Insurance in US is always crazy to me. Here they would need to prove the Tree was in need of taking down, if it was found to be healthy and fell without warning they would cover damages caused to other houses or property. Couldn't imagine paying into something then having to sue them to get them to pay.
Yea, this story wreaks. I believed it up until the bit about insurance. That's not how liability works. The carrier would literally have to prove that the property owner knew that the tree was a hazard (like, documented notices type proof). Maybe it was a shady insurer or an adjuster that didn't know what they were doing, but that's definitely not how it works from a legal standpoint. Even without that, the property owner could file a liability claim under their own policy and let the insurance companies argue it out.
They only apply that logic to state or government owned property. For example, if a pot hole opens up and it is reported to the state that it could cause an issue and they do nothing, if that pot hole becomes a sink hole, then the city liable for all the damages that happen next. (If you get the reference, bravo)
@7shortofperfection You are correct, but this is how companies work in the US. They threaten with legal action with an illegal incident and if you have a lawyer, you can fight it out. But we also have a system that says "if you don't fight back, it is an admission of guilt." Heck, if you ignore it, it is still an admission of guilt. @@boblee7998 No, no. Sorry if it sounded ambiguous. I hoped the owners would be able to reclaim the part that the neighbor stole from them using the corrupt surveyor.
I would just built that fence on the property that has already been marked as mine from the surveyor. Get a copy of that survey. And watch that hag ruin herself with petty delight.
they kind of cant. they claim the land, she sues them for the 200k or whatever for the insurance claim that she wouldnt have been liable for. before they can claim back the land, they need to wait for her to sell the property.
@@TehKazlehoff I'm not a lawyer but I guess she'd still be liable. The ownership of the land is 'hers' until the fraud is proven, which means she was responsible for the tree during the timeframe of the accident. When they recover ownership later, they shouldn't be retroactively responsible for something that was under someone else's control. That's because they can't legally occupy that land until the previous surveyor is proven wrong.
The only thing that would concern me about continuing to go after the property is if it is found to be yours...will EN trying to recoup the $200,000 she had to pay for the damage when the tree fell on the car?
Exactly my thought; although on the other hand, then she would have to explain the original survey results and either be fined and/or arrested for bribing the surveyor.
And they could argue that if the Land where on the property they cared for they would have talen care of the tree (even they didn't think of it before the Storm, but can't proof that so easily) But because EN demanded the property they couldn't take care of it.
Reminds me of a story my mom told me that, after buying the appartment where I grew up, the previous owner came crying with regret of selling, but no even offering the money she got back. Since my parents weren't going to gift them the money and leave, she spread rummors to everyone in the building about us stealing the place, so it was an awkwards start for them. Like what the hell? 🤨
So their state has a law that requires a surveyor to give back every dollar they have made for the past 10 years if they make a single mistake and they expect them to pay for another surveyor... What exactly would they have left to pay them with?
@@kokohaleAnd if you're qualified you can get professional insurance to cover it. Different bit of property law, but when I bought my house, I had a full structural survey done - part of the point was to get a clean hill of health and have confidence buying it, but part of the point was the fact that the guy giving 10/10 was insured to pay the cost of anything he got wrong.
No, 10 years is the time up until the claim can be made, the money paid for their services should be reimbursed to the affected client and potentially the client could sue for damages this could include money not earned if the property was rented or something like that.
Story does a good job of emphasizing everything wrong with small town life in the USA. I am not sure if you are getting the gravity of the situation, tiny mistake would mean that you would lose all of your money from the last ten years and be 100s of thousands of dollars in guaranteed debt.
