We’re definately not using hot balloons for transport. It’s just a luxury leisure things for sunny days. And it’s not very usual to do. I’ve never done it in 56 years and I know very few people who have.
I flew in one twice. Landed once, on a huge glass greenhouse, almost got flipped through the broken glass together with 17 other skydivers. The most fun you can have without dying. I was the only one who thought it was hilarious because I was watching closely what happened.l, the rest was kneeling on the floor.
Imagine seeing a 6-year old girl accompied by her 9-year old sister on their way to school by bicycle, without neither father nor mother. I have seen them a couple of times.
That is how I went to school in the '80s, with my little brother. I could swim very well at 6 so I could go where I wanted. All my childhood friends just went to play in the park a few Km from house. We always left our daughter unsupervised from 4yo, on the beach, in any zoo.
I live in 🇪🇸Spain and I went to school on my own😅. I guess it's kinda common in the entirety of Western Europe although I live in one of the safest areas (Principality of Asturies) and I don't know how it is for more populated cities like Madrid or Barcelona.
Olá, queridos It is not "very common" to fly a hot air balloon but especially in summer you might see a few. Flying a hot air balloon is very expensive, requires a lot of permits and training. Also for passengers it wil cost a lot of money. It is mostly done by tourists and for special occasions/promotions. It can cost around 200 euros per person. (about 1300 BRL but since prices for things might be much higher or lower in general for you, it is about 8% of the average monthly income.) Basically low and middle incomes probably won't be able to afford it. What IS very common here is for children to be out on their own. Going to school, or to sports. Playing outside on nearby squares or local parks. In general there is always people around that will help or intervene when absolutely needed. Also, we all know there are kids out so when we are in traffic we pay attention, in cities and towns a kid can pop out of a street or driveway. Dutch are very aware of their surroundings when driving or walking. I think most of us don't even really realise that. BUT we are FAR from a perfect country, there is no perfect country. We not doing bad though. I am 56 myself. Officialy I am "disabled" which in my case really only means that nobody will hire me and I am unable to get a paid job. That said, I do volunteering, I cycle about 50km a day, I am an avid gamer and have a good social life. Most of my friends are between my age and 70 and they all are always out and about doing things. The more you stay active and connected to society, the longer and happier your life will be. 8:50 I am from Utrecht myself. Fun fact about the ACU (which by the people from Utrecht is pronounced as the word "aku"). It originated froma car repair/dealership that was located in the city center when that was still "car friendly" called "Auto Centrale Utrecht". When this business went out of business their building was left empty for years until it was taken over by squatters who made it into a social cafe and "Anarchist action centre". Many people thought in those days the name ACU meant "Anarchisties Centrum Utrecht" As far as I can tell that has bever officialy been the case. At a certain point there was even an alternative cinema located in the centre. Over the years it grew out to the social organisation it now is. It no longer is located in the original building but always has kept the original name. I say till next time with the words of the band "the Specials" you can find it on youtube by using the first like. " Enjoy yourself it's later than you think Enjoy yourself, while you're still in the pink The years go by, as quickly as a wink Enjoy yourself, Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think" Mucho amor desde Utrecht, Países Bajos.
The only people here living behind high walls, electric fences & barbed wires are criminals. Sad to say it sounds more like a prison than a home. Stay safe & all the best from Denmark ❤
Some people in the comments don’t agree. They’re probably from the province Brabant, where, for some reason, it’s common to have shutters for the windows.
Imagine using them for everyday transport, like commuting to work or getting your groceries. Your schedule would be completely centred around wind directions 😂
Although I guess in general people in Western European countries are more healthy than in the most third world countries, it’s a fact that people here get less and less healthy by the way food is being produced, costs of them and the distribution. Besides that, unhealthy food is pretty easy to find, not expensive and most of all, made more attractive and even addictive. Almost half of all the people are overweight and numbers are rising.
See,lives in Amersfoort. I,went to highschool there. At the Arnhemse road. From Spakenburg affter the city center. Every day 9 km by bike and mopat later.
What outside people don't know,ALL of the Netherlands is man made!!A very few places are not but is not even 10 % off the whole Netherlands. This is not a country that existed like this, this almost all man made.If you look at the cards of a lot off centuries ago,you don't recognize the Netherlands anymore.A very long time ago it was a normal country with other lines. Then later on the sea was very much present in the Netherlands and now we are slowly but surely get a much land back as we can from the sea.😄
Maybe safety has to do with population density. You are almost never alone. I wouldn't consider the Netherlands a relaxed country. Especially for parents. We've adopted the things we like about France, Spain, Portugal and Italy but this can mean working after hours and in the weekends. Enjoy the moment. This means sitting in the sun. But work has to be done. If you have a good job or a lot of money you can have a nice life here. But it's not an easy country to live in.
Some critissim Yes we have great infrastructure… Yes we have lots of bike paths Most videos are from expats who live in the major towns….they have no idea what’s the south, east or north of the country looks like. If they use public transport they use metro or train. But… Bike are stereorack in major towns…it’s so bad that the coverment is about to make new laws trying to turn the insane increase in deaths and heavy crashes by bikes around. Electric bikes are the worst….elderly people and yong kids on these bikes flood hospitals and emergency rooms. Public transportation is awsome in towns. From town to town trains are ok. Outside the western part off the country and major town public transport…according to Dutch standards is horrible. Most villages have no…I repeat no public transportation after 7 in the evening. Some not even during daytime…they have to call for a bus. Bikes planes are all over….but most people don’t bike over 15 km to and from school or work. This means that not many bike from town to town…or even village to village. Just some clearing over all the wonderful stuff you hear.
A Dutch saying is: "You work to live but do not live to work.".

There are a couple of hot air balloon companies in the Netherlands. I've flown in one once. Not for transport, pure recreational :o).

Flying/floating in the air with a hot air balloon is véry expensive. Absolutely not public transportation🤣. But ofcourse a beautiful experience!
The freedom you have as a kid here in the Netherlands is incredible.
This should be normal all over the world😢
You only have today, because you don't know what tomorrow brings. So you might as well enjoy it, so….seize the day!
I am a 61 Year old dutch man. I go with my bike to work. I live 9 km from work. And I sport 4 times a week. I try to stay fit till I am verry old.
The two of you should sure come visit.
The Dutch Hot Air Balloon Centre is in Amersfoort, there are based next to the Stichtse Rotonde

When I was 4 i went to school with my little bike, 2 streets away. 🇳🇱

It is the job of parents to teach children to be safe and self-reliant, not to keep them small till the age of 18 or 20.

That is just normal as it is safe in The Netherlands to go to school.

That kids go to school on their own or go along with kids that go to same school. Same with play outside. That's normal in most EU countries....
Groetjes uit Nederland, fijne feestdagen 🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅🎅
Bicycle Dutch is a channel that has several video's about the old and young on bikes.
The hot air balloons are just for fun. You can just take a fun ride without any purpose.
Imagine using them for everyday transport, like commuting to work or getting your groceries. Your schedule would be completely centred around wind directions 😂
The hot air balloons are purely recreational/ touristic attractions but yeah during the summer months you do see them regularly

So did I since 7y.o. in Italy
Please know, these streets are the most expensive places to live
You are pronouncing Utrecht correctly 😊

A LOT more safe and easier than France, Portugal, Spain etc. #sorrynotsorry
As an employee, you never work more than 40 hours/week, so plenty of time to meet friends, walk in the park etcetera. Spare time is for all incomes.
Wtf. Went to school at 1974. Alone at 7 yo. Still (almost all) under 3kms from school walking or /bicycling
