I wanted to show the oil pressure gauge and how the relief valve opens when pressure goes up to open the valve. This relief valve is NOT in the oil pump. The MARINE version of the 356 places the pressure relief valve on the line that you see running under the distributor. Oil flow is like this: Cam driven pump pick it up from the sump, pumps it out of the pump via an external tube along the block (behind the carb.) and up into the oil filter canister, through the oil filter and out to an oil cooler (on top of the bell housing) then out through the tube under the distributor and down into the oil galley. The tube also extends down to the oil pan where there is a relief valve that determines oil pressure. In this test, I have placed a gauge in the rear of the block right side oil galley. In theory, this is where the last place the oil will flow and perhaps where the pressure could be lowest.

Super awesome my friend!!! I am starting a shop that specializes in pre-war race cars and essentially any sports cars that were equipped with distributors or magnetos. Great work and good job. Where are you guys located?
