Greggs are certainly a good bakers down here in the south we had ABC (Aerated Bread Company) which became part of Greggs early seventies and in the City of London in Blomfield Street near Liverpool Street main line station was branch and many a night I used to pop for a loaf of bread on the way to the station around 07:30 pm most nights, you would never find shops open at that time of night certainly not in the City of London as there was very few people around at that time of the day well after rush hour so I have very fond memories of Greggs who saved my bacon on many occasions.

Plus you need to try batterd pickle onions and gherkins brill especially to accompany fish and chips .😂

Thank you for confirming Gregg's are made in a factory. I was arguing about this with my brother in law the other day. He was adamant Gregg's staff make them in the bakeries. I did point out you can buy them to bake at home in Iceland.🤣🤣🤣
Now imagine your walking round the shops, it's lunchtime, you get a jumbo sausage roll from Gregg's, when you finish it you do the flaky pastry brush off and your ready to shop some more.😊
I reckon the deep fried Mars bar would be amazing with ice cream although that would definitely be a sugar coma 😅😅 I am vegan and Greggs do vegan sausage rolls that I am told tastes exactly like meat ones! They looked amazing.

Scotch Eggs next. The Mars bar with ice cream. Pigs in blankets, sausages wrapped in bacon. Try a little English mustard on the pastry on the inside of the sausage rolls.
Happy 12 anniversary. Try the sausage rolls with gravy too. Natasha for your mars bar your batter needs to be a little thicker, so glad you gals like it. Love your channel.❤❤
69 year old man born &bred in Scotland have never eaten this and dont intend to. Have yet to meet another Scot who has eaten a deep fried Mars bar. Only people I have seen eating this are non Scots on RUclips.
Deep fried Mars bars are something that is sold for tourists in Edinburgh and Glasgow, they're not regularly eaten by the overwhelming majority of Scots!
Happy Anniversary to two wonderful ladies who deserve only the best. Keep doing what you do, damn the haters. Looking forward to been entertained by you for years to come.
Love the vid as always! I would suggest that you make the batter a thicker consistency for the deep flying and also use a BBQ skewer to lower the stuff slowly into the oil. By doing it slowly, the batter that is in the oil expands and gets air pockets making it float, so you don't get the problem of it sticking to the basket. Go into any chippy over here and you'll see them doing exactly that with the fish..... (Note to self... Get some curlywurlys...)
Next time, before putting the mars bar into the batter, roll the mars in flour. This will mean the batter will stick better (I used to work in a chippy) 😊
You definitely nailed the sausage rolls! I don't think they need messing with, but if you fancied it, you could spread a thin layer of mustard on the pastry before you put the sausage meat down. Or caramelised onions, or sriracha (pretty much anything you think would go well, tbh). Maybe add a pinch of salt to your batter next time - the salt/sweet combo is always a game changer 😋 Great stuff, both of you, and congratulations on your 12th wedding anniversary! 🎉
Big sausage rolls like these are generally a street food snack, so you eat them with your hands, walking around. They're a good, quick, filling snack that you can eat in half-a-dozen bites and be left with no waste except a small paper bag. Small "cocktail" sausage rolls at buffets can be eaten with fingers or forks. You generally don't put sauce on any of them, but if you want to, nobody will stop you.
@@samuelpinder1215 I agree. Part of the appeal of sausage rolls, whether full size or cocktail size, is the texture of the puff pastry, and sauce would spoil that.
You 2 make me laugh (genuinely), I've been watching your videos for awhile now, so keep up the great work, especially when you talk about the Armed Forces as an ex British Army soldier I thank you. 🇬🇧XX
I'd have added some dried sage and thyme, salt and pepper to the meat. No sauce required with the seasoning and you eat them hot with your hands like you would a hotdog. Happy 12th anniversary you lovely ladies.
