FiftyHP but that's what made his channel so big haha. i reccomend watching Green ham gaming tv as well, as they both have similar styles, while Green ham gaming is more comedic, and more detail oriented. Both channels are just as good as the other though
Then he reviews nothing but expensive parts, the channel dies because its original fan base leaves, and he's back on the budget builds reviewing cheap CPUs. The good old cycle.
TXM, what is the matter with you? Let him make his own informed decision on the card he wants to spend HIS money on. Just because he doesnt want to splash out £400+ on a 1070 or 1080, doesnt mean the card he gets is shit.
+HellFire You need to chill with the fanboyism mate, there is literally no difference on performance between those two cards, 3GB may be a problem but it can easily be fixed by lowering textures from very high to high, or high to medium. I've literally seen you everywhere saying Nvidia is shit and AMD is the best thing ever, i own a AMD GPU myself but you are a fanboy yourself, calling everybody who doesn't buy an AMD GPU a "shill", cmon now...
***** Im aware, calling it 1060 was a mistake imo. But my point is that this guy insults everyone who doesnt choose AMD, yet he is the one to call others fanboys or shills, like really?
Honestly, and looking at it objectively, Nvidia low to mid end offering isn't great, just OK. The 1050ti fills the 150$ price slot left unoccupied by AMD, but at 100$, 200$ and 250$ amd offering is either better performing or better value. One thing Nvidia is superior on is power consumption though.
Quite the same setup on my end. i5-4570 + solid but weak PSU (350W) and currently on GTX660 (since 2 years). Bought GTX 1060 3GB two days back (to be delivered tomorrow) because of 2 reasons: "Performance per dollar" (1080p only) and "Performance per Wat". I'm happy to see you are enjoying the upgrade. Cheers!
honestly your channel is amazing, I'm amazed your channel doesn't have subscriber's, keep going the way you're going and I think your channel will be huge in a year.
If you'd gone for the 470 you'd have a card that will eventually surpass the 1060 in terms of performance despite how cheap it is. We call this "FineWine" technology, because AMD cards only get better as time goes by while Nvidia cards get support dropped for them as soon as a new series is released. AMD cards are also vastly superior this generation because all the new-gen consoles are literally AMD machines; and since consoles own the highest market share in terms of game sales, that's where the money is, thus making developers want to optimise for AMD hardware as much as possible. Additionally, DirectX 12 is practically heaven for AMD cards. Using DirectX 12 in The Division gives me a 20fps boost on my RX 480 4GB. It's kind of crazy. I'm not saying that you choosing the 1060 is a bad choice; it's good in the short term, but expect to upgrade within 2 years while AMD owners won't have to upgrade for 4-5 years. Plus that 3GB is VRAM is a problem, to say the least. Sadly buying the 1060 also means that you are supporting a *really* shitty and anti-consumer company; honestly the price of Nvidia GPU's are a scam.
Not gonna lie without my recent experience with my brother I would've disagreed before but I agree with you. We both have the same 8gb ram and i7 6700k but when it comes down to GPU he has the better choice. His being Gigabyte R9 380x 4GB G1 and mine being EVGA GTX 780 3GB. When he enables DX12 his PC can withstand playing on maxed out 1080p way better than I can. I frequently drop to 50's and sometimes down to 40's with a constant 60 on 40% of the time. His is rock solid 60 and sometimes drops to 50 maybe 30-40% of the time. I never thought the R9 380x would be better, but with the DX12 support he got, it really helped him in the case of BF1.
Yup. DX12 makes such a huge difference on AMD cards it's not even funny. And as I said because of the fact that consoles are build on AMD hardware, DX12 is going to be the most common API out there.
Fake Grade A Under A #MakeRUclipsGradeAgain Uh, no. I'm speaking objectively here; that doesn't make me a fanboy. Do your research and you'll see it 100% supports what I've said.