Well, the law seems bit unreal to begin with, but if there actually is such a law, its not for "tiny mistakes" its for bribes and purposeful misleading. For example in my country the allowed mistake for boarders is almost 8 inches in urban areas when our tools usually have 0.03 to 0.07 inch precision.( An 8 inch mistake obviously would be considered bad work but well its allowed) Point I want to make is- honest field survey specialist should have nothing to worrie about.@@Bababooyii
@@BababooyiiYeah I know of lawyers who don’t take on certain cases for the fear of implication or does not align with their moral values or even their mental health. As someone who lives in a rural area next to a corn farm on the left and has an apple orchard behind us I completely understand the property line thing. Ok for the old lady trying to claim a house her son did t pay taxes on and got taken after it was foreclosed on…it’s beyond crazy she thought she had a leg to stand on… her house wasn’t stolen it was lost by her family/ the son or grand son that got arrested….🤷♂️🤦🏾♂️
I mean showing off your guns are a nice flex, but what good would it be if the "peacekeeper" shot you before you could fetch them? Even if it's just a bluff they guessed who he was. What if he was some insane intruder wanting money for crack? Also, literally the whole neighborhood warned you about Karen, why the hell is his first response to her whining not to ask around, but to pull up and threaten you?
Cause hes a simp. Woman is already known for being a pain in the ass and regularly starts rumors and he still decides to believe her? He warned OP but let Karen spread her rumors even though he KNEW were lies. Dude is a simp with nothing to do and tries to look cool while acting like the cops he (probably) hates so much.
ES has (depending on the state) a 1 to 3-year period during which he can/could petition the tax assessor for his county and pay PO back whatever he bid on the house and the back taxes. If PO sold the house during this period, a judge would likely re-deed the house back to ES so long as he was not out of the rescission period. I don't think property taxes should exist. If you have owned a home for generations, it should not be the case that if you forget to pay taxes for a year, someone pays the government the $1500 you didn't pay and then gets to own the home. What's more, you can "overbid" where if someone owes some amount of back taxes, say $500, someone can bid $22,500. To then get your property back, you have to pay them $22,500 and ONLY after 6-8 months do you get that amount in excess of the $500.
Flippers are very wary of these types of properties because if the person does petition the tax assessor during this period and pays the overbid/back taxes, you're not entitled to compensation for any rennovations/repairs you've done during the period that you "owned" the home.
To be honest, the laws (They would have had to pay 200k for the tree as the insurance doesnt pay for it, that there is seemingly no real documentation who owns property, no legal certainty, a random stranger just walking up to them with a gun,...) Just seem dystopian to me
Imagine how bad peacekeeper must've felt, he basically bullied them into not spreading rumors and convinced a lot of people they were liars because of a house dispute only to find out he was the liar all along and had forced two normal people to live his lie.
Mr peacekeeper sounds like an unhinged nosey guy looking for an excuse to claim self defense. Show up at my house waving a gun and I’d be the one explaining how it was self defense.
This story has all kinds of issues. The main one being that they gave the land away to their neighbor by agreeing in a legal situation that she was liable for the tree falling and not them. Now if they ever try to fight that they own the land they’ll have to pay back that $200,000 that the neighbor payed since they’ll be agreeing that they really were responsible for that, and chose to falsely have the neighbor pay while knowing they owned the land.
Why does this have so many likes? The dude literally threatened a family with a gun because a crazy Karen said that they stole her house with no proof. He's a psycho who just felt guilty.
It is frustrating how important it is to have social skills, be social, and "know the right people". At the same time, this story just made me want to be more invisible, more isolated, and never shop at a traditional store, only using delivery services like Amazon. If this is how much of a crap show it is, being in a community, and having just 1 person not like you, and spread rumors, and just one person being an incompetent, self appointed mediator. Then I'd rather live deep in the wilderness, only venturing out for a P.O. Box. People are just not worth the trouble & stress. And the other issue is, I just want to be left alone, but degenerates among us, and in positions of authority, will always come up with an excuse to bother me, or steal from me, and I will be vilified for being defending myself, or being repulsive, no matter how politely. And even though I keep to myself, and mind my own business, not harming or cheating anyone. It is so easy for a SWAT team, or a rally of pitchfork & torches to come for my home, all because of one or a few stupid, wicked, or entitled people. I hate humanity. I hate that you need a large amount of friends, firepower, or money, just to guarantee protection or what you want in this world.