I make a cheese and bacon wrap, a sheet of puff pastry cut into 6 or 8 squares (depends on the puff pastry sheet- each square should be about 5-6" square, a rasher of streaky bacon placed corner to corner (actually 1 slice equals 2 rashers as defined over here- so use 1 slice) a square of cheese (use your favorite) over the top, then fold the 2 corners that dont have the bacon over the middle making little pointed ended parcels of bacon and cheese. cook for 25 minutes and you have lovely cheese and bacon wraps, I make a batch of 8 on a sunday morning, eat 2 for breakfast when they come out of the oven, then its one every morning heated in the microwave for breakfast for the rest of the week.
Happy Anniversary Natasha and Debbie! Love the cooking show very much😎Sausage rolls look excellent, we used to get them at the bakery and put them in our coat pockets for a snack. I live in Chicago now and there's a sausage roll shortage so thanks for the tutorial!

Hello. Frequent watcher from Edinburgh, finally subbed 😃 As a long time sausage roll eater, I loved watching you make them from scratch. Yours are without a doubt, the best U.S. attempt I've seen. 10/10. I like to eat mine with either HP or BBQ sauce.
When adding battered items to a fryer, you need to create a "batter seal". do this by lowering the item into the oil as far as you can without it touching the bottom, and hold for a few seconds before releasing.
Hi Debbie and Natasha. Loved this video. Sausage rolls are a lunch time favourite here in Australia. They are served hot, and normally with Australian tomato sauce. My favourite is Rosella tomato sauce. If you can get that at your international store, give it a try. It's not ketchup, and it's sweeter. And the filling of an Aussie sausage roll is sausage meat only. No onion or any other kind of aduleration. And they look very much like the ones you made. Well done.
I'm not a fan of sausage rolls, even home made ones, but I do love Greggs sausage rolls. I've made deep fried Mars bars at home and from a take away and they're ALWAYS good. You should try it. I avoided them for years, thinking they'd be vile but oh my god they're so good. Have also tried deep fried creme egg, which was OK but Cadbury chocolate doesn't seem right deep fried.
If you can find sausage meat in a roll, that’s what we would use pre-made if you don’t make ur own completely from scratch. I used it to make meatloaf, but would add some herbs to it. It’s what we would use instead of dismantling sausages but if that’s what you’ve got then you did a great job of making them - I was salivating all the way here in Cornwall, UK! I love a good flaky sausage roll. They are also a staple at parties but as mini versions - bite size ones. X
And you have to get the meat to pastry ratio right, which you did. That is; not too much pastry and / or not to little sausage meat. I like them with a healthy amount of sausage meat.
I make mine with: Garlic Powder Dried herbs turned into a powder using a coffee grinder Onion powder Diced garlic Sautéed onions Finely diced Fresh Parsley Paprika Cumin Tumeric And Small frozen cubes of lard
You'll have to try a battered sausage and battered burger too! Battered sausage you can get at majority of chippies and battered burgers have become popular too.
Used to get alot of other things at chippys, such as spam fritters, pineapple fritters, patties, mushy pea patty and fish cakes. Love a good proper chippy.
Mates, the things you two are willing to eat for this channel is beyond duty. 😂. I’ve seen you eat four chip butties (well done btw) & sausage rolls. I would never eat either of these two things and so you have my ultimate respect.
I’d forgotten it was your wedding anniversary today. A very Happy Anniversary to my favourite ladies across the pond. Have a fabulous day and much ❤ to you both 😘😘
One of the most popular things for parties are what we call cocktail sausage rolls. They are basically mini sausage rolls you can eat in one bite 😋 you get em frozen in bags of 50 normally, but they are the budget ones. The posh ones with better meat and more flavour are normally bags of about 25. You can get Gregg's ones too in boxes of 16 from Iceland, as they are an exclusive supermarket for Greggs
@@chrispalmer2136 no. Cocktail sausage rolls has always been their name. Many bags still say this on them. Some say mini just to make it easier to understand
You guys are funny which is why I watch you. Tomato ketchup or sauce as we call it in Australia is best. Couldn't imagine a sausage roll with HP sauce.

Yes, there are many recipes for sausage rolls. Try adding some apple sauce alongside the sausagement before wrapping them in the pastry. They are lush!
