@@seth2451 Each class has 3 ascendancy classes. You unlock those by doing challenges ingame. Unlocking them is a given, not hard. You can read about on the net where to find trials of ascendancy. One of the ascendancies of the Marauder class is Chieftain... and for this character build he is using the skill Blade Vortex as his primary ability. Most builds have 1-2 primary abilities and they will be the ones naming the build. In this case. Blade Vortex(the skill) Chieftain(the class)
@@seth2451 Play the game a little to understand the diffferent mechanics. Then use a build to get experience. That is the normal way to do things. Some people like to make their own builds from the start, but it takes longer than trying out a few builds, like this one, first.
regarding SHOCKWAVE TOTEMS if anybody is interested: my Hierophant is level 81 or 82 and I just acquired Astral Projector which turns their nova into a ranged attack. Huuuge quality of life, my skill tree is nearly like Nathans so it isn't even much AOE (2700 unreserved mana atm) but they already attack stuff at the screen edge and damage farther away with AOE. Leveling: I anticipated lack of totem damage early so I decided to just level with smite because I found strong phys weapons which carried me into early 40s. I would propose anybody can do this, usually it's more viable with a spell - because you don't find good weapons early. I had luck, I acknowledge that. some time around level 40 I started using shockwave totem - I skilled Shamanistic Fury and Shaman's Dominion to have them deal some damage first though, only then I got Ancestral Bond. The rest of the tree is pretty straight forward made it to act 10 without any issues, I got lucky and found a Tabula there (ergo I had more than enough damage now), so I decided to pick go for tanky ascendency options for second and third lab (Pursuit of Faith -> Divine Guidance -> Sanctuary of Thought) which gave me some nice tankiness AND certainly needed AOE because before you get some AOE going you really have to think about where you put the totems. So I would say that the lack of range/AOE was a bigger issue for me than the knockback.... for me the knockback actually does less than I expected. If you have 4 or 5 totems though... you can sometimes pull it off to lock in bosses, especially in more constricted map layouts: had a super high regen Metamorph stuck in a door way being slowly tickled to death by my bully totems. personal opinion overall: I kinda like totems but never tried shockwave because everybody said they are trash. I also like off meta stuff. So after I saw Astral Projector this league I said: Screw it, let's try (I can always just run freeze pulse totems if it fails). I got lucky with loot (strong early weapons, tabula rasa - 4L was doing fine before!)for sure, but I think any experienced player can pull it off. IF they like to. because yes, other things are stronger/quicker/safer. anyway now I am mapping with 2 friends and am on a 5l Cloak of Defiance with Essence Worm + Astral Projector + Cold Iron Point Dagger and it is very nice. Am the tankiest (3.3k Life, 1.6k ES, 2.6k Mana with super MoM) guy in my group and do good damage. Single Target is not stellar but good (mind you I only have 3 totems atm with 125.000 DPS each if target is cursed with vulnerability). if anybody wants to ask me question, I will very likely reply here. Also I am not try harding in PoE so I don't have to be the best, I just enjoy building characters which are a bit off the Track. Also enjoying this channel for the same reasons
I would love the build guide on this one. Wouldn't mind trying this for my 2nd character this league. I started 3.9 as dual wield axes Lacerate Gladiator with a Soul Taker so I don't have to worry about mana. It's been pretty good damage so far but not the best when it comes to defenses, Thanks for all the awesome content!
League started as chieftain blade vortex too. Trying to do some sort of self ignited variant. Also scaling up my armour with formless inferno ... Got to say thank you for all this Nathan!
Hey! That's my league starter too! Except I'm doing it basically as SSF and it's still been pretty dang solid. I had actually forgotten about +1 to physical spell level, was focusing more on +fire damage to spells. Some useful avenues for me to consider here, thanks.

