Yes. Boxing matches are officiated by three judges. In the event that one boxer doesn't win by knocking out his opponent by the time all the rounds in the match are over, the judges determine which boxer wins the match by how many rounds each boxer won. The boxer who wins the most rounds by landing more punches and/or by knocking down his opponent the most times wins the fight. In this case, the fight was so close that one judge determined that Rocky won the fight, and a second judge determined that Apollo won the fight. So it was a "split decision" between those two judges, thus the winner was decided by the third judge, who determined that Apollo had won.
Reactors always seem to misjudge Mickey and say he's an opportunist. Paulie is the opportunist, Mickey is the Angel of the neighbourhood, he's the one striving to GIVE opportunity to the downtrodden people of his class. That's why he rejected Rocky when he started to work for the loan shark, he knew where that road lead and that it was a waste of life, and he only had so much energy to give. My boxing coach came from a privileged life but in his career he visited and trained in many of those 'real' gyms that create the best fighters. They are harsh proving grounds but they have established order and rules, unlike the streets. On the streets you could literally be chased down and killed by a pack of dogs, that's how lawless and wild some of these places are. Mike Tyson used to rob old ladies of their pension money in elevators when he was 13-14 years old, before he went into boxing. Boxing gyms and guys like Mickey have saved countless young men who are hopelessly lost in our forgotten neighbourhoods by giving them a sense of pride and something to strive for and against. Rocky admires Mickey and grows to love him as a father in later movies, because that's really what he is to so many.
There is a certain degree of opportunism there with Mickey though. It's good because it makes it more realistic. Everyone has flaws, problems, selfish desires etc...
I told my wife "Rocky is about a girl named Adrian" and she was in. And by telling her that, she said it made the ending "ADRIAAANN!" that much more impactful. She even noticed how Rocky didnt care about the result of the fight and immediately starts yelling for his lady! "it was all about Adrian the whole time." she said, tears in our eyes. If The Notebook is the quintessential "chick flick" Rocky is the Guy Flick counter part. Both amazing movies about pure love.
The Rocky films are among the best of Boxing/Sports films and Love stories. Sylvester Stallone very much deserved the Oscars he was awarded for this film. The big dog, Butkis, was his real life dog that he had to sell to someone for a few hundred bucks during filming because the studio didn't want to give him much money considering he was essentially a nobody in Hollywood but after the film was released he wanted his dog back and the guy wanted 10 times what he paid for him. The backstory of what it took for Sylvester Stallone to make this film is an underdog story in it's own right. I think you'll love the whole franchise of Rocky films.
Creed won the fight in a split decision: Since there was no knockout, 2 judges scored the fight for Apollo and 1 said that Rocky had won on points in what was then "going the distance "-15 rounds-(Now 12 rounds) Stallone got the idea of Rocky when he attended a fight between Heavyweight Champion Muhammad Ali and Chuck Wepner, an unknown fighter from New Jersey. Ali wanted to give Wepner, a "nobody ", a shot at the greatest title in the world. Shockingly, Wepner went 14 rounds with the champ before being knocked out and he even knocked Ali down, though most people think Ali slipped. The fight was not close and Ali was basically giving the crowd, and a worldwide TV audience, a show. Still, Wepner did very well and Stallone thought: "What if that fight had been closer"? The "Rocky" characters are based on Ali, the greatest fighter in the world and a hell of an entertainer, and Wepner, who was nick named the "Bayonne Bleeder". Stallone shopped the script around but initially no studio would let him be Rocky. If you want the full fledged Rocky/Apollo antagonism, you MUST watch the sequel, Rocky 2! Great reaction!!!
I can tell you love a good romance, you ain’t seen nothing yet, Rocky is more of a love story than a boxing story. Can’t wait to see you go through these. New sub!!!
In addition to the Oscars it won, Rocky also had nominations for Best Actor (Sylvester Stallone as Rocky), Best Actress (Talia Shire as Adrian), two for Best Supporting Actor (Burt Young as Paulie and Burgess Meredith as Mickey), Best Original Screenplay (which was written by Stallone), and Best Original Song ("Gonna Fly Now", the song heard during the training montage which ends with Rocky running up the steps of the museum).
"Rocky" has the same message as The Odyssey: among all the possible lives and achievements for a man, the greatest is that of genuine, mutual, and vulnerable love.