Correct! Though to complicate things even more, the US fluid oz is very slightly larger than the UK fluid oz - but not enough to make up for the smaller number of fl oz in a pint. The result is that a US pint is just under half a litre (473ml) while a UK pint is a bit over half a litre (568ml).
In the Netherlands we also have something similar with puff pastry and seasoned minced meat (you can make it as spicy hot as you want) called "saucijzenbroodje" (= sausage roll). We also have a roll that we call "worstenbroodje" (= sausage roll) or "Brabants worstenbroodje". Instead of puff pastry, there is bread dough around the seasoned minced meat in the "worstenbroodje".
Hi Natasha and Debbie. I used to make sausage rolls at a cafe I worked in. I used to put garlic paste, onion granules, chives and black pepper. Absolutely delicious 😋

That is; not too much pastry and / or not to little sausage meat. I like them with a healthy amount of sausage meat.
@@felicitywoodruffe4087 That sausage meat didn't look very appealing to me. But then what do I know, I'm just a straight guy... 🙊
I include onion, garlic and herbs and spices to my sausage rolls. They're the bomb!
Whisk the batter with more vigour to get more air into it then the batter will be lighter.
I make mine with:
Garlic Powder
Dried herbs turned into a powder using a coffee grinder
Onion powder
Diced garlic
Sautéed onions
Finely diced Fresh Parsley
Paprika
Cumin
Tumeric
And Small frozen cubes of lard
You'll have to try a battered sausage and battered burger too! Battered sausage you can get at majority of chippies and battered burgers have become popular too.
@@wildwine6400 we don't eat beef & haven't since 2008
Used to get alot of other things at chippys, such as spam fritters, pineapple fritters, patties, mushy pea patty and fish cakes. Love a good proper chippy.
Mates, the things you two are willing to eat for this channel is beyond duty. 😂.
I’ve seen you eat four chip butties (well done btw) & sausage rolls.
I would never eat either of these two things and so you have my ultimate respect.
Happy anniversary ladies, here's to many more.
Very well done, the sausage roll looked yummy. Happy Anniversary to you both.
Thank you @teresanew9247
I warmed my shop bought pre cooked sausage rolls up in my George Foreman grill 👍🏻👍🏻
Happy anniversary ladies, when Natasha took the sausage rolls out of the oven I was drooling 😊
I’d forgotten it was your wedding anniversary today. A very Happy Anniversary to my favourite ladies across the pond. Have a fabulous day and much ❤ to you both 😘😘
Thanks!!
Thank you
Heinz Fruity sauce is my favourite.. I dont like tomato ketchup or HP brown sauce.. i do like salad cream with chips etc though
10 out of 10 for the video and the cooking, so much better cooks than me.
Those sausage rolls look (and sound) fantastic - from a Gregg’s addict. x
Thank you!!
@@LilMonkeyFella87 frozen....can't you make fresh
no cocktail sausages are mini sausages mini sausage rolls are mini sausage rolls
Do you know if Iceland have the same...but similar...to the Gregg's vegan sausage rolls at all?
@@nightowl5395 they sell Greggs vegan sausage rolls too. Box of 4 for £3
@@chrispalmer2136 no.
And Happy Anniversary! 🥂🎉😃
Ladies, just found the channel, it is really nice to watch, if you ever come to the UK an get to Liverpool, please let me know, happy to be a tour guide for this amazing city and have 5 amazing places for you to visit which all include, , WW2, Music, Titanic, Science, Art. Alsowith a sausage roll, split it open an pu HP how the middle. (PS if you do visit, it will have a cuddle pup in tow) Great show !!!!!!
So glad you're here. ❤😊
The Sausage rolls looked like perfection. i've never tried the fruity HP sauce but i think i'm about to. Epic video again thanks so much ladies.
Yes, there are many recipes for sausage rolls. Try adding some apple sauce alongside the sausagement before wrapping them in the pastry. They are lush!
Just fyi Natasha, the British pint is 4 fluid ounces more than in America.
For the next cooking with Nat and Deb show. Meat pies and for sweets Pavlova?