There's no point in upgrading from 4460 to 4790, you won't see much of a tangible difference. Look for more cores rather than multithreading for your use case. I have a 4770 I'm speaking from experience
You need way more attention, This is such a connected channel, its not some corporate sellout that can afford to get the latest and greatest, I love how he appeals to the common person that doesnt have a bottomless bank account
...handle...what? He could have undervolted some people undervolt their 470 cards and still get close to 480 clocks haha Undervolt and overclock a 480 to beat 1060 performance on less budget XD
i like your channel cause you show off hardware and builds that basicly everyone can have if they are smart. unlike those channels that show 2000$+ builds that most of us only can dream of. and i think alot of people think the same cause your channel is blowing up. congratz man. i myself own a i5 4460 but with the 6gb 1060 and 12gb ram. its a beast
don't you worry that card is not bad, well I have the full one G6 from gigabyte and the only game I have that will use the full card is ARK, I try fallout 4, GTA V, skyrim SE, shift 2, I even try X.Rebirth, and nothing. Sure I don't have any new heavy game but ARK is really heavy due to all the bad performance problems. And wen I say really use I´m referring to over 60% usage, Skyrim SE did not even use 50% and the core stay at 45Cº/110Fº. My point is that this video is right, you don't have games to fully use higher cards unless you use VR or go higher that full HD, for the people that use 1080P the G6 version is stronger that many games needed. For your guys consideration this is my PC specs (and is 4 year old PC with a new GPU); Board = DZ87KLT-75K (INTEL EXT) CPU = i5 - 4690K - @ 4.2Ghz on max 61Cº MEM = 2x kingstone 4GB + 2x CRUCIAL 4GB (dual ch) (yes they have different volts) GPU = GIGABYTE GFORCE GTX 1060 G6 (very big card, almost did not fit in the case) HARD DISK = a mix of sata 2 and ssd in raid (very fast machine up to 280Mb ps data transfer speed show in steam, and it can go more). My point is you don't need to spend a lot of money OR like me spend for 5 year machine (or more) with small upgrades. Best regards to all
what do u think ... i bought a AMD x6 1100t with a Dark rock pro 2 Asus Crosshair IV Formular + 8gb ddr3 1600mhz + a msi gtx770 2gb + 750watt ocz psu + 6 Aero cool fans for 200€ / 170£ / 210$ And i then sold my gtx770 for 70€ / 60£ / 62$ after that i bought a Gigabyte Gtx 970 xtreme , a gaming mouse , and a Logitech gamepad for 200€ / 170£ / 210$ i overclocked my cpu to 4ghz
Just bought the GTX 1060 myself a few weeks ago (early Christmas gift). Very happy with it. I'm definitely headed for 4K gaming at > 100fps, but for me that's at least two or three years from now, and I'll be needing an all-new gaming rig anyway.
I upgraded my card recently. I had a choice between RX480 4GB and a GTX1060 3GB. I went with RX480, and I think I made the right decision. I believe AMD cards in general tend to age better than nVidia, more VRAM is also more futoreproof. I know RX480 uses 50W more than GTX1060, but ultimately the difference in electric bill isn't much.
I still have the gtx 960 2gb and im loving it it runs all of the new games ond ultra and high settings and i wille keep it as it my first ever graphics card
Rat Face nah man mwr on high 1920 70 fps to 60 infinite warfare 50 fps never drops so sync every frame cs go all max 260 fps bo3 high mix with somthing ultra 70 no bullshit man i can record it
I_ Chewy Do you have some sort of speech impediment? One, MWR and CS:GO are not new, and IW is not intensive at all. I thought you were talking about games like BF1. Plus "high" is vague.
Just bought a zotac mini 1060 6gb for $210.00usd for an older i3 just to have one in there. Off topic also been looking at the GPD WIN! A mini portable pc on the go. Awesome channel. I come here from time to time to see some builds since i'm still using an i3 8gb ram 500watt ps with win 7 pc.
Oh boy how much you are going to regret this decision only because AMD is 3C hotter than a shit 1060. And have you ever heard of reddit, it still happens to some...
in my country 6Gig 1060 cost 90$ more than 3gig. I have zero regrets buying cheaper version, as it works almost the same as 6gig. In some games you might want to put textures on High instead of Ultra, but i specifically researched this on youtube and found like no visual difference in all games. Eventually 1060 for me is a short runiing card that probably will be obsolete in 2-3 years max, so why waste money on 6gig. Don't listen to anyone who says 3gig is a bad card, it is cheap and works just fine.
2:50 ...Um, I don't wanna be a dick, but that's way off. My 470 used around 80 to 90 watts under load when undervolted and the power limit dropped. Even at stock settings it came nowhere near to 140w.
My XFX variant had a 6-pin, and no 470 comes without a power connector fyi. I looked at the cards max power draw with MSI Afterburner after running Uniengine Heaven & Valley, Overwatch, and GTA V. The max was 90w, and I think 110 with the power limit maxed to try and get the highest possible clocks just for fun.
TIG881 He is not wrong indeed. msi and such programs account only for the core consumption. you have to add about 10w of memory and at least 5% of the core draw for the efficency of mosfets. Maybe your 970 was overclocked on not such a good chip. The average for a not oced 480 is 120w core and 130-140 total, some models like xfx gtr are binned and can go as low as 80w core and 100w total.
