  • American Couple Reacts: British Style Sausage Roll & Deep Fried Mars Bar! FIRST TIME Making & Eating One! We have NEVER had a real Sausage Roll before! Are we as Americans even capable of making one? We have heard so many times, that we must somehow try a Greggs Sausage Roll! Well, we did our best to create a homemade Greggs Style Sausage Roll! This isn't the United Kingdom but we hope you'll appreciate our efforts. We taste this Sausage Roll with a nothing at first & then with: HP Sauce, then Ketchup and lastly new to us, HP Fruity! We also had to have something for dessert, so we made the highly talked about, Scottish creation: The Deep Fried Mars Bar! Today is our 12th Wedding Anniversay (July 14th) so we wanted to do something special for you and us! Let us know how we did in the comments and if you ever make either of these at home yourself. We do know as we say in this episode that there are many variations on how to make the sausage rolls. Thanks to each of YOU for watching! Hi Natasha & Debbie,
New subscriber here from Germany, I live near Cologne.
I love your videos on my country and thank you for all the kind comments.
Would you be interested in doing a video dismissing the myth that all German's wear socks and sandals? It really drive me crazy! That's why my RUclips profile pic is me showing my feet 😆. I'll leave some videos link in reply below discussing popular German stereotypes etc that I hope you might react to?
My best wishes to you Natasha and your lovely wife Debbie on this anniversary.

Greggs are certainly a good bakers down here in the south we had ABC (Aerated Bread Company) which became part of Greggs early seventies and in the City of London in Blomfield Street near Liverpool Street main line station was branch and many a night I used to pop for a loaf of bread on the way to the station around 07:30 pm most nights, you would never find shops open at that time of night certainly not in the City of London as there was very few people around at that time of the day well after rush hour so I have very fond memories of Greggs who saved my bacon on many occasions.

Big sausage rolls like these are generally a street food snack, so you eat them with your hands, walking around. They're a good, quick, filling snack that you can eat in half-a-dozen bites and be left with no waste except a small paper bag. Small "cocktail" sausage rolls at buffets can be eaten with fingers or forks. You generally don't put sauce on any of them, but if you want to, nobody will stop you.

I used it to make meatloaf, but would add some herbs to it. It’s what we would use instead of dismantling sausages but if that’s what you’ve got then you did a great job of making them - I was salivating all the way here in Cornwall, UK! I love a good flaky sausage roll.

I make a cheese and bacon wrap, a sheet of puff pastry cut into 6 or 8 squares (depends on the puff pastry sheet- each square should be about 5-6" square, a rasher of streaky bacon placed corner to corner (actually 1 slice equals 2 rashers as defined over here- so use 1 slice) a square of cheese (use your favorite) over the top, then fold the 2 corners that dont have the bacon over the middle making little pointed ended parcels of bacon and cheese. cook for 25 minutes and you have lovely cheese and bacon wraps, I make a batch of 8 on a sunday morning, eat 2 for breakfast when they come out of the oven, then its one every morning heated in the microwave for breakfast for the rest of the week.

Hi Debbie and Natasha. Loved this video. Sausage rolls are a lunch time favourite here in Australia. They are served hot, and normally with Australian tomato sauce. My favourite is Rosella tomato sauce. If you can get that at your international store, give it a try. It's not ketchup, and it's sweeter. And the filling of an Aussie sausage roll is sausage meat only. No onion or any other kind of aduleration. And they look very much like the ones you made. Well done.

Here in both Australia & New Zealand is that all of the Pies, Sausage Rolls & Pasties were common things as food products most probably ever since from the (1960s) & onwards after that & even still to this &/or that day of today right now & also will be in so many more years to come of course.
But I still remember either from my very old school days of both the (1970s) & the (80s) that the Pies, Sausage Rolls & Pasties were sold in School Canteens &/or School Tuck Shops but it depends on which Australian State &/or Territory that you do live in &/or come from about Schools &/or Colleges which they either call them Tuck Shops &/or Canteens by their very own names for both Students & Staff Members who their very own Food & Drinks for Morning Tea &/or Little Lunch, Recess and Big Lunch referred as Lunch of course.
But however, here in Australia is that the Pies, Sausage Rolls & Pasties were (NOT) being sold in both Schools & Colleges but also, they been sold in Cake & Pie & Pastry Shops, Bakeries, Corner Shops, Very Small Grocery &/or Convenient Shops, Takeaway Snack Bars & Cafes, TAFE College Canteens & University Canteens &/or Cafeterias, of course.

    • @gennytun
      @gennytun Месяц назад +1

Correct! Though to complicate things even more, the US fluid oz is very slightly larger than the UK fluid oz - but not enough to make up for the smaller number of fl oz in a pint. The result is that a US pint is just under half a litre (473ml) while a UK pint is a bit over half a litre (568ml).

One of the most popular things for parties are what we call cocktail sausage rolls. They are basically mini sausage rolls you can eat in one bite 😋 you get em frozen in bags of 50 normally, but they are the budget ones. The posh ones with better meat and more flavour are normally bags of about 25. You can get Gregg's ones too in boxes of 16 from Iceland, as they are an exclusive supermarket for Greggs

Happy Anniversary! We call baking soda/ bicarbonate of soda/sodium bicarbonate as you do. Baking Powder is baking soda + cream of tartar + cornflour(starch). Its just the chemistry, the tatar is acidic and reacts with the bicarb to produce CO² (I couldn't do subscript). Helping to puff up, in this case, the batter. Experiment with your sausage rolls, you can make whatever combinations you like! Who's to stop you?

Hello Ladies, happy 12th anniversary. Many batter makers use beer, the fizziness helps aerate the batter to make it lighter, however just as many use fizzy water for the same effect but no alcohol!. The little bits of batter are what we call "Scraps", we used to ask for some with our chips, and they were usually free!
P.S, Deep fried Mars bar will taste different, chip shop oil has fried chips, fish, sausages etc.

Those looked pretty authentic sausage rolls to me! One thing to note is that you get tons of different types of sausage in the UK - such as “Cumberland” or “Lincolnshire” - they are basically a similar pork recipe but flavoured with different herbs or spices. So you can choose your favourite sausage type to make your sausage rolls!
