I don't remember what the book was called, I was in fourth grade. It was a 1012 page book about like uhm.. a Chinese girl going to a big mountain to go to this mountain dragon. After that I don't remember It was for battle of the books, but when I found out they would just get longer I backed out. Hey 4th grade me thought it would be fun
Me too, the humans did a lot to the dragons though. Dusky probably would've grown up happily with his parents! :D Still, he's just little, he might have not thought of it properly. I do agree that it was creepy though...
Is it better to be born great or to overcome great darkness to become so? I love this video. It addresses what I see as one of the most important aspects and one of the most overlooked parts of Qibli's character. He is NOT perfect. He makes mistakes. He has flaws. And, despite those flaws, he still comes through in the end. Qibli has every reason to be the insecure, power-hungry narcissist that sometimes appears in the books. His upbringing was absolutely crushing. Anybody raised under those conditions would be expected to turn out like Sirocco and Rattlesnake. But Qibli didn't. Yes, it leaves him with scars. Of course, it creates issues for him so deep-seated they may never fully heal. Despite that, though, he remains one of - if not THE - most kind, positive, friendly, helpful, and noble dragons in Pyrrhia. In a lot of ways, I think this is because he knows what it's like to not have that person - that shining beacon of happiness - in one's life. He knows it all too well. Does Qibli have a dark side? Yes. But his light shines through all the brighter because of it.

Of every character in the Wings Of Fire franchise, Qibli is without question the most complex. Just look at his huge mirroring complexities towards his character. Qibli is a hero who deeply reflects the villain. He’s a charmer who is desperate to be loved. He’s a goofball with an IQ level that goes through the roof. There are so many different things about Qibli to captivate readers. Complex morals, heart of gold, witty humor, dark thoughts, high ambitions, incredible thinking skills, beautifully sad backstory, this dragon really has it all. I had been long awaiting for this video and it is spectacular!
I’m very similar to Qibli (without the horrible mother/siblings) and I’d become a people pleaser by the time I read book 10. I loved him and found him so relatable (and I’ve gotten better)! His character is close to me and I’m intrigued to listen to the video because he does have some dark sides and so far I love the video! Edit: Qibli would’ve become the next dark stalker, yes. EXACTLY. They have so many similarities: popular, incredibly smart, and in denial that each would ever do something like that. He’s smart, but not listening to the consequences of magic would lead him to dark paths. Qibli wants power, for sure, and given that power who knows what he’d do!
I thought you would mention the part about Qibli almost making Moon's prophecy come true by using Anemone's bracelet for a storm, but this was also really detailed and interesting. I never really thought of Qibli as perfect, he has a lot of thoughts and sometimes, not all of them are sunny and bright. This is a good point in explaining that.
I think there's actually a Evil Qibli AU where he says yes to Darkstalker's offer. But yeah, this is one part of his character not many people acknowledge. I like to think Tui wrote Qibli to have the brighter path Darkstalker could've walked. Clearsight saw the hero he could've been in her visions, but even when things went wrong, the hope never really died out. Qibli almost lived Darkstalker's life, and nearly succumbed to the darkness, nearly repeated the past, but he took a look at both of their lives and decided he wouldn't make that mistake. He had all the motive to be a villain, but still refused, living the happy life that could've been Darkstalker's too. Qibli got a happy ending as the nice guy with friends and family that loved him, but he had to take a dark journey to get there. Though he probably still has the mental scars of his past, he's making an effort and he made a change, a true motivational tale.
That was actually the idea for my first What If! However, I've been considering rewriting it because I have loads of new ideas for how the story should go. And I like to think I've improved as a writer since then :)
I noticed this about Qibli too, Darkstalker even has a "we're not so different" speech. But I feel like the whole point of book 10's climax was to show that, while Darkstalker wasn't exactly wrong, he wasn't entirely right either. I'm glad Qibli was able to recognize this part of himself and decide to change for the better. Also, 10:12 is why I tell people I like Winter better than Qibli. While I understand that his blunt, short tempered, egocentric personality can make him difficult to like; when faced with a tough decision many times Winter can see the bigger picture and will decide accordingly. I'm not telling you ya have to start supporting Winterwatcher (even I can tell it's not exactly the most healthy ship), I'm just pointing out that I've noticed sometimes people will take a character and subconsciously boil them down to a few simple traits while handwaving the rest. I'm guilty of it too.