TIG881 Trixx and Wattman will give you the same result of afterburner, since they all get the information from the same sensor on the card. At this point i don't actually know what's wrong with your 970, but you can check various online reviews to see that most of the time a 970 system and a 480 one are between 20w of difference one from the other
Great upgrade dude. Like night and day to the old 750 Ti and I truly believe that you'll soon be hiding high end equipment for us bought with all that youtube money! Love the content and your relaxed personality. Keep it up mate!
here in the US the 480 can be had for cheaper than a 3 gig and now thanks to driver updates beats a 6 gig, also tests have shown that mid-high ASIC quality 480s only consume 95 watts and 150 is like the worst case scenario.
Jesus christ, AMD themselves said the 480 consumes 150w on the 480 presentation, how can you even deny that? www.roadtovr.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/amd-rx-480-polaris-4.jpg
well jayztwocents, a reviewer that is usually very bias toward nvidia said his averages about 95, and myself an owner of 2 can say that mine run at no more than 100. AMD just didn't want to make any promises they couldn't keep 100% of the time, so they promised that a normal 480 under normal operation would never go over 150.
Msi afterburner doesnt report the whole power consumption on AMD cards, unless you are getting the readings off the wall then its not even close to the actual tdp
Well, unless you guys can find me a 1070 or even an RX 480 for less than, like, $160, then it's what I'm getting. I'm selling my 950s, anyway, which will actually leave me with money leftover. I just need more VRAM, and I'm not willing to drop $300+ on performance that I don't need. It's not like I'm fucking gaming at 4k...
Fireclaw Studios In euro's, the MSI GTX970 costs €400,- and the 1070 costs €500,- I decided to just save up a little more for a way better experience. Also, a 1060 with 6GB is actually €100,- cheaper than the 970 and better. But whatever, you decide... In my situation, it's not worth it.
About the VRAM, you're simply wrong. At 1080p, any modern demanding title will easily use > 5GB on highest settings. Gears of War 4, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Titanfall 2 all use >90% VRAM, just to name a few.
Based on your criteria it looks like you made the best choice. I'm sure that card will serve you well for the foreseeable future, and possibly beyond that.
Sure it will since he plays at 1080 and isn't opposed to playing at high settings. Only those people who insist on playing at the absolute highest settings and/or at higher resolutions will run into a problem for the next couple of years.
That's your opinion and while it does hold some merit his decision is not an incorrect one once one factors in all of the variables (as he clearly does in the video).
cee128d nope I don't wanna sound like I'm right and your wrong, but the AMD RX 480 is a better choice as the drivers get updated it only gets better, while the 1060 is not going to improve as much and will probably be abandoned by next year like most Nvidia GPU's.
ninja, you must not have watched the entire video then. He clearly states that cost is a big factor here. He went with the most cost effective solution FOR HIS BUDGET. Going with the 480, or even the 470 would have required replacing his power supply. When you factor that in he made the correct choice FOR HIM. Watch the video again starting at about the 2:20 mark. He goes into that aspect of it. THAT is why I stated what I stated in my original post. Notice I stated "based on your criteria" in it. That is taking the cost and power consumption into account.
congrats on upgrade, i have friends who are very price councious and they too took 1060 over other options, mainly that they game on 1080p and 1060 being basically 970 on steroids. imo you are set for couple years ahead wit this card.
agreed...majority of new benchmarks show the rx480, overtaking the 1060 performance wise.Thanx to AMD driver optimisation. No I'm not a AMD fan boy I own a 1070
I've been watching you for a month now, and let me say that your videos are incredibly awesome and informative. Looking forward for more and hoping you get 100k subs soon!
Nice video!! It is a great card, especially when you are case and power limited. I'm not, which is why I have a 480 instead, but I the 1060 is still a great card. :)
Ben Nottelling nice, which brand? apparently MSI and XFX are the two best, though Red Devil delivers solid performance right up there, just a little hotter/bigger.
Nice! I went for the same idea and got an RX 480 by MSI, their Armor edition (the cheaper variant compared to Gaming X as I assume this XFX RS is the cheaper GTR) Mine has been working well! Hope it's working well for you- what's your setup??:0
That's crazy you uploaded this video as I bought this exact model yesterday as an open box item for about $160. I'm still torn for buying this but it also kills me that it plays games so smoothly
I love this channel. It's great for the 90% of us who cannot afford to obsess over 4 GTX 1080ti's or 4 Titans. The high end people got massively F**ked over this year too with the 1080ti. I have always been a budget gamer due to being on a low wage and I love that there is so much choice at the £100-£200 range it's crazy :)
Randomdance it has more raw power than both and with the vulkan api its unlocked so thats what I went with and what I would go with again if I had the option to chose
ubbgn yeah, midgrade GPUs won't be lasting longer than 2-3 years tbh. I've the 760 (bought in 2014) and the fps in newer titels are shit on higher settings
Nope, Nvidia GPU's wont be lasting longer than 2-3 years cause they dont support them after a few years but AMD supports their cards more than 5 years .