That place sounds horrible to live just a punch of clicks like back in high school believing what they want and treating new people horrible. The "peacekeeper" sounds like a law suit waiting to happen.
I wish I lived in a place with Peacekeeper type guys. Would be nice to have a community like that. I don't have a real issue with police; it's more the idea of having members nearby that can keep an eye on things and show up if need be.
Mr Peacekeaper would have had a RUDE awakening the first time he showed up in my driveway with a gun... They actually made a very smart decision inviting him in with a beer but still, showing up to a house YOU bought and some jackass that thinks he runs the town shows up.... Lmao awww helll naw
My suggestion - let the piece of property go. If the OP goes after it, they may very well find that ES agrees they do own it and then sues them for the $200K she paid. That sounds it would be a financial hardship for them and could possibly cause them to lose the house - back to ES. Better to just walk away from that bit of property, and count it a lucky break that the surveyor was dishonest.
Yeah, Mr. Peacekeeper wouldn’t have left the vehicle. You wouldn’t pull a gun on someone in their home without realizing that said home owner has a weapon too. He had no right to do so anyway, it wasn’t his job
EN is partially right, her property was stolen from her. It was stolen by the government through taxes. But the people who bought it for the price of back taxes are the legal owners now. Property taxes should be illegal, it's like paying rent on something that you own.
I kept expecting it to be revealed that the convenience store was not on property allowed for businesses and EN would be sued for it.
That kind of zoning is mostly in urban and suburban areas. In a rural enough area the only restrictions would be based on health hazards and noise pollution instead of commercial issues.

It is not so corrupt that you can't fight back, but damn is it hard if you don't have the proper council and the funds. BUT you could win and pay nothing as the insurance would have to pay everyone anx everything out od pocket.
When wealthy people lose money, they fight dirty.
@@scottsommer9843 that's incorrect though. You aren't liable unless you're negligent and you aren't negligent if you aren't aware there's a problem with the tree
I would assume that this is set in America based on that there are more gun stores then dollar stores
Most likely in tx 😅
Texas *
this is America, where there are more guns than people
Yeah dollar stores really gave it away since thats the u.s. currency.
And they kept saying it’s in x state, and “in our state the laws say that …” and the dollar stores so definitely in the us
that tree coming down right on the disputed property area just when they gave up on it is some wonderful karma
Its amazing to me how people would just stand there and listen the this woman sob story after trying to steal the house from them. Should have told her get off the property or you will call the police on her.
I loved how this one had such a nice setting
Karen neighbor. I was hoping they'd recover the lost land before the end of the story though.
Really? You thought she should be able to take land that didn't actually belong to her? Don't pay ur bills?? Lose ur stuff
@@nonnemo819 That's a good point.
And they could argue that if the Land where on the property they cared for they would have talen care of the tree (even they didn't think of it before the Storm, but can't proof that so easily)
But because EN demanded the property they couldn't take care of it.
What exactly would they have left to pay them with?
loan
The point is deterrence, practically speaking. You're not meant to pay the fine, you're meant to not do the crime at all.
You feel like you need to give a full decade's worth of context for any story you tell, because it's nothing but dysfunction stacked on dysfunction, where armed self-appointed militia show up to kick you out of your house based on nothing but a rumor, where you have to placate and be nice to people who are actively trying to alienate you from the community with false rumors, where people don't actually enforce the law at all. You talk about it and you just sound like someone defending their abusive family.
The while time I thought all of these people sound awful I would rather move than deal with all those people the only reason I'd wanna stay is to win but I don't think it's even worth it
This place sounds like a hell scape to live in...I would have left ASAP
Wait until you hear about big cities in the USA lol even worse
Simple put: Having neighbors stinks.