Winter's response while arguing with Qibli has actually made me respect him even more upon reflection. He said all the right things, yet because of his outburst and how we're supposed to be rooting for Qibli, I just blinded by just how *right* Winter was. Now that's good writing.
The best way I can summarize how animus magic would effect Qibli is: You try to act on the throne, but the throne acts on you. Power distorts your good intentions.
Video Idea: How Different Character deals with Trauma (ex: Qibli tells jokes, Whiteout Paints Pictures of how she wished her life was, Blue tunes out the world (Mentioned in the Prologue of Book 14, and in the early chapters of Book 15, and I believe it's also mentioned that he stays in Bed for months post book 15), etc.) Trauma is dealt with in different ways by many different people, so It's good to see that (although way less dragons than should in that series) show signs of trauma, because trauma is something that anyone can go through in real life, and theres many different ways people deal with it.
Qibli had a horrible first few years of his life, and i highly believe he would’ve been the next Darkstalker. the two share many similarities. although, they’re also different in a big way. Qibli was able to overcome that side of him, which was something Darkstalker could never do. that’s what i think, anyways. another great video as always!
I love this! :) I noticed this kind of thing, but I assumed Qibli as “different” because he was shown on the “good guy side”. He ultimately chose the right thing, but he was so close to becoming Darkstalker.
Wow, that story was sad at the begin and happy at the end I never knew that he live a hard life I just want people to love him! This is why I love wings of fire because it’s a story about family, war, and tragedy. It’s just so unique that how this series was able to become so popular. I love how everything is in that series and how people will love it as well. I always love dragon and since the beginning and I love of many different kinds of dragons of wings of fire, seawings, rainwings, and other dragons. Even though that multiple headed dragons don’t exist in the series but what if they did? What would happened if Hydras existed in wings of fire?
the main difference between darkstalker and quibli you overlooked was unlike quibli, darkstalker refused to listen to ANYONE, quibli does. i doubt he would ignore his friends if they told him it was wrong, or he would at least hear their point of view and see if they have a point, or try to explain his reasons for why he would be right
That's a really good point! Qibli listening to his friends ultimately caused him to rethink. Darkstalker never did, even though he had friends telling him the exact same thing. That's their key difference.
YESSS! this has been bugging me for a wile. I love qibli and I love how he overcame his desire for everyone to like him. I hate how people just ignore his dark side as it’s an important part of his character.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who picked up on it! It's pretty disappointing to just see his darker side ignored, because it was actually really well written as a moral dilemma for the readers.
Honestly I don't dislike Qibli at all, but I find him hard to read because his personality just feels kind of... Off when he's around anybody else. It's sort of freakish how well Tui wrote his character to be both a cinnamon bun and a little terrifying. Edit: The cheating metaphor fit really well tbh, it just never seems to occurr to Qibli that maybe he's *not* special, or that parasites dont care if youre special?? His book makes me genuinely worry for him, but I felt so strangely proud when he declined Darkstalkers offer, considering he's a fictional character I don't even really relate to at all xD
When I was watching this video, it made me realize how quibli changed throughout the book, because the dragons in every book changes for the better, but I realized that quiblis book was the only book that I never realized that he changed until now 😂
This twelve minute analysis is the ULTIMATE explanation on what makes Qibli such a phenomenal character that everyone seems to overlook. This video goes over every single reason as to why Qibli is by far my favorite character in Wings Of Fire. Not the humor. Not the charm. Not the cleverness. Not even the heroism. It’s the ambition, the one thing that everyone overlooks about him. Qibli is by far the most complex and complicated character in the Wings Of Fire franchise, and those who doubt his depths are the ones who extremely need to see this video the most in order to understand just how desperately broken he is. I wish so much for the fandom to look past Qibli’s jokes and antics so they can understand that there is so, SO much hidden darkness in him that truly defines his character at its core. I’ve struggled for a long time to write out a character analysis essay that gives Qibli’s character the full extent of the justice it deserves, but this video has done exactly that. I hope it opens eyes all over the fandom so readers can at long last see just how special Qibli truly is! It’s a blessing that this video was created. Thank you so much!