{ ZEO } wrong, nvidias newest driver still supports all mainstream desktop GPU's down to the, in 2007 released, GeForce 8800 GTS (maybe even older cards)
I was in the market for a new GPU, but nothing really hit that bang for your buck. The exchange rate didn't help I guess, but I remember getting the GTX 660 for around 200 Aussie dollars and the 1060 is just out of reach. I'm having more fun building a retro PC and trying old graphics cards that used to be expensive, but not sell for very little.
I actually picked up this exact card yesterday for $195us. I honestly wasn't expecting a whole lot from it and had only purchased it as a temporary option until I'm able to pick up a 1080 in a couple of months, then this will be going in an older system that i gave to a friend. honestly this card has more than surprised me with it's overall performance. well worth the money for anyone on a budget. It's also been a great overclocker, easily hitting 2000-2100mhz and never hitting above 79c in my system at those speeds
thats just not how it works, rx 470 proved time and time again to be better than a 3gb 1060, and rx 480 showed very small performance gains over 6gb variant, also older amd gpus are now better than older 900 series, only 980s are still relevant lol.
The 470 has not beaten the 1060 3gb in 95% of benchmarks I've seen. The 480 has. You must be confusing the 470 beating the 1050ti... which it does in almost every benchmark.
Both are good. The 480 has a little higher power draw but will most likely have better performance with newer APIs. I tend to recommend the 480, but there really isn't a wrong choice here.
If you don't want your graphics card to become a potato in 2 years, then go with the RX 480 ( Older AMD cards perform way better than older GTX cards, feel free to do your research)
I am kinda in the same boat as you were. I am looking for a newer medium video card for my FX 9590 system. I am looking at a 1060 3gb as well as a RX 570 . What is stopping form me buying a 1060, is the extra 1 gb more that the RX 570 has. As well If the RX 570 price in the near future comes down, i'll buy that one. For now though it looks like a GTX 1060 3gbs is in my future.
-T-X-M- Why, in canada this version cost me $250 on black friday and the 6gb version was $300, the rx 480 was $290 and i really didnt have enough for either of those. The rx 470 was about the same price and much lower performance,
Nope. just tested witcher with a GTX 1060 3gb, i3 6100 and 8gb of 2133mhz ddr4 ram. Full Ultra 1080p (hairworks off) a locked 60fps. I even have grass density maxed out.
+jonnybegood890 Highly doubt that. You're not playing graphically intensive games then. The gtx 1060 3gb is getting beat by the RX 470 in just about every game now due to the low amount of VRAM it has.
+Lavancer If you keep away from Ultra texture settings 3gb is more than enough. You guys have been lied to by paid tech channels that push a ever upgrading culture on the internet to support AMD, Intel and Nvidia. FFS most games can be played at high settings with 2gb of vram lol.
This is such a hard choice to the ones of us that have no brand loyalty or bias towards either Amd or Nvidia..I actually ended up going with the XFX rs 4gb Rx 480 model from Best Buy for $179 (The same model in the Rx470 variant is $159)..This came with a backplate, and the custom white led fans included in the price..This 1060 in this video every reviewer shows it runs very hot..Anything close to the 180 price range on the 1060 side will come with one fan, no backplate and usually cost 200..The choice for me was easy..This card is great, I honestly don't care if it's Amd or Nvidia, I just want what is best for my money..Loved the video, and your channel... hope you're as happy with your card as I am with mine...Cheers
Good job not picking the 470. My friend has one and it turns off the monitors after like an hour and you have to restart to turn them back on. Look around at the people complaining about crashes, freezing, and driver issues. I would pick 1GB less VRAM over constant driver issues. You've made a good choice.
It was between getting this and a GTX 970 for me, and I found a good deal on a 970 for around $160. The fact that this card can go toe-to-toe with a card from two years ago that was almost double the price is crazy.
I'm pretty sure at the rate your channel is growing, you'll be more than capable of buying a more powerful processor and gpu. Wish you even more success in the new year. Cheers!
I actually had the same dilemma as you recently, I was thinking about buying the 1060 3gb like you but I ended up getting the RX 470 4gb for much cheaper where I live(Canada). For me it was a better choice as it's +50-60$ cheaper +more future proof (4gb vram) +performs around the same, if not better especially in DX12 and Vulkan. Still haven't received it yet but I can't wait!! (Upgrading from a 4 year old hd 7750 with 2gb ddr3)
nice work! i personally am chomping at the bit to get an RX 480 4gb. i also have no care to do 4k gaming but i need a boost over my current Extremely hot and loud HD 7970 with reference cooler. $200 is a good spot price wise and i have read that 4 and 8gb is really no huge performance boost for an additional 50 bucks.
