitable village abode and you are the head of household of your family. Otherwise, I agree that any naija real estate investment has to be done on a short term turnaround as a development endeavor. Sorry for the long write up ❤🇳🇬

It is not emotional investment when you buy or build a house in your village. It is not an investment. For most, it's a mark of their belonging to the root, its them establishing their connection. If it satisfies their inner need and peace, let them do it in peace. I t doesn't have to make sense to everybody else, as long as you desire it and you can afford it, then do it

I was in Nigeria 2019 and 2020 and i noticed most people build duplexes and not rental apartments. You mentioned a deficit in homes ,thats right but the majority of the people can't afford these luxury homes. Why not go for apartments and cashflow. With time the property appreciates, and you can sell later.

I would rather build my home than to buy one, they want to sell homes that should have been $200k for 1 million dollars they think making dollars here is that easy 😂….. My 4-bedroom home here in the United States looks way more beautiful than Naija's $800k homes also our neighborhood is clean, greeny and those houses are spacious. Nigeria's real estate needs to swallow their greed. They need to build quality affordable homes.

My dear brother, try to study real estate before educating the public on property investment. Property will always appreciate all things being equal. The only time you will lose money is when you sell in desperation. Right now, our Nira is very weak. This is the best time for people abroad to invest in real estate . If you invest in property in Nigeria today, you'll be grateful in the nearest future .
This is not the time to flip property. If you do, inflation will swallow your profit.
I am encouraging all Nigerian in diaspora to take advantage of this weak Nira to invest in property now. Please don't FLIP your property for now.

You actually effectively made the case that Nigeria is a jungle, devoid of deep soul and collective spirit where the smart logic is to think and act in the short term. In other words: There is NO FUTURE. As Africans, home and abroad, we are living in historical anachronism.
When will "things become stable". And HOW? We can't all just be people who (a) act on emotions or (b) think and act in the short term, and expect that our descedants will have a future. We must raise our consciousness and transform.

The same Daddy freeze that said in one of his videos that Nigerians are living better than people that traveled overseas? I don't know what is wrong with some Nigerians, why would you buy property in Nigeria that operates in Naira and expect return in Dollars, is that not madness? Ok go and buy property in America now where you'll be paying mortgage for 30 years before you get to own the property plus the property tax you'll be paying afterwards. These Nigerians live in Nigeria, yet they act like they know what is happening around the world. While countries like Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, SA and Senegal are calling on Africans diasporas to come and invest back home, you people are telling them not to invest in Nigeria, whereas Lebanese, Indians and Chinese are buying up properties in Nigeria. So you're calling those ones stupid right? Don't worry, very soon you all will become tenants in houses belonging to foreigners. Senseless people!

Daddy f. very correct. Imagine Nigerians in diaspora how many properties they have lost during this ongoing demo of properties by Sanowolu. You can imagine their feelings right now. But I must say not all igbos bought houses in Lagos. Those igbos without houses are happy that they didnt and others that have houses and lands in lagos are looking to sell it at all cost. So Nigerians in diaspora invest in the part of world you are living and forget about Nigeria. Once you have a good house in your village forget about buying properties or investing right now in Nigeria as it does not worth your hard work abroad.

Daddy Freeze said since you need a roof over your head, buy a house to live in. However, if you want to invest in rental property. He would rather ask you to invest in luxury watches. DF is not discoraging anyone and bear in mind that some people do not know about luxury watches. DF did not say there is no returns in Real Estate, he said Luxury watches beats that returns everyday. His message is not for people who do things based on lack of knowledge or sentiments. He is encouraging the newbreed of Nigerians to think outside the box.

Lol..😂 you should know by now that owning your own home or having properties in Naija as a Nigerian is a generational wealth creator for your children, grandchildren, and beyond. Don't take my advice. Go ask or research for yourself.

    • @user-ug1sl3xy9r
      @user-ug1sl3xy9r 10 месяцев назад

@ikechukwuobi4784 What do you understand by generation wealth? The term “generational wealth” refers to any assets passed down by one generation of a family to another. These assets can include stocks, bonds, real estate, family businesses and any other investments such as Luxury watches. There, my friend, real estate is not the only means for generational worth. Stop listening to Pastors and do a little thinking outside your comfort zone. At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.

If you don't insult Pastors, you don't feel good. But when your own push comes to shove, you still somehow end up beside a Pastor somewhere.
Why not just go on with your debates and leave innocent people out.

There are a a lot of factors to consider when it comes to housing investment. Nobody is buying watches without owning houses, so asking first time buyers to do that is not good advice. Can you invest in both, of course but invest in real estate first but consider other factors. Don’t go and build your house in a village where economic growth is at a stand still and expect speedy equity growth. do not throw money into watches as your first investment.