Who even knows if he would have been the same anyways if he said yes, Darkstalker could have enchanted him. He just said it would be to where his magic wouldn’t work on him, or could be used to against him.. but he could have done something more. He could have enchanted Qilbi to do whatever he said as well. Its a good thing he did say no.
The title is pretty accurate now that I think about it 👀 Most of the WoF titles either summarize a key point in the story, but others like Escaping Peril just... don't make sense. I understand that one has a double meaning and all, but it's still just off. Some are literal and others are just weird lol Darkness of Dragons truly *was* about the darkness of dragons; two in specific-- Darkstalker and, surprisingly, Qibli.
@@Dogloverlikesdoge This may sound silly but I view Escaping Peril as Peril kind of escaping herself. Like her escaping all the bad things she’s done and that has happened to her and finally being accepted by others
Honestly, Qibli accepting Darkstalker's offer might as well have created an entire new arc, and ngl I wish it had happened. It'd allow for us to get protagonists from characters we already got to know a bit throughout the first 10 books, and I would've loved to see Winter and Qibli switch roles in their relationship: now Qibli going through angst and Winter supporting him to overcome his hidden low self esteem issues. Also, Qibli is best boy.
This is a good thoughtful lesson that if you wish for powers and even ones good at heart you with great power can turn if one is not aware of the dangers so even if you do not want to turn evil yourself could transform your into a monster that yourself fear the most has friends helps save quibi from what could have turning evil
Even tho this video was all about his flaws as a character, the flaws ended making him a much better character in the end, making his ark really interesting and somewhat relatable with a lot of people, Tui did a fantastic job with him
I remember reading Qibli’s book the first time and being too distracted w hate thoughts of winter winter winter moon moon moon qibli funny uncle better
Sorry I’m late! Anyway, I love Qibli. He’s one of my fav dragons because of his sense of humor and him and Winter are so funny together! I never know what he’s going to say, which makes it interesting to read about. But yes, he does have a dark side. Especially Qibli in “The Brightest Night.” Loved the vid idea, it was good! Can’t wait for more, especially tribe Analyst!
One part that stood out for me was where Darkstalker got the idea for the 'like me' spell from Qibli himself, on the day he turned up at the academy. Everything Qibli went through to get Winter to wear the magic earring, that was him fighting against the manifestation of his own ideas. Also, the argument they had in the NightWing palace wasn't just done in the context of Winter having been under the spell. It was also informed by the events of book 7. Winter having worn Pyrite's necklace for a few minutes, and everything the group had done together to get Hailstorm back after having been lost for two years to Queen Scarlett's evil. Her very own version of a 'like me' spell having torn a family apart... that fact is lost on Qibli.
I feel like people dont realize that its literally human nature (or dragon nature, in this case) to be greedy and to think "Oh, but I'll be different." Im glad this video recognizes that, that in the moment, everyone thinks they'll be the exception. I know for a fact that, if I had animus magic, I'd set an any% speedrun world record for becoming the next darkstalker lmao. And I'm not a bad person, but given that much power, it could corrupt the purest of hearts. I dont think that Qibli's secretly evil, or that he has "a dark side". Thats just how anyone would react.
I feel that something overlooked is the fact that Qibli almost brought down Jade Mountain. He was THE bad guy in the prophecy, from my perspective, and him saying no is what made everything turn out correctly. His obsession with Animus magic almost killed hundreds, and it's awesome to think about how this good, kind dragon could have been just as bad, or even worse, that Darkstalker.
Hey Moon! Halloween is really close, and I was wondering what happened to the wings of fire halloween map you were going to host. Is it going to be hosted for next halloween or will it be a late halloween thing? Either way I'm very interested in the concept and will definitely apply when it comes out. :)
We're hard at work on the project! I'm expecting a release for the MAP call sometime in November, with December at the latest. Either way, it's expected to come out at the end of the year. We had some delays, some of which were my fault because I started looking for help on the MAP call a little too late for an October release. But the backgrounds and designs are being worked out; once the designs are completed, the storyboard artists can begin working!