Thanks for the video and I totally agree and understand your thoughts on the 1060 3 gb purchase. I'm looking for a video card and the 1060 3 gigabyte version is seriously on my list of purchases. One: being because of the low power consumption and less heat this card produces, And two: having that sweet $190 price for 1080p gaming for one of my lan rigs. This will be a great replacement for my gtx 760 2 gig card. Thanks again for the video.
im glad your idea of a "budget build" is actually 'budget'. people like me are stuck with a GT 640 and a 250W psu :( a AMD cheaper alternative is out of the question and im hoping to upgrade to a 750 ti but that's a long way off
Mate just fuck off. I've seen you commenting loads on this video saying how bad this card is. Whilst it may not be the best card, it's his choice. I'm sure he did so much research to come to the conclusion that this is the best card for his circumstance. So fuck off, and let him enjoy his upgrade
Nice buy :) I recently bought the 6GB G1 gaming version recently... pricey bugger aha, but wanted a little oompf for my build. I just gotta upgrade the CPU now... which may mean replacing my motherboard and ram to RIP. I have an AMD FX 6300, which is all in all a very decent piece, but I am afraid that it isn't too future proof considering the older architecture of the chipset :/ so we'll see, might plan to fully upgrade all of those components in a year's time or so hopefully :)
I support you :D. I have the same card (but not the Mini version). Every games I want to play are in Very High/60 FPS. In the future i'll need to go on Medium, but I got a PS4. The change shouldn't be rude :P
the benchmarks that I've been seeing lately are actually what got me addicted to the witcher 3, decided to see how well it ran and got stuck playing for hours
Yo Charlie, glad you've got a new rig! might not be much so far as # of parts switched is concerned but moving from a pentium to an i5 is a huge leap that should make things much easier render-wise, not to mention the currently most competent budget graphics card (though 470 will edge it out by the time they're both old.) I went with a 480 but understand your power supply concerns and am glad team green worked for you. enjoy your new rig and keep up the fantastic videos!!:)
Now I wonder what's the difference with 1050 Ti:) But I think you made a good choice. Maybe you should show the improvement over your old card in video editing too.
Khanemis 1050 Ti: Witcher 3 = 40 fps 1060: Witcher 3 = 60 fps But I have a GTX 1050 Ti from Asus and it's a very good card. I can Play the most Games on very High and 60 fps.
Really loving the work on this channel, such an original concept for a channel, refreshing to view. Getting into the second hand market buying and selling, I just sold my 970 for £120 on Gumtree, did you not consider a second hand 970? Could have saved around £60 for about the same performance, is your case not big enough? I listed my i5 4460 with msi Mobo for £130 but no takers, do you think the price was too high? keep up the good work!
I got the RX 470 a few weeks back instead of getting the GTX 1060 mini as I wanted to use a decent AMD GPU and wanted the extra VRam.My experience so far has been good,Adobe apps run good except older versions of Premiere Pro which often acts weird and the only solution is to use the latest version. Also on the AMD side the extra VRAM would help in gameplay recording which is another reason to pick it up.Nonetheless both are excellent GPUs...Have a great holiday.. :)
I did a build for a friend of mine, and he was unemployed and on a budget. I let him buy the Asus dual-RX460-O2G. This card is only 150 Euro's and packs allot of punch for its price. Put it on a FM2+ motherboard with an A10 processor. The total cost was 300 euro's using his old DDR3 memory, case, fans and harddrives. He's a happy gamer now.
So far we've had more or less the same upgrade path for our GPU's. I went from a 750(Non TI, but it had 2GB of memory and performed identically to my friend's 750 Ti), and I went up to the ASUS Dual OC 1060 3GB when it was on sale for about $190
To be honest, I've kinda eschewed the power supply requirements a lot. When you only need a hard drive & have USB optical drive for when you need it, you find you can devote those 4 pins to the GPU quite easily.
Give it a year and your channel will be so big you won't need to think about saving money lol
FiftyHP that will kill is channel :v, the idea is to help "low budget gamers" like me, decide what to buy for the best price
FiftyHP but that's what made his channel so big haha. i reccomend watching Green ham gaming tv as well, as they both have similar styles, while Green ham gaming is more comedic, and more detail oriented. Both channels are just as good as the other though
Assasinpiggles I do like green ham but he doesn't upload enough. :/
Then he reviews nothing but expensive parts, the channel dies because its original fan base leaves, and he's back on the budget builds reviewing cheap CPUs. The good old cycle.
My thoughts exactly.
You're non stop dropping videos dude! You're killing it, love these!

Yep plus the price where i live is lower so i got the 1060 2 months ago.
I put one of these in my dad's i5-4460 machine and it's a beast now :D
H31MU7 awesome :)
Fanboy detected!