Cullen skink to start and to maintain the Scottish theme I would recommend cranachan for dessert.
Natasha's would need to be whisky-free of course.
Colemans (English) Mustard
We haven't tried that yet. 😊
@@debbie8674 Go for it, mustard is a must (excuse the pun), but it has to be Coleman's😚
Welll ,,,, Happy doody thingymagiggy lots of no tons of Love from Scarborough !!!
Aussie girl here, i put chopped onion in mine and sprinkle sesame seeds on top of the egg wash. The toasted sesame is so tasty.
I'm actually jelous of your oven, that thing is mighty.
Hi Natasha and Debbie. I used to make sausage rolls at a cafe I worked in. I used to put garlic paste, onion granules, chives and black pepper. Absolutely delicious 😋
"I don't like sausage" i fully expected a giant comedy wink to camera lol.
It's been done too many times
Thank you for a really good video, ladies! When doing the deep fried mars bar etc., can i suggest you use tongs instead of a spoon? Much easier!😊♥️
This looks to be going to be fun
Great vlog. I'm from UK and have never tried a fried Mars Bar so you have one up on me. The sausage rolls looked delicious and just like the ones we get here. I like mine as a meal with baked beans. I loved the video. Thank you both.
A recovering alcoholic? Absolute respect to you Natasha for beating that demon. And those sausage rolls looked perfect Debbie.
She still did the whisky thing, though... 🙀
What are you talking about? "Whisky thing?"
@@TheNatashaDebbieShow The exact term Natasha used for the whisk at 20:48 when mixing the batter in the video was "whisky whisky thing"...
Apologies if my weird sense of humour was inappropriate.
Keep up the fun videos, ladies! 😻
@@SirHilaryManfat Gimme some haggis pakora to wash down with my spicy red wine any day of the week... (Actually, I rarely eat anything deep-fried, and even rarer pastry.)
We all make different compromises, I guess!
@scotmark
Lmao that's actually funny,
Like whisking is her new whisky. Haha
the HP just hits different right. top tier sauce.
This is exactly why the people in the UK love to go to Greggs ! Maybe try BBQ sauce or Chip shop Curry sauce next time ?? xx
the crunch on the pastry - well done you!
Morning lovely ladies , happy Anniversary ❤❤🍧🍧 you complement each other perfectly , im sure your sausage rolls will give our Greggs a run for their money lol , i love Greggs , especially the sausage rolls , there is about six of their shops within a 3 or 4 mile radius of my house in Brum and they deliver (i asked them if they deliver and they said no mate you need a Butchers for that , lol) keep smiling and enjoy your special day xx
That looked bloomin' delicious!
Ah no way, I won’t be awake in time but absolutely can’t wait to watch it later on. Sausage rolls are amazing
Mate I love watching you two Yank birds 👍🏻 you are both so great I come home from work after a crap day watch your videos from across the pond and I feel so cheered up. You both make me smile and you make me feel proud to be British. Keep posting as you’re one of my fave RUclips channels. Love the way you embrace my islands culture and history. You both should be honoured with Uk Honoury knighthoods 🇬🇧
Theres a very famous sausage from Scotland called Lorne sausage aka Square Sausage. It has a unique seasoning blend and is formed into a square. You can find the seasoning mix online. I've seen people make it in loaf tins. REALLY nice, I made sausage rolls using them a few years back
Yeah I take lorne sausage over bangers every time, lorne is soo good. There's a butcher near me that makes his own but has black pudding running through the middle if it, its called blackheart sausage, delicious
you should make apple crumble
Morning Ladies...wow ! - I'm about to go out for my morning run ( Bromley to Greenwich park ) and you're making me hungry ! enjoy x ( PS Been to Scotland more times than you can shake a stick at - never had a deep fried MARS bar - afraid I might like it ! ) d
😂
You did a grand job they look great and you eat them with your hands perfect attempt!
Deep fryed mars bars are gooood, but so sickly 😅
totally. I'm usually done after a bite or two, 😅 Works really well with icecream though!
I really enjoyed this episode. You deserve a round of applause for your efforts.