@@emetantiexactly i don't have any neighbours and I'm living happily without those pesky creatures😂😂😂
As a field survey specialist i find it hard to believe that people wouldn't take up hard jobs, I literally take on anything disputes or not my tools have exceptional accuracy in this they of age. Of course borders are a lot longer and expensive then pre home building work, but still never been worried about any consciences at any point of my 10 year career.
Example, due to mental health issues a man would not take on any ra pe or child related cases because he has a duty to defend his client and he said he wasn’t sure at times if his client was honest or not and knowing he allowed a r a pes or chi ld murderer loose on the street for money didn’t sit well with him.
Nobody would be willing to risk this sort of liability.
Just a thought the surveyor regulations should apply to all cops! Crap would be sorted a lot faster
thank for defining whats a surveyor is and what they do
As someone who lives in a rural area next to a corn farm on the left and has an apple orchard behind us I completely understand the property line thing. Ours is shaped like a rhombus with bushes creating a straight barrier on the right side so when I mow I have to go around the bushes the cut a weird triangle thing that goes just inches from my neighbors driveway. Lot lines are weird.
Moral of the story... I don't want to be a surveyor in your state no matter if it pays 6 figures lol
If a house is the perfect size I needed I would have also brought if it was only 50k and the audacity for en to say the house was her when her son sold it off, and why only now say it her after they fix and put in so much money in it seem fishy
You need to work on your grammar buddy.
This sounds like hell and i wouldve raised my own hell to get en done in. The moment that Surveyor gave the false report i wouldve contacted him about the property lines op had been given and brought it up to whoever i needed to in order to get en done in
I think people telling long stories don't realize how interesting it is to hear from people of different walks of life. it's nice to hear about experiences from around the country and learn more about other North Americans although in this case its not in a good way, but the background is appreciated nonetheless
A.T.L.East the neighborhood came around.
But I would like to hear about that malicious compliance story he mentionned...
Bought house and land for 50k?! WTF. I want to know where this state is, my partner would LOVE to move there LOL.
this was 15 years ago 😭 right during the 2008 recession…
What kind peacekeeper threatens someone with a gun, that's the literal opposite of peace
This is exactly the case for lawyering up
Ok for the old lady trying to claim a house her son did t pay taxes on and got taken after it was foreclosed on…it’s beyond crazy she thought she had a leg to stand on… her house wasn’t stolen it was lost by her family/ the son or grand son that got arrested….🤷♂️🤦🏾♂️
Then the "peacekeeper" would go to jail. Simple. Owning gun is legal not shooting
*AND* you have to pay them interest on the excess sum. In my state it's 8% interest for the first year and 12% on every year after that.
Flippers are very wary of these types of properties because if the person does petition the tax assessor during this period and pays the overbid/back taxes, you're not entitled to compensation for any rennovations/repairs you've done during the period that you "owned" the home.
This story felt like a Movie, I made every character and property in my mind, the Neighborhood 😂😂
On a side note, where do you find said house for 50k-100k? That’s unheard of out here in Hawaii
Jesus. Id have fuckin left this place so fucking quickly
💯👍
I have a feeling this took place in texas 😂
Bro really spends 10 hours a day on Reddit to make these videos.
But i enjoy it
Immagine getting a home for 50k
Ain't no way Mr. Peacekeeper walked up to them house waving a gun around xD
The lawnmower thing is really funny like oh no, you ran over a flag, and instead, it wasn't a flag and costed her alot of money.
The last “Neighborhood Peacekeeper” we had was found decapitated in multiple houses. Mind your own business kids
Finally happy ending
Mr peacekeeper sounds like an unhinged nosey guy looking for an excuse to claim self defense. Show up at my house waving a gun and I’d be the one explaining how it was self defense.
This neighbourhood is giving fallout
In a sane world people would have to prove the tree was in danger of falling before the storm
Call the cops and get a restraining order. And call the cops on him as well. Stand up for you.