I’ve never liked Qibli. And I don’t understand why he’s my best friend’s favorite character. This video honestly just made me kinda hate Qibli even more, though I know it shouldn’t have. I know that Qibli did good, and he did say no to Darkstalker. For some reason, that made me hate Qibli more. For some reason, I kinda wanted Qibli to say yes, maybe because I knew that Moon and the others would have to stop him as well, and get rid of him in some way. I’m not in control of my emotions or feelings I’m sorry and I don’t know why I typed this or wan to share it I’m sorry.
Same, honestly he could become a villain so easily. I think I'd like him better as a villain too. Though he'd probably become a cheap version of Darkstalker so idk.
Book 10 shows HUGE parallels between Darkstalker and Qibli, especially during Darkstalker's speech to try to convince him. They're incredibly similar. However, Qibli didn't turn out like Darkstalker, because of that understanding he gains and because he isn't Darkstalker. He did say no, because he chose the side of love and his friends. He made a choice, and that's what life is. It's what makes us ourselves, our decisions. While he is like Darkstalker, he is not Darkstalker, because he made a choice.
He was an amazing character but ngl, I was a bit annoyed with Qibli, as he just seemed more and more like Dark Stalker during the book, not to mention how selfish he was when he always thought things like ‘Ugh Stupid winter I could have had animus magic’ or ‘Why did peril have to burn the scroll? I could have had magic my self’ Sounds selfish to me.
Kind of makes me think about Anakin and Luke. Luke learned from his father's mistakes, and forged his own path. Qibli learned from Darkstalker's mistakes, and forged his own path.
Qibli actually could have become the next Darkstalker! So many similarities! They’re pretty much like the same dragon! I’m glad Qibli said no because if he said yes the rest of the series would have been TERRIBLE AND DEVASTATING!
OOOOOKAY I finished the video (kinda) and we came to the agreement that... That's what the whole story was about? The difference between darkstalker and qibli that ultimately changed the outcomes of their arc is their attitude. Darkstalker is generally pessimistic, and Qibli (at the end of his book at least) is optimistic. I've typed enough already I should probably just shut up smh
Qibli could have become the next Darkstalker. But! If things turned out this way we'd have much better Darkstalker in our hands. The main difference between them: Darkstalker does what he thinks is right. Qibli calculates what's better for everyone. Still not very cool IRL, but most likely will lead to nice future for dragon world.
The main reason in my opinion that Qibli didn't accept animus magic, but Darkstalker thought he would was Qibli's friendship with Kinkajou who Darkstalker didn't know existed. She accepted Qibli visibly enough without animus powers that she factored into his decision, if not clearly.
I don't like Qibli. For the most part, not at all. Do I have your attention? Did my English attention-grabber knowledge work? If it did, allow me to go more in-depth. It honestly didn't start that way. I actually used to LOVE Qibli when I started reading arc 2 and I actually continued to love him through Darkness of Dragons onward. I used to be one of the people who would praise him for his hard life over Winter, and I wasn't upset in the least bit by the fact that Moon chose to be with Qibli. This was when I was a kid. A starry-eyed kid who loved underdogs. But being a kid allowed me to be blinded by fantasy. I didn't read between the lines when first reading Darkness of Dragons to see all the morally questionable things he was saying. It actually took someone else to point out everything about him YEARS after reading it for me to see that he wasn't as good a character as I thought. He had corrupt moralities and questionable thoughts, at least I see them as corrupt and questionable based on my own opinions. I understand that these came from the trauma of his youth, and I would've been fine with it and called it character development. But here's my tidbit. I'm going to sound like a salty Stan, but I promise you I'm not. My real issue with Qibli was how much he WAS praised continuously even after all this dark stuff about him was revealed. Meanwhile, people didn't seem to acknowledge the trauma or development of other characters. Turtle living is absolute self-doubt with ACTUAL animus magic, Peril who has essentially lived a nearly isolated life and I don't need to say why, Moonwatcher who grew up believing she was the worst possible dragon just for being alive, and then Winter. My main issue with Qibli's praise is how much most of the people I've seen have completely ignored Winter or acknowledged him barely and given him the simplest benefit of the doubt. Granted, I didn't quite understand Winter's trauma before so I didn't really