It's nice when you talk to the phone just like a friend. It's also nice for some in your age group to speak our native tongue fluently. It's actually rarer than most people think.
I was born and raised in the U. S and yes.. a lot of viet people are "surprised" i can speak viet like a "true viet"? Does that make sense? 🤷♀️ but their first question to me is always "how long u been here? Oh! Born here? U speak vietnamese so perfectly!" 🤨
@@ktran1982 I am also born and raised in the US and have run across those same questions. I also read Vietnamese fairly well but cannot write at all. Those who only know 1 language don't understand how that happens. I learned how to read Vietnamese during karaoke of my favorite Viet songs. 😂
where my parents have been immigrated it’s actually more common to find people of her age group to speak their mother tongue (in my case chinese) while in the younger generation
@onggia850 yes!! Me too! I do get asked how I know how to speak but not read or write lol. 🤷♀️ well. We speak it with our parents. But really never learned to read or write. Other then memorizing our fave vietnamese music and doing karaoke lol
Hearing you talk about your feelings and experience this way was incredible! This has been one of the most enjoyable videos I’ve seen. The vulnerability and tone (and subtitles)… drew me into feeling your emotions as most of us can relate to in our own lives. Thanks SO very much for this kind of content. Sending love 🥰
I love the videos where you speak Vietnamese. I was never taught by my father, and it really hurts to feel closed off to that portion of my culture, so I VERY MUCH appreciate you putting captions over these videos. You make me feel a bit closer to my culture. Much love from one Viet Vixen to another ❤
i'm not viet but this gave me a warm feeling... as someone who is slightly detached from their mothertongue it feels so comforting and personal to hear you speak to us so fluently, like we're having a heart-to-heart. thank you
This was so much fun to watch. I’m very sorry that the kiddos and hubs weren’t being cool with your bun rieu and upset you today by refusing to even try the food. I totally agree with you about getting older and having less friends and partying differently. Ever since my car accidents and migraine condition, I have to be super protective of my sleep because it will upset all my other health conditions.
@@alissanguyen_ahhh gotcha! My new boo is Vietnamese so I’m trying to absorb as much as I can through you~! Hoping for more content. So far I’m still struggling to learn 7 and 10 cause I can’t get the tones right lol.
But how relatable ALL of this is! I get just as frustrated when I make a huge pot of sketti and wind up eating it myself, my mouth doesn't mind, my hips do 😂 We all have those days, thanks for being in your feelings with us ❤ the Vietnamese is so elegant and just mesmerizing to listen to! Have a better day beautiful!
It’s true sis, as we get older, it’s not quantity, but quality we seek. Our family and kids can be our friends lol. Hubby and I moved away from family after he was stationed in another state. At first, I was really sad to leave everything behind, my family, friends, etc. One thing I really disliked was the idea of raising a family away from our families since we are so close to ours. It has been an interesting journey so far, but we finally are settling in. I thought I would feel more homesick, but as a busy full-time working mom, I’m too busy to relax to feel too sad. We always look forward to when family comes to visit or when we can travel to visit. It will definitely be harder with a toddler now as he throws his temper tantrums. I am so grateful to my work colleagues, but I vent to them on a daily basis, which is so needed to keep my sanity! I’m always grateful of my awesome work families. We are definitely here for you! It’s so important to share your frustrations even when it’s about your immediate family!
I love this! can we please have more of these videos please? it’s so fascinating to hear you speak another language whilst watching the same awesome content!
Im born and raised in VN but live in another country, and while I normally enjoying your videos, these ones where you speak Vietnamese comfort me a lot in a weird way. Also its kinda fun to see how your way of speaking changes between languages😂
I love hearing Vietnamese being spoken. When I was little, our next door neighbour and the one next to them were both Vietnamese. So I heard it a lot when we would play at each other’s houses.
This was amazing. Your Vietnamese voice is so soothing. Or was it you being in your feels. Anyway I would watch more of these. And I would love to come over for bun reu......and that one vegetable....lol is it crunchy?
I'd eat your bún riêu so fast, chi Alissa!!! I hate it when some days it feels like everybody is against you. But we're here 🫂 whenever you feel like venting
Ever since I first saw you make it, I’ve been wanting to try bun rieu! I can only find one restaurant in my city that sells it, and I went this weekend only to find out they were closed for vacation! I can’t wait til they’re back open. Love your content, thanks for sharing!
I can't believe bún riêu is something they don't like... it's my favourite thing so I can't ever understand 😅😅I hope your friends could enjoy your cooking with you!! These little speaking only Vietnamese videos are kind of nice, makes me want to relearn how to speak the native tongue 👍
I grew up eating bun rieu so I’m shocked your kids don’t like it but maybe they’re grow to like it! I have a cousin who’s a picky eater (he’s 8) and he likes bun rieu with just noodles and broth and maybe meatballs if he’s feeling it. He will not even consider eating tomatoes, tofu, or any of the yummy toppings. I hope your friends get to enjoy your food, otherwise imma fly my ass over to TX to join you lol! Thanks for sharing that recipe too, I’ll have to try it.
I feel you , when you cook and nobody appreciates it. And you end up just eating alone with all your feelings. I think it's good you let those emotions out and you talk to us like your friends♥️
I feel her when I’m cooking the food i grew up with and that food is meant to be shared so now it’s kinda mixed sad and nostalgic to eat these type of dishes….😅 i feel like im her and i wanna ask friends over just to eat what i cooked. 😂
I've never had it but it looks so good. I would definitely try it with you so don't feel too bad if they're not into it. The main reason why I want to try it is because I see how much you're enjoying each bite. Hopefully your boys grow into it as they see that. 😁
Man this video was such perfect timing for me so unexpectedly haha..I'm 32 and my priorities are totally shifting. This stage of life has been a weird mix of feeling like a weirdo for choosing the things i love over people pleasing and watching some friends drift away because I don't drink away my weekends anymore...but then also realizing I'm the happiest I've ever been. Thanks for sharing a real moment, I came to giggle and instead got some much needed validation.
I relate to this so much! My husband is American while I'm Vietnamese, if I made my favorite Vietnamese dish, it would be mostly me eating it. Same with friends, hangouts and stuffs. My husband and I moved to NC as we enjoy the living standards here a lot but we have 1-2 friends after 4 years of being here. Having friends in your 30s-40s is tough