Fake Grade A Under A #MakeRUclipsGradeAgain Uh, no. I'm speaking objectively here; that doesn't make me a fanboy. Do your research and you'll see it 100% supports what I've said.
"eventually surpass the 1070"
haha... no
1060, yes
1070, no
I have a 1070, upgraded from a 960 4gb (wanted to do VR) love it. Could not be happier
ChrisCrossAppleSauce cpu?
I've upgraded to 1070 from 970 Gave 970 to my friend, who's gfx broke down (she cannot afford a new one).
Fladerbious i5 4460 but will be upgrading to i7 4790k for virtual machines and stuff
TheMegaHertzPentiums try using Evaga precision x overckocker on it. The 1070 can take a shit ton of overclock
There's no point in upgrading from 4460 to 4790, you won't see much of a tangible difference. Look for more cores rather than multithreading for your use case. I have a 4770 I'm speaking from experience
You need way more attention,
This is such a connected channel, its not some corporate sellout that can afford to get the latest and greatest,
I love how he appeals to the common person that doesnt have a bottomless bank account
I'm really happy for you that you bought a new card. And I'm excited for your contents next year. Good luck.
Couldn't find a RX 480 4GB for the same price?
***** That explains it.
By the way TDP doesn't mean "average power consumed" in most cases 480 uses even less power
No it means Thermal Design Power hence the TDP.
...handle...what? He could have undervolted
some people undervolt their 470 cards and still get close to 480 clocks haha
Undervolt and overclock a 480 to beat 1060 performance on less budget XD
Louisarius no, because it's worse.
God i love your videos man! Great job and you are awesome!
Wehrmacht Soldier thanks mate
I'm getting the 470 :) I got it for £165 as well which is pretty great
Plus AMD just released their new software which has a good shadowplay equivalent
-T-X-M- sapphire platinum (reference blower style one)
I got the same one for $185 a few months ago, then shortly after the price dropped....... :(
Ronald Browen I got an rx 470 4 months ago for 220 euros.. its 230 euros here now.. fml
Where did you get that?
i like your channel cause you show off hardware and builds that basicly everyone can have if they are smart. unlike those channels that show 2000$+ builds that most of us only can dream of. and i think alot of people think the same cause your channel is blowing up. congratz man.
i myself own a i5 4460 but with the 6gb 1060 and 12gb ram. its a beast
just got a gtx 1060 my self and could not agree more with you. great channel sir.
I have the same card, extremely high quality and I think it can handle pretty much all you through at it
Kyle The Kraux yeah seems to be able to so far :)
don't you worry that card is not bad, well I have the full one G6 from gigabyte and the only game I have that will use the full card is ARK, I try fallout 4, GTA V, skyrim SE, shift 2, I even try X.Rebirth, and nothing.
For your guys consideration this is my PC specs (and is 4 year old PC with a new GPU);
Board = DZ87KLT-75K (INTEL EXT)
CPU = i5 - 4690K - @ 4.2Ghz on max 61Cº
MEM = 2x kingstone 4GB + 2x CRUCIAL 4GB (dual ch) (yes they have different volts)
GPU = GIGABYTE GFORCE GTX 1060 G6 (very big card, almost did not fit in the case)
HARD DISK = a mix of sata 2 and ssd in raid (very fast machine up to 280Mb ps data transfer speed show in steam, and it can go more).
My point is you don't need to spend a lot of money OR like me spend for 5 year machine (or more) with small upgrades.
Best regards to all
I paid 350 dollars for an asus strix 1070 NEW. The best deal ever
where?
On cyber monday, i went to a microcenter and found a strix 1070 for $350 with watch dogs 2 included. I picked it up as soon as i saw it

I feel guilty owning a Titan XP and watching this channel. Still find your topics interesting and enjoy the videos!
Just bought the GTX 1060 myself a few weeks ago (early Christmas gift). Very happy with it. I'm definitely headed for 4K gaming at > 100fps, but for me that's at least two or three years from now, and I'll be needing an all-new gaming rig anyway.
Pin this.

@@jonathanhardee6675 amd is the best answer for u
I upgraded my card recently. I had a choice between RX480 4GB and a GTX1060 3GB.
I went with RX480, and I think I made the right decision.
I believe AMD cards in general tend to age better than nVidia, more VRAM is also more futoreproof. I know RX480 uses 50W more than GTX1060, but ultimately the difference in electric bill isn't much.
DrathVader did u sell the 480?
i think he sold the 480 hahah
shittiest drivers in the world though
SC omg i hope he did he got lucky 😂
lol the 1060 3gb punches well above its weight for only having 3gb of VRAM
I still have the gtx 960 2gb and im loving it it runs all of the new games ond ultra and high settings and i wille keep it as it my first ever graphics card

I bought the 3gb EVGA gtx 1060 :) I got it for 199 on amazon. I think it is better than zotac but they both stay plenty cool.