acknowledge or ignore it, so I'm not saying I'm innocent. But I'm just shocked at how many people only depict him as the grumpy and angry dragon that is the bane of happiness. That wasn't his message at all, and it makes me think that people didn't read between the lines for him either. Winter is not the nicest dragon, but he wasn't bad. Can you imagine being forced into life in a societal system that determines your worth of living based on where you were born? Can you ever live with parents that hate your existence except for your position, siblings that would probably kill you without hesitation if given the chance, and only ever seen as a waste of a dragon? Qibli sure did. So why is it that only Qibli gets remembered? Why is Winter always depicted as mostly "bad" on the internet and Qibli as mostly "good?" This is what makes me mad. Even Tui seems to have completely skipped on his development by just jumping to his kinder self in book 14. In my opinion, this is just my opinion, Winter suffered more than any of his friends. Winter is lucky he GOT friends as Jade Mountain Academy. He isn't a people pleaser like Qibli and on surface level he has no redeeming qualities for anyone to even want to be his friend. But he's so much more. He's an ice-cold dragon with a soft spot at his heart with no one to chip at his surface to get there. It all comes down to this, because I can agree that Winter was not the best dragon at the beginning and through the arc, Qibli had the moral problems and Winter had the psychological problems. No one is perfect, no one. But if everyone is going to accept Qibli's development that happened in a single book when Winter's was spread out throughout the arc and then have him be a side character, then there's an obvious group of people who only see surface level character.
To be fair, I think it's definately slso wrong to judge someone based entirely on their thoughts. Besides, Qibli refused the powers. Perhaps he thought there was a chance that he could do something extraordinary bad, maybe he realized there was a way he could end up just as corrupted. But haven't you had a really bad thought, too? Haven't you thought about what you'd do if YOU had such intense power?
It's not a judgment at all, it's just a discussion of what really makes him such a complex character-- and it's the fact that we all have these kinds of thoughts. Qibli is arguably one of the most human characters in the series based off that alone, and it really shows great writing in that a lot of people can relate to him.
Hey guys! I'm writing a WOF fanfiction in Goto quiz, and i need a pantalan dragon character. Does anyone have any? Submit your tribe(Sillk/Hive/Leaf), abilities(Flamesilk/Stinkbombs/paralysis/leafspeak/etc.), characteristics, personality, and etc.
Yes he says that that's what he'd do, but wasn't that closer to the beginning of the book? Wasn't that what his whole character arc was about? Because he doesn't. He has a chance to do the thing he says he would do if he had animus magic. He has the chance to make everyone in the whole world like him, but he doesn't. That was the point of his book and the point of him meeting his mother again (who still doesn't like him) He had to learn over the course of the book that there would never be a world where everyone loves him, and he finishes his arc with refusing darkstalker's animus offer. Idk, I haven't read the book in a while. If he says "The first stuff I'd do with animus magic is blah blah blah" in the end of the book, then I'm wrong?
@@Cling_Thing190 me too! Also, I always ask questions, people think i'm weird, all the things you said (except im not nine), also i like doing risky stuff sometimes, and books are AMAZING, and also i have good friends like she does! :D

Let's not forget about how many of his ideas during part two of his book that completely backfired. That proves that evern if their intentions are good, they can backfire drastically.

Indeed it does.
Whoa, that is a FANTASTIC idea! Definitely adding to the list of potential videos 👀
Ty!!!
Poor blue :(
Pov, your favorite dragons are both Quibli and Darkstalker 👁️👄👁️
Qibli *
Quibstalker
Qibli had a horrible first few years of his life, and i highly believe he would’ve been the next Darkstalker. the two share many similarities. although, they’re also different in a big way.
Qibli was able to overcome that side of him, which was something Darkstalker could never do.
that’s what i think, anyways.
another great video as always!
Very true! Couldn't have said it better myself :D
I love this! :)
I noticed this kind of thing, but I assumed Qibli as “different” because he was shown on the “good guy side”.
"I just want other dragons to like me, and some of them won't, no matter how hard I try."
" *WeBjEcT mIX aNd MatCH AirLiNeS* "
XD
YESSS! this has been bugging me for a wile.
Wow, thanks, this highlights a few overshadowed features in him that I hadn't noticed.
I'm glad it did!
