Forging a Trench KATANA out of Rusted Iron CHAIN

- Опубликовано: 20 май 2021
- This time, I tried to make a beautiful Trench Katana. I have given an antique look to this Katana by bluing technique.
Overall Sword Length : 32 Inches
Handle Length : 6 Inches
Blade Length : 26 Inches
Weight : 1.379 KG or 1379 Grams
All the Processes are below of making this beautiful KATANA:
Forging:
It took me about three days to hand forge an Iron Chain piece into a long Metal Strip and this was one of my hardest forging ever. I don't have a power hammer so i did all the forging with hands and turned a chain piece into an almost 32 - 33 inches long steel strip.
Grinding:
I started some rough grindings of long strip on my professional Surface Grinder and turned the strip into a flat Katana shaped long steel piece. I also hand sanded the edges with the help of file to remove almost all the roughness of the sword.
o. The blade bevel was made by my professional angle grinder.
o. Hand Sanded the blade to remove roughness.
Making the Fire Clay:
I took 2% CLAY, 2% COAL and 1% Rust. All the ingredients were mixed in a particular amount of water and I putted the thick layer of this fire clay on my sword and let the blade dry for a night.
Hardness:
There is a professional way to harden a Katana and that is
Covering the whole sword in a Fire Clay (Insulation) Except the blade bevel. After that we put the sword into the fire and heat it to critical temperature. We use oil to Quench the heated sword in it. Now the Bevel is hard and the remaining sword is annealed. Tempering the blade is the best way to increase the Strength, Hardness and Toughness of the sword.
Trench Handle:
I used Wax casting technique for making the Handle. First i roughly made a Wax Design of the Trench Handle and poured the casting plaster on it and burned all the wax inside the plaster in my furnace. Then I casted the Brass in Mold and made a beautiful Handle for my Katana.
Bluing Technique:
There are bunch of bluing techniques but i love the Cold bluing technique the most because it saves a lot of my time and gives a beautiful finish. The blade and Handle was blued in the same way and the beautiful outcome you can see in the video.

Try making something new like a bear claw (the knife that you put on your hands and it has a few knifes together) that would be cool

I bet those flowers enjoyed the view, I sure did, awesome work
But wasn't that a little too much water?
@@MemberoftheUnusAnnuscult wayy to much water, looks like it almost drowned

This man has an ethereal gift for making a great video. Fantastic cinematography is one I didn't expect
Definitely my favorite video by far, that slow mo was amazing
Random hands I have a video idea, you should make a katana but use old fashioned techniques it sounds like a fun video to watch!
@Randy Orton it’s possible just a bit tedious but possible
That's a pretty good idea u have
I haven't been here for long, but from what I've seen, RH's style is more of turning metal pieces into new stuff. In that, he always cuts the piece into shape and then grinds them, as opposed to the more old-fashioned method of hammering an ingot or piece of metal into the shape of a sword. Mind you two things:
1.I'm no expert, and I'm just speaking my mind here, so I could be wrong.
2.I think that changing the style like this would mean an investment into equipment, so I ain't sure it's going to happen.
That said, I would also like to see a video with mire traditional methods, I just think it would be unlikely.
Amm, Good Idea but First i have to improve my skills that much.
@@RandomHands random hands can u make a shorts channel or a channel where u post small clips so we have something to watch when you don’t upload :)

Random hands :
This guy can LITERALLY build anything out of rusty chains.
I love how calming this is to watch. I don't know why exactly, maybe it's because it's something new but also something familiar. It's not like grinding metal or hammering is what most people would call "pleasant" but it's like white noise, maybe? Like having a fan on or a thunderstorm. I find it soothing. Sometimes I put it on while I'm doing other things (cleaning up) and if I feel like I missed anything I just back it up a bit. Chill therapy + I learn stuff + cool sword at the end = 😊😊😊
+ kittens = 😁😁😁