Talia Shire is very good, and maybe underrated because she is usually in a supporting role: you have seen her before as Connie Corleone in 'The Godfather'. She is Francis Ford Coppola's sister, and Nicolas Cage's aunt (Nicolas Cage's birth name is Nicolas Coppola).
The reason there wasn't a confrontation with Apollo and the reason the result of the fight was made into background noise is because it wasn't about Creed or winning. It was about one man proving to himself that he wasn't just another bum. He trained for himself. He won according to his own standards. If you watch part 2, you'll see that he feels like he doesn't have anything to prove.
Also part of the reason there isn't a confrontation is because Creed isn't a bad guy. Most of the arrogance is really just him promoting, hyping the upcoming fight. You can see him being nice to his team and to the promoter (even when he is frustrated with him and the situation with Green.) If Green hadn't been injured and Rocky had been coming in to be a sparring partner Apollo and he likely would have been friends from the get go.
In addition when he gets knocked down in round 13 or 14 and everyone is sure 'That's it!', even Mick is telling him to stay down; I have always thought when he gets back up there and then finished the fight that he had done what he came to do. Also the look of shock on Creed's face when he turns around and sees Rocky getting back up is perfect cinema.
Rocky is my favorite movie of all time! I'm so glad you liked it. The puppies in a pet store was also more a product of its time. I mean it's still done today in movies sometimes but there is a lot more awareness about how pet stores and puppy mills should not be supported by buying from them and you should always get a dog from a shelter. I agree with that 100% In the 70's, getting a dog from a dog pound was still a thing but getting a dog from a pet store, it wasn't as widely known then how bad that was. The dog, Butkis, was Stallone's actual dog. At one point in his life Stallone was so broke he couldn't afford to feed himself, let alone his dog. So he sold his dog to someone who could afford to take care of him. When he sold the script for Rocky, he tracked down the guy he sold his dog to and bought him back and paid a lot more than he sold him for. Also, those turtles are still alive and Stallone still has them! Best Regards!
“At the end of the day, 'Rocky' is a love story, and he could never have reached the final bell without Adrian.” - Sylvester Stallone. You understood what Sly meant the movie to be about when he wrote the script. 😀
the inspiration for this movie came from former champ Muhammad Ali and a fight he had against a journeyman fighter named Chuck Wepner.Wepner was a scrapper and gave Ali more trouble than expected.btw--the drinking of the raw eggs started a fad(that hopefully was short lived).
Lots of first-time reactors to this movie get caught up in the split-decision issue. You wisely, and quickly, realized that the fight isn't the thing; it's the story of Rocky and Adrian.
One of the greatest films ever written. Thank God Stallone had the heart and brains to hold on to this film and not sell it to the wrong person. So many people would've sold it when they were broke but he believed in him self and did it his way. God bless him.
Thanks for speaking out about adopting strays. I have had many cats and dogs over the years, and all of them were either stray or from a shelter. That's only the right thing to do
4:45 "She's very shy. I want to see her blossom, breaking out of her shell... like a turtle. She's like a turtle in her shell." And that, children, is what we call symbolism! It makes for a great screenplay.
When I was young they had to warn children not to drink raw eggs like Rocky did because it was dangerous. And yes, I was one of the children that did it. I can confirm that it tastes pretty bad and feels even worst going down.
"Rocky" won best picture at the Oscars, beating out "All the President's Men", "Bound for Glory", "Network" and "Taxi Driver". It also won best director and best film editing.
Atta girl Mike! There are two things about this movie that people forget. 1. Rocky loses the fight. But that's not why he was there. He just wanted to go the distance and prove to himself that it was possible. 2. This movie really isn't about the fight. It's a love story about two people who don't seem to have anything in common. "Other than Paulie" And you, clever girl, got one and a half of those things. Three judges voting and it's two against one. I was impressed with Rocky's sprint speed at the end of his training sequence. At the end of the fight when Creed told Rocky there wouldn't be a rematch we knew for sure there would be. Hence Rocky I I.
This movie is actually a love story between a man and a woman. The boxing part is just who he was. If you notice also he was part boxer & part leg breaker working for a loan shark. Rocky's girlfriend also played the sister in the movie " The Godfather ".
It’s always hilarious to me when Adrian enters the ring after the fight and the first thing Rocky says to her is “Hey, where’s your hat?” Lmao 😂 going through all of that and that was Rocky’s first thought.
My wrestling coach used to say, "Be a gritter not a quitter." The point of this fight was that Rocky was still standing at the end of the fight even though he was basically an amateur going against a world champion.