This is amazing! I thought of this too.... but I didn't want to believe it because Qibli is so kind and amazing and smart! :D
When I was watching this video, it made me realize how quibli changed throughout the book, because the dragons in every book changes for the better, but I realized that quiblis book was the only book that I never realized that he changed until now 😂
Yeah, he has a lot of development!
Qibli is my favorite character in the whole series. Even though he has some scarring I believe he has a heart of gold.
I've been waiting for a video of this. It's probably my favorite part of his personality.
I'm glad I could share some light on this! It truly is such an underrated part of his character, yet one one of the most important aspects to him.
Coconut is so much deeper wym
Whoo hoo good job! You will become very successful soon!
Ps.I changed my name, it was Moonlight Violin before
Hi! :D
That's what's scary. I'm glad Qibli knew better than the trust him, even if he did consider it for a moment.
what if Thorn got Stonemovers letter?
i think this would make a good what if video

Truly the Darkness of Dragons, Huh?
The title is pretty accurate now that I think about it 👀
Most of the WoF titles either summarize a key point in the story, but others like Escaping Peril just... don't make sense. I understand that one has a double meaning and all, but it's still just off. Some are literal and others are just weird lol
Darkness of Dragons truly *was* about the darkness of dragons; two in specific-- Darkstalker and, surprisingly, Qibli.
Nice!
@@Dogloverlikesdoge This may sound silly but I view Escaping Peril as Peril kind of escaping herself. Like her escaping all the bad things she’s done and that has happened to her and finally being accepted by others
@@midnightthesmartfox9981 That actually makes a lot of sense!
@@Dogloverlikesdoge Thank you!
I didn't realize this, I've always thought qibli was under rated
Sooooo. One of my favourite parts of Qibli's personally appears to be unnoticed by most of the people. Sad. Very sad.
10:14 This is why I like Winter. The best friends will try to keep you from destroying yourself. You make some interesting points about Best Sandwing.
YES! You are so right
At this point, I feel like animus magic is a power no one should possess.
Even tho this video was all about his flaws as a character, the flaws ended making him a much better character in the end, making his ark really interesting and somewhat relatable with a lot of people, Tui did a fantastic job with him
Agreed completely!
Especially Qibli in “The Brightest Night.”
Loved the vid idea, it was good!
This is going to break Jade Mountain Archive...
I feel like people dont realize that its literally human nature (or dragon nature, in this case) to be greedy and to think "Oh, but I'll be different."
Im glad this video recognizes that, that in the moment, everyone thinks they'll be the exception.
You are awesome
I can listen to you forever
After this analysis, I immediately thought of the Crying Child from Fnaf (Evan). Idk why.
I petition for Darth Qibli and Darth Darkstalker to rule the galaxy! With talons of power and lightning.
Darkstalker acctually got the idea for "make everyone like me spell" from listening to qiblis mind!
It would be SO cool to see an AU of evil Qibli

@@Dogloverlikesdoge okay!! I'm glad you're keeping it going and I'll be on the watch for it. :) Good luck with the map.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely...
Indeed it does.
Nah, you can share. Your opinion is valid, friend.
Yeah
@@novamythic_8466 thanks
Qibli fans (aka the whole fandom, you can't convince me otherwise) seeing the video title: What? Impossible!
Great video!
Thank you! :D
You should try what if moon and qibli confessed their relationship before book ten
Hey, great video
What if idea, Qibli got the scroll
I know that you have said it here, but I would love to see it elaborated.
The Darkstalker scroll before Peril burnt it
also there’s Turtle. Turtle might have potentially done something bad as well, along with anemone. (well anemone almost did lol)
darkstalker admited that he got the everyone likes me spell from Qibli's mind.
I have a what if here, what if sunny was born with nightwing powers
The main reason in my opinion that Qibli didn't accept animus magic, but Darkstalker thought he would was Qibli's friendship with Kinkajou who Darkstalker didn't know existed. She accepted Qibli visibly enough without animus powers that she factored into his decision, if not clearly.
Wof is the Absolute best and u are one of my fav RUclipsrs
I am a huge fan
I think i know a certain RUclipsr who would vouch for quibli here
jma
You are my favorite you tuber
Thank you!

8:21 but... he didn't?????????? you forgot to say "if it weren't for ______"
Yes he says that that's what he'd do, but wasn't that closer to the beginning of the book?