Have fun when your house burns
EVGA cards this gen have been known to do that.
HellFire No only the 1080 and maybe 1070 cards have been doing that because the VRAM heatsink was wrong. They are all fixxed now
+King Jukes Someone is butthurt
King Jukes It is true I do post on a lot of 1060 videos.
Don't listen to anyone who says 3gig is a bad card, it is cheap and works just fine.
next year 1070 will be twice cheaper on used market, thanks to the awesome guys like you. Thx bro!
This is next year were a 1060 3gb is still fine gpu prices are still high and im hungry.
2:50 ...Um, I don't wanna be a dick, but that's way off. My 470 used around 80 to 90 watts under load when undervolted and the power limit dropped. Even at stock settings it came nowhere near to 140w.
+TXM TDP in nvidiots' minds "power consumed every second"
In reality:Thermal Design Power
My XFX variant had a 6-pin, and no 470 comes without a power connector fyi. I looked at the cards max power draw with MSI Afterburner after running Uniengine Heaven & Valley, Overwatch, and GTA V. The max was 90w, and I think 110 with the power limit maxed to try and get the highest possible clocks just for fun.
amd reports only the gpu core power consumption.Feel free to call other people noobs though you dumbfcks
I'll be making the same upgrades as you! From 750 non-ti to a Zotac Mini 3GB! My CPU is showing its age though. Still rocking that 1st gen i5 760!
here in the US the 480 can be had for cheaper than a 3 gig and now thanks to driver updates beats a 6 gig, also tests have shown that mid-high ASIC quality 480s only consume 95 watts and 150 is like the worst case scenario.
They dont consume 150W even when played on 4K
Jesus christ, AMD themselves said the 480 consumes 150w on the 480 presentation, how can you even deny that?
www.roadtovr.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/amd-rx-480-polaris-4.jpg
well jayztwocents, a reviewer that is usually very bias toward nvidia said his averages about 95, and myself an owner of 2 can say that mine run at no more than 100. AMD just didn't want to make any promises they couldn't keep 100% of the time, so they promised that a normal 480 under normal operation would never go over 150.
Msi afterburner doesnt report the whole power consumption on AMD cards, unless you are getting the readings off the wall then its not even close to the actual tdp
both wattman and sapphire trixx do, as well as others although iam not sure specifically which ones.
I'm about to buy a 970 to replace my 950 SLI setup.
i would recomend a rx 480
Fireclaw Studios Please do not
Fireclaw Studios No, buy an R9 390.
Only those people who insist on playing at the absolute highest settings and/or at higher resolutions will run into a problem for the next couple of years.
nope the 480 or 470 is still a better choice.
I personally would have gone for Rx 480 4gb

That's crazy you uploaded this video as I bought this exact model yesterday as an open box item for about $160. I'm still torn for buying this but it also kills me that it plays games so smoothly
I love this channel. It's great for the 90% of us who cannot afford to obsess over 4 GTX 1080ti's or 4 Titans. The high end people got massively F**ked over this year too with the 1080ti. yeah, midgrade GPUs won't be lasting longer than 2-3 years tbh. I've the 760 (bought in 2014) and the fps in newer titels are shit on higher settings
MoeDaTeaman Decrease the settings. Go to 720p.
Nope, Nvidia GPU's wont be lasting longer than 2-3 years cause they dont support them after a few years but AMD supports their cards more than 5 years .
{ ZEO }
wrong,
nvidias newest driver still supports all mainstream desktop GPU's down to the, in 2007 released, GeForce 8800 GTS (maybe even older cards)
Then their drivers are pretty bad
1080> 1070> R9 Fury X=GTX 980Ti> 1060 6GB = RX 480 8GB = R9 Fury> RX 480 4GB=GTX 980> 1060 3GB=GTX 970> R9 390> RX 470 4GB> GTX 1050Ti> GTX 960> R9 380> 1050> RX 460> 750Ti
thats just not how it works, rx 470 proved time and time again to be better than a 3gb 1060, and rx 480 showed very small performance gains over 6gb variant, also older amd gpus are now better than older 900 series, only 980s are still relevant lol.
The 470 has not beaten the 1060 3gb in 95% of benchmarks I've seen. The 480 has. You must be confusing the 470 beating the 1050ti... which it does in almost every benchmark.
Damn that card's hot................ I mean by its temperatures. Haha! ;D

Now, im not sure if I should buy a gtx 1060 or rx 480 xD
HIPZTER◬ RX 480
Both are good. The 480 has a little higher power draw but will most likely have better performance with newer APIs. I tend to recommend the 480, but there really isn't a wrong choice here.
HIPZTER◬ if your system isn't that bad atm i suggest waiting for amd's VEGA cards that are launching soon.