I remember seeing at the theater in my teens, one of the very few movies my Dad went with us , all time favorite thanks for sharing your thoughts and reaction
Adrian played by Talia Shire is the sister of famous director Francis Ford Coppola famous for The Godfather films and other movies. She didn't want to be known for that so she used a stage name.
This movie is probably one of the most amazing movies of my generation. This was unheard of back in the day. Such a good movie on such a small budget and the best acting from all the cast. Recently the best call back in another show was in The Mandalorian. In the last episode of the first season Mando looks at Carl Weathers character and says he cannot take off his helmet because of his creed. Everyone that knows Rocky just smiled at that scene. There is only one Creed we know. It is also a good sequel to the Rocky film series.
This film was up against some of the best movies ever made. This movie beat Network, my personal favorite movie. It actually deserved best movie that year. That is saying something.
Great reaction. This is one of the best movies of all time. Sylvester Stallone adopted the turtles, thier names are Cuff and Link. He still has them to this day.
My grandmother did the same when we were sick. Raw egg with sugar and I liked it to. She also made me drink the eggs like rocky as a child cuz I was the only one in the family that was skinny.
29:12 Exactly right. Its not about the fight. notice at the end, when they announce that Apollo wins...the camera spends 1 second on him if that..... instead all Rocky and Adrian care about is each other. This is a love story.
6:05 I highly suspect that your partner is already very proud of you. From watching your videos and listening to your commentary, you are an admirable person with a good moral compass.
Did you ever notice that Adrian was played by the actress (Talia Shire) who was Connie Corleone in The Godfather? She’s also Francis Ford Coppola’s sister. You really need to watch Godfather II, also. 👍
One of the best underdog stories ever made as well. Even though we're meant to root for Rocky, I personally love Apollo Creed more. The guy really loves America, believes in the American Dream, and never thinks of himself as a victim during his character arc in the coming movies (something Colin Kaepernick needs to learn). He might be a little self-serving and has an ego problem, but he isn't evil or a bad guy. Apollo Creed is the hero we need in today's world. Fun Fact: During his audition, Carl Weathers was sparring with Sylvester Stallone and accidentally punched him on the chin. Stallone told Weathers to calm down, as it was only an audition, and Weathers said that if he was allowed to audition with a 'real' actor, not a stand-in, he would be able to do a lot better. Director John G. Avildsen smiled and told Weathers that Stallone was the real actor (and the writer). Weathers looked at Stallone thoughtfully for a moment, and said: "Well, maybe he'll get better." Stallone immediately offered him the role.
Would have been a nice, informative bit of movie trivia if you hadn't felt the need to insert your politics into it. Not everyone agrees with your assessment - which you very well know - so why you put it in your comment is beyond me, unless you just want to grab the spotlight. Can't we just keep it about movies, which after all, are about escapism?
@@Finians_Mancave How did he insert politics into it? He stated a FACT about Colin Kaepernick. I know you want a world where everyone thinks the same but that isn't going to happen.
@@tider77 The statement about Colin Kaepernick is inappropriate. Apollo Creed is a fictional creation by Sylvester Stallone. Neither Creed nor Stallone experienced the racial hatred that Colin Kaepernick continues to endure. Perhaps BigGator5 "needs to understand" racial injustices do exist in the United States of America, and speaking out against those injustices is not bad.
@@tider77 It's only a "fact" if you're a conservative. If we keep this going long enough some liberals will jump in for the other side(It's already happened!, lol!). This is why I called him on it. No reason to bring up Kaepernick at all when comparing a FICTIONAL CHARACTER. Of course, it's political!
@@richardsanders4567 Why was it inappropriate? He only stated the truth and surely your old enough to know that facts don't care about your feelings. And do you know Carl Weathers? Did he tell you that he never experienced racial hatred? How about Stallone? Have you met him also? Italians are also racial discriminated against by some. What you probably "need to understand" is that Kaepernick made more money being a "social justice warrior" than he did being a football player. At some point every players career ends. Colin's career ended early because he sucks. And I hate to break it to you pal but racial injustices have always existed and will always exist unfortunately but how long will certain few be victims? It's been beyond about time for some to drop that crutch, put on their big boy pants and come on into the 21st century with the rest of us and stop playing the victim.
Kogel Mogel is delicious, especially when made properly, chilled, with sugar, honey, vanilla, everyone always gets surprised by this movie. and it doesn't matter if rocky wins, the point is he goes the distance.