You couldn't pay ME to live in that neighbourhood. Jeez.
Mr. Peacekeeper is a nosy neighbor. That's all. It has nothing to do with watching the neighborhood. It's to fuel his insistent need for gossip.
Refunding money for a bad product is bare minimum there's nothing nice about it, and why would there be mold to begin with? Negligence cough cough
Your a good person if you're telling the truth
At some point I read ES as Entitled Shit, and it stuck
It’s weird to think that OP wouldn’t have thought that her fiancé was innocent if it wasn’t recorded
Sounds like Segovia is playing in the background. Nice.
Respect to Mr peacekeeper. He genuinely sounds like a sincere guy 🤝
Actually he sounds like a duche bag but whatever
No it sounds like he has an entire cemetery of skeletons in his closet and is terrified of the cops being anywhere near his house
yeah nah I wouldn't trust the guy coming to my house with a gun over a rumor
Why does this have so many likes? The dude literally threatened a family with a gun because a crazy Karen said that they stole her house with no proof. He's a psycho who just felt guilty.
@@crowfather0249 It's the classic Hero or Savior complex.
Wow, this story was so frustrating it gave me a headache.
That place sounds horrible to live just a punch of clicks like back in high school believing what they want and treating new people horrible. The "peacekeeper" sounds like a law suit waiting to happen.
When he said a neighbor from gulag ohio hell made me giggle
💀

"Mr Peacekeeper" is definitely a George Zimmerman type
If I was OP Id have called the police the first time "Mr Peacekeeper" showed up
Who gave Mr Peacekeeper authority? That guy is annoying af
Love how if you call him "Mr Pacekeeper" he is a nice guy and everything, even if his real name would be Mafia man
You actually destroyed her by being kind as Plankton would say that's diabolical
Id tell mr peacekeeper to stay off my property lol
I wish I lived in a place with Peacekeeper type guys. Would be nice to have a community like that. I don't have a real issue with police; it's more the idea of having members nearby that can keep an eye on things and show up if need be.
Mr Peacekeaper would have had a RUDE awakening the first time he showed up in my driveway with a gun... They actually made a very smart decision inviting him in with a beer but still, showing up to a house YOU bought and some jackass that thinks he runs the town shows up.... Lmao awww helll naw
How is driving up one's driveway with a gun and threatening them 'being reasonable' again? God, I'll never understand Americans...
This is so Florida
Why didn't they ask the bank for it's records of the survey?
My suggestion - let the piece of property go. If the OP goes after it, they may very well find that ES agrees they do own it and then sues them for the $200K she paid. That sounds it would be a financial hardship for them and could possibly cause them to lose the house - back to ES. Better to just walk away from that bit of property, and count it a lucky break that the surveyor was dishonest.
Insurance absolutely pays for damage to other people's property...
That’s long a back story for the following of neighbor from hell
I like these story book like things
You destroyed with kindness
If this is real, OP is a pathetic pushover.
Yeah, Mr. Peacekeeper wouldn’t have left the vehicle. You wouldn’t pull a gun on someone in their home without realizing that said home owner has a weapon too. He had no right to do so anyway, it wasn’t his job
What kind of fever dream was this
This one is going to be very good.
anyone else suspecting this takes place in Louisiana?
Mr Peacekeeper is one wildcard.. Your own local spiderman 😳
Where can I find the vid about the mother's malicious compliance?
EN is partially right, her property was stolen from her. It was stolen by the government through taxes. But the people who bought it for the price of back taxes are the legal owners now. Property taxes should be illegal, it's like paying rent on something that you own.
Mr peacekeeper is a real one 🫡
It's terrible that someone can trash their car driving recklessly and somehow financialy it's someone else problem.
Just wondering why mr peacekeeper didn't want the pilice around the area? Hes suspect very suspect.
I wondered which country this took place.
