neji has the rotation...an impenetrable chakra barrier..lee would've crashed against it, and his own momentum and power would've increased the damage..basically he would've killed himself..naruto only survived the impact due to kurama's chakra healing and shielding him as well..the question is..would Neji have been able to activate the rotation in time? and on that you're probably right..if lee can blitz him before he activates the rotation, a punch or kick from 4-5 gates lee would destroy him.

In that room it would have been impossible for anyone to fight the tailed beast, except for Guy, which would probably have forced him to use 6 of the gates. Apart from that, if the rest of the sand Shinobi (and that one Sound guy) wanted to intervene Kakashi could solo all of them. Plus, with the support of Kurenai and Asuma, it'd be no dif. Furthermore, Guy still had the 7th gate to use if the situation called for it, for instance if Orochimaru appeared, or if Kabuto came back. On a second thought, yeah it'd be pretty cool if Lee knocked out Gaara.
I really cried after seeing this fight again. Rock Lee. the guy with no Ninjutsu or Genjutsu. But proved to everyone that with hard work and dedication that everything is possible. A real fighter, a beast. It's kinda sad how they made him bad after the Kimmimaru fight.

This fight is so stacked. It is unreal. For me definitely the best fight there ever was in any anime, so many creative and unexpected moments. Noone ever thought that Lee would be able to corner Gaara this much. Lee would smack any genin in the room even without the need to use any gates. Not even Kyuubi Chakra Naruto has any chance against him.
Gaara's armour here is obviously ''plot armor'' and not his sand armor. There is no way it could protect him from those massive punches and kicks. Gaara should not have won this. Certainly not in this way. With the tailed beast popping out, it would probably a different story. But hey, it is what it is.
The little details of showing Lee running and jumping off of the wall when he's in his 5th gate form and literally air juggling Gaara is impressive. It shows the watcher just how incredible his movements are and that he's not just Teleporting like Dragonball Z
sadly hes one pony trick that does very well but need very very long vacation per lotus he does , also character combat side he have serious lack of depth compare to say garaa would actually be the one deserve series with his high depth personality and sand very cool skills with unlimited potential as he can shape it to countless shapes

The thing about those weights that I love is not only did those weights restrict his speed, they also restricted the kinetic force his body could put into every hit. Essentially turning every punch and kick from him from the hit you’d expect of someone to his level of training to a literal Mack truck ramming your face. Which makes two arguments on whether even if the sand could keep up with him, could it even withstand the force when it caught up. It was literally the perfect foil for that type of defense.

It's so frustrating seeing Lee get shafted over and over while fighting Gaara. No matter how strong the attack, there's always some bullshit mechanism that saved him. Kishimoto really messed up Rock Lee for no reason other than hype Gaara as an overly powerful opponent.
I think this fight was masterfully done. It did give Lee his shine and made us want to see more of him. While still showing us the threat that Gaara posed. Both goals were achieved in this one fight. And the fact that so many people are still going back to this fight after havijg seen it hundreds of times at least proves just how great it is. And lets not forget how many other instances Lee fought some powerhouse and won (many of the Naruto movies are coming to mind.)

Lee could have won and at the same time kept Gaara as a major threat and making him going to the next step of chunnin exams, let’s say that after the fight the referee said something that forbidden Jutsus weren’t allowed or that specific jutsu (the inner gates) and made Lee being disqualified, granted, it would be bullshit but it could work to give Lee a huge victory, and Gaara remained in the exam and showing that he is a great threat and indeed it could prove that in many cases hard work can defeat genius
Sadly, Kishimoto took the easy way, fucked Lee’s character and ruined one of the best fight scenes in anime and manga

That's false. The sand that was protecting him was his mother Karura's despite Gaara originally thinking so, but Rasa clearly stated in Naruto chapter 547 pg 15 that it was his mother Karura's will. If you don't feel like reading the manga then you can type in on RUclips Gaara vs Rasa.