He didn't want to fool around before fighting because there's an old wise tale that a man gets weak from orgasming during sex so they go without sex during training
The dog, Butkus, was Stallone's dog in real life. That is why he got him instead of one of the puppies. Also, if you like boxing movies you should watch "The Champ" which was the popular boxing movie at the time "Rocky" came out.
It won Oscars for best picture, best director, and best editing. Stallone lost for best actor to Peter Finch (check out Peter Finch wins Oscar)and best screenplay.
The movies Rocky beat out: 1. All the President's Men -- a huge movie, very popular, starring Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford about Watergate scandal 2. Bound for Glory (never heard of it) 3. Network - another very popular movie about how media was getting out of control, starring Faye Dunaway and William Holden and Ned Beatty 4. Taxi Driver - Robert Deniro's big first movie, also starred Jodie Foster Clip: ruclips.net/video/sUrSr6Ga6i0/видео.html
Network was the best film of 1976. It's one of the best movie scripts ever written, and might be thee best. However, Rocky is such a sentimental story, which mirrored Sylvester Stallone's underdog rise to fame, that the Oscar voters just couldn't resist.
There are stronger and weaker films in the series but they ALL have their moments and are worth watching including the "Creed" series which is part of the franchise as well. I definitely have favorites. 1 and 2 are my favorites, and the one named "Rocky Balboa" which is the sixth, and the first of the Creed films".
Really fun reaction video. You know what’s as amazing an underdog story as the story of Rocky. The story of Sylvester Stallone getting Rocky made. That story in itself is the unlikeliest of stories of an underdog with dogged determination. Check out this video of inspirational speaker Tony Robbins telling the story of Sylvester Stallone and everything he did and endured in order to get the film Rocky made and realize his dream. The dog in the film, Butkus, is also of crucial significance, not only in the film, but in Stallone’s personal life. The film Rocky would go on to win the Oscar for best picture. The story is told here. The video is under ten minutes. ruclips.net/video/pC0jv52LbFo/видео.html
Rocky 1 and 2 are really one long movie, 3 is still also a drama. 4 is the action movie, 5 is the least good but still not bad. Balboa goes back to its roots and Creed are the spiritual successors. And They're all great
Good observations. This never felt like a boxing film to me either. It's kind of weird in that there's a lot of levels to it. I may be wrong about this but that lingering focus on the christ painting above the ring in the very beginning maybe a kind of metaphor for the whole story. Rocky is a good guy kind of stripped of dignity and everything and at the end his character goes through a type of crucifixion in the ring getting beaten all broken up and finally losing yet strangely enough, winning. I maybe crazy too in thinking this. Also it mainly seems to be about perseverance and keeping your core humanity in the face of all odds, bad friends, corrupt systems, to finally realize that love is more important than some superficial worldly endeavor. In the end it doesn't really matter who won, the winner is announced as an incidental thing almost off-screen while Rocky turns his back on all the noise to call out to what and who really matters to him. Yeah, it's a love story. The other ones.....well.....they're about boxing and stuff.
This was a love story between a man and a woman. The boxing was just a small part of it. Remember that he also worked for a loan shark to make ends meet.
@16:45...the caption *you* added? says, "Rocky, now your payday will be $150.000." Ahhhhhh...there's an extra zero there. Should be a comma not a decimal. Hehehe...150 dollars vs 150 thousand dollars...there is a large discrepancy there and I thought you mighta been confused as to how much money was on the table here:)
Great reaction - Creed won by split decision meaning two judges scored it for him and one gave it to Rocky. Hopefully you continue the series!

So it was a "split decision" between those two judges, thus the winner was decided by the third judge, who determined that Apollo had won.
Rocky is not a boxing movie. It's a love story. You can see, as their relationship grows, how that love inspires each of them to grow as a person.
Exactly what I tell everyone. And remember , he also worked for a loan shark to make ends meet.
Adrian's arc along side Rocky's has always been a foundation to this movie.
The conversation on the beach.. A man with a wife like Adrian is a lucky man.

Rocky & Adrian are without a doubt, top 10 film couples of all time.
Their relationship develops and really starts to blossom as the series goes on. The relationship alone makes it worth watching the first four movies.
Stallone named his dog 'Butkus" after the famous Chicago Bears linebacker Dick Butkus.
4:45 "She's very shy. I want to see her blossom, breaking out of her shell... like a turtle. She's like a turtle in her shell."