I've recently started this build and am on act 10, just a few questions about the build: 1. in you're personal BV build not the ideal you have mods that add physical as extra chaos damage but also take avatar of fire. are these just random mods that just happen to be on the wand or is that some new tech I don't know about? 2. if I were to choose a unique for the chest slot what do you think would be the best chocie? Hey man, i'm trying out this build and i really like it so far. I just started the league so i'm stupid low level the the bv feels great for single target and clearing is not that bad too. Also you didn't talk about it in the video, but now that league specific rare are more accessible you can now have a +1 to physical skill gem on a warband amulet so it's really easy to get a 24bv. Also do you think switching to crit in the future would be a good thing ? Or is the investment too risky since you need to cut a lot on the life and whatnot ?
Having 4 shockwave totems with 25% chance to knockback does not equate to 100% chance to knockback. These are isolated chances so if anything they add multiplicatively rather than additively. Only rarely will you get all 4 of them to knockback (true 100%).
Have you considered rocking a bow with aetherial 20% more dam and plus to gems and the signal fire quiver ? Thats what i used on my chieftain and ots lets you run koams and save points in templar area not having to go get aof

I wonder if dual iron point dagers would increase the damage more or not. It do for me at least so far but im running a poison blade vortex build so it stacks damage difrently. But i was close to going chieftan blade vortex this league. Would most likly made lvling easier. Better clear.
i started with ice shot, bad choice i suffered all the early game until almost maps, then i got damage to clear and kill bosses by freezing the s* out of them but 1 hit and i die so now i'm gonna try this build wish me luck

Would armageddon brand be good for chieftain you think? I feel like that would feel really good aswell. (I don't usually like the channel skills winter orb and bv etc.)
@@ecogaming4460 I agree but it wouldn't benefit from the chieftain ascendancy like how armageddon would. And I feel like playing some tankier builds this league so storm brand would limit me to assasin or Inquisitor (elementalist maybe).
@@kyroslangen618 Chieftain Armageddon Brand isn't bad, but the delay built into Arma in this league is rough. Conquerers are very quick, as are the Metamorphs so the brand can miss it's damage entirely
ok, so maybe someone can explain this to me. Why does no one use guard skills? I see his shitty low level shockwave templar not even using steel skin. Why??? i can understand later everyone does CWDT+call, but i see low level people just SKIP steelskin... why??? its one socket for a huge survival boost!
I've leveled with 2H Cleave and then Sunder, didn't see any other option for Marauder personally. It was pretty torturous at the end because socket colors limited me to old weapons, but I barely made it through normal lab at level 32, grabbed the Ngamahu node and Avatar of Fire, threw away the melee gems and never looked back. Started the passive tree by cutting through to Born to Fight via the melee phys. nodes instead of taking the life nodes, can respec into them later with the respec points you get from quests. I did buy Tabula, Goldrim and Wanderlust from having a previous character though.
i decided to do holy flame totems and jesus they ether die so fast i have to resummon or the mobs ignore them run at me and they become useless and since i cant deal damage myself it got really annoying another thing was there damage untill i got my 5/6 link was non existent i thought totems were suppose to be beginner friendly but jesus it was annoying ima just stick to cyclone like i do every league

You complained about a low power leveling starter build so then you rolled chieftain bv which has like literally 0 dmg nodes first 20 levels and all gems need to be bought from siosa or other players :D.
Like no one has ever thought about bv chieftain before you came along^^ ... come on man. There's nothing wrong with taking pride in the build guide you have created, but it isn't a novel concept for most people who aren't new to the game.

I made one of these and it's fantastic. Cast while channeling on cyclone makes BV a dream to play

Nice build. I am playing similar one with cyclone. Also using Ngamahu's Flame to convert 100% to fire and have molten burst on hit.
Tried that last league. Didn't scale so well into the late game compared to the Phys crit/impale version.

i think the wand mods are useless with avatar of fire. i guess he only cares about the +gem mod.

HP of leveling bosses were hardly touched. You were using Shockwave totem. That was the issue. You've got to use a more modern skill.

vaal bv includes normal blade vortex. unleash doesnt work with vaal bv, thats right

minions are also considered beginner friendly and didn't got nerved that much, so you could also try them out