If you don't want your graphics card to become a potato in 2 years, then go with the RX 480 ( Older AMD cards perform way better than older GTX cards, feel free to do your research)
For the love of god don't get influenced by nvidiots and buy a 480/470
This card is really not future-proof
-CLM15- i agree

I am kinda in the same boat as you were. I am looking for a newer medium video card for my FX 9590 system. I am looking at a 1060 3gb as well as a RX 570 . What is stopping form me buying a 1060, is the extra 1 gb more that the RX 570 has. As well If the RX 570 price in the near future comes down, i'll buy that one. For now though it looks like a GTX 1060 3gbs is in my future.
Solid reasoning. Congrats on the upgrade dude!

Got my son one for christmas to replace his 760.
-T-X-M- why is it a horrible decision?
Jon Doe why????
-T-X-M- Why, in canada this version cost me $250 on black friday and the 6gb version was $300, the rx 480 was $290 and i really didnt have enough for either of those. The rx 470 was about the same price and much lower performance,
Moral of the story: I;m broke af

Brian Jules he said something about limited case size I believe, so this is why he chose the 1060
Jaime Zamora Good point. Time to upgrade that case bro.
Brian Jules don't think he lives in the states
Brian Jules it will cost more to upgade case, bruh.
He also mentioned his PSU is to weak and would also require an upgrade.
gtx 1060 3GB? you are trolling us right?
tenkikun Maybe 6gb?
Nope. just tested witcher with a GTX 1060 3gb, i3 6100 and 8gb of 2133mhz ddr4 ram. Full Ultra 1080p (hairworks off) a locked 60fps. I even have grass density maxed out.
tenkikun your an idiot. I have an EVGA GTX 1060 SC 3GB and I'm playing everything on ultra with 60 frames.
I'm about to buy this card alongside with a i3 6100! (I'm a student with a really tight budget) can't wait!
Love all your videos! I'm a fan! Have fun with your new graphics card!
2016 being a bad year, discovering your channel was not. thanks mate :) keep it up
thanks for mentioning this power consumption which is also big thing for me when I upgrade my rig .
So this is your main rig? nice. Glad you got a solid build for yourself. Just don't forget where you came from.
Thanks again for the video.
im glad your idea of a "budget build" is actually 'budget'. people like me are stuck with a GT 640 and a 250W psu :( a AMD cheaper alternative is out of the question and im hoping to upgrade to a 750 ti but that's a long way off
Thats a nice well deserved upgrade! Keep up the great videos :)
I have an AMD FX 6300, which is all in all a very decent piece, but I am afraid that it isn't too future proof considering the older architecture of the chipset :/ so we'll see, might plan to fully upgrade all of those components in a year's time or so hopefully :)
my next pc part will be my gpu, have a 2gb strix960 at the min, i will be getting a 6gb strix 1060, looking forward to it :) great video old chap!
I got this GPU for Christmas, upgrading my MSI GTX 550ti card with 1gb of VRAM. I was not disappointed.
Yo Charlie, glad you've got a new rig! might not be much so far as # of parts switched is concerned but moving from a pentium to an i5 is a huge leap that should make things much easier render-wise, not to mention the currently most competent budget graphics card (though 470 will edge it out by the time they're both old.)
I went with a 480 but understand your power supply concerns and am glad team green worked for you. enjoy your new rig and keep up the fantastic videos!!:)
Congratulations on the card! May you have many happy and memorable gaming moments with it! :-)
Now I wonder what's the difference with 1050 Ti:)
But I think you made a good choice. Maybe you should show the improvement over your old card in video editing too.
Khanemis 1050 ti has lesser shading units and lower base clock.
Yeah, well according to passmark its performance is about 30% lower then 1060 but I am interested in some real tests:)
Khanemis
1050 Ti:
Witcher 3 = 40 fps
1060:
Witcher 3 = 60 fps
But I have a GTX 1050 Ti from Asus and it's a very good card. I can Play the most Games on very High and 60 fps.
KingSmashy That's a nice comparison. Thank you:)
Khanemis But Fallout 4, Space Engineers, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Dead by Daylight and the most of my other Games I Play in very High and 60 fps
When you only need a hard drive & have USB optical drive for when you need it, you find you can devote those 4 pins to the GPU quite easily.
congrats on 71.000 subs, this channel is growing exponentially fast :-) Happy New Year!
Have the same card on my old i5 750 @ 4ghz, play all the latest game fine on 1080p with high - very high setting, cant be happier.
Instant subscription. Clear and concise explanation, you know what you're talking about, frugal, and play fallout 3 lol.
Hey, don't feel bad about the upgrade. you work hard enough on your channel to warrant a bit extra power. Keep up the good work .