Adrian played by Talia Shire is the sister of famous director Francis Ford Coppola famous for The Godfather films and other movies. She didn't want to be known for that so she used a stage name.
i really do love watching your reactions... another great one.. thanks
My favorite boxer is also Tommy Hillfinger.
Lol 🤣🤣🤣 they should be high quality
'Maybe I'm confusing al pacino'
Robert de Niro actually...
Those turtles are still alive. Stallone has them as pets. Over 50 years old
I really liked this reaction. Thought your comments was spot on. You should watch nr 2-4. They are equally good. 🙂
Not sure if I'll do the others (I might watch them for myself though), but I'm happy you enjoyed the video!
@@MichalZismanReactions Please do the others!
@Michal Zisman watch them for yourself?? That’s selfish but whatever.
Stallone still has those turtles.
My grandmother did the same when we were sick. Raw egg with sugar and I liked it to. She also made me drink the eggs like rocky as a child cuz I was the only one in the family that was skinny.
Grandmas tend to have weird ways to treat all kinds of conditions haha!
I love that you get this is more of a love story than a sports movie. ❤️
11:17 Keep watching the series of films... "little marie" shows up again in a later movie
Great reaction.
Great Reaction!
Love your Reaction.. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Stallone kept the turtles and they are in Creed 40 years later. The dog is also his.
Did you ever notice that Adrian was played by the actress (Talia Shire) who was Connie Corleone in The Godfather? She’s also Francis Ford Coppola’s sister. You really need to watch Godfather II, also. 👍
Ohhhh I did not recognize her!
Eye of the tiger song isn't until rocky 3
Weathers looked at Stallone thoughtfully for a moment, and said: "Well, maybe he'll get better."
Stallone immediately offered him the role.
Exactly! In the end he's still standing when the final bell rings, like he said 🙂
He didn't want to fool around before fighting because there's an old wise tale that a man gets weak from orgasming during sex so they go without sex during training
The battle in this movie is about himself. The battle in the second movie is with creed.
On the sequel, he actually takes her to the zoo LOL
very entertaining review! Great job.
The dog, Butkus, was Stallone's dog in real life. That is why he got him instead of one of the puppies.
Also, if you like boxing movies you should watch "The Champ" which was the popular boxing movie at the time "Rocky" came out.
The result of the fight didn't matter....Rocky went the distance.
That's all he wanted.
Rocky was one egg away from the title
A great love story set in the world of boxing
Exactly!
These movies are like a soap opera. Recurring characters step in as Rocky evolves.
You bet more rivalry in Rocky II and III and of course all the others.
17:51 Of course it does. You only get one life to live and make your decisions.
And you will enjoy Rocky 2 much more😉
It won Oscars for best picture, best director, and best editing. Stallone lost for best actor to Peter Finch (check out Peter Finch wins Oscar)and best screenplay.
The movies Rocky beat out:
1. All the President's Men -- a huge movie, very popular, starring Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford about Watergate scandal
2. Bound for Glory (never heard of it)
3. Network - another very popular movie about how media was getting out of control, starring Faye Dunaway and William Holden and Ned Beatty
4. Taxi Driver - Robert Deniro's big first movie, also starred Jodie Foster

I really liked All the President's Men, but the others I still haven't seen.
Network was the best film of 1976.
It's one of the best movie scripts ever written, and might be thee best.
However, Rocky is such a sentimental story, which mirrored Sylvester Stallone's underdog rise to fame, that the Oscar voters just couldn't resist.
Fun movie. Love the street scenes of old Philly, quite a time warp compared to today. Good reaction.
24:08 LOL
LOL Especially for you
raw egg + sugar....throw in some flour and butter and you got yourself a cookie!
Stallone wrote the screenplay in three days, not forty.
Wait til you see 2 and 3!
Rocky II is just as good.
19:52 mogul kogul in Lithuanian :D i like that :D
There are stronger and weaker films in the series but they ALL have their moments and are worth watching including the "Creed" series which is part of the franchise as well. I definitely have favorites. 1 and 2 are my favorites, and the one named "Rocky Balboa" which is the sixth, and the first of the Creed films".
more eactor misconceptions 1. rocky movies are love story movies. the song eye of the tiger does not appear til rocky 3.
And They're all great
🥊🥊Yo, Michal. How you doin'?
@@guitarman8462 totally agree.
Damn lol.
