MrMassivemeatlog And not a single (or not a lot of) real money was spent exept for subscriptions and the odd PLEX. The battle did not actually cost that much money. If every ship was financed through plex, it would have cost that. Obviously, that's not the case.

I started playing EVE because of this trailer. At the time I thought "friends you'll know for the rest of your life" was more than a little hyperbolic. But it's been 13 years, I still play, and I'm still friends with half the guys from my first corporation. There's really nothing else like it.

kind of the same with me... but... it may be just for now, but it feels like the game relies too much on that a player's progress depends on their friends/corp.
In my case, since pretty much only one person have experience with the "Support" ships, (Logistics, EWAR & Interdiction) I mean, I feel like I need some practical experience with those ships, but since only one person have experience with those, and aren't always online...

This used to be the case but improvements in technology mean we now have games such as Albion Online. Sandbox games based on land are better than sandbox games in space because too much space is boring. Eve Online was the best available experience in its day though.

He sent me a message; "I have a couple of questions, why did you lock on me and why the hell are you mining in a punisher?"
And that's how it started. You might think this trailer is over the top and it is in some regards but the sandbox is real. God I miss playing this game sometimes.

I played a MUD (text-based multiplayer game) constantly between the ages of 12 to 18. When Everquest came out, I was so excited to have a similar experience but in 3D... then I actually played it. And other MMORPGs. Every one was a disappointment. In the MUD I played, players knew each other. Players made an impact on the world. I'm 35 now and I can still recall the names of my guildmates and lots of the equipment they wore and exploits we had together, along with the exploits of many others in the game. The MMOs? Nothing. Because there are multiple worlds, the best anyone can do is become a cookie-cutter clone of a thousand other players that look just like them. The benefit of having only 1 world is something more games should investigate. Strictly limited items, of which only 1 or 2 might exist in the whole world, and the ability for players to interact with the 'gods' of the realm and make lasting changes lifts the playing experience to a whole different level. If I had the time, I imagine I would love EVE.

Now, I run a corporation with people from Austria, Sweden, Russia, Australia, England, Canada and the United States. It is *fun*. The one universe and full pvp in eve actually enforces you to learn or quit. Mittani's article in tentohammer really nailed it and that is the reason that I play.
Btw, when you make the same mistake twice you actually learned to recognize the situation. I really love this feature in the game.
Btw, to be ambushed is to fly without a scout and when you do that you must be prepared to lose. It isn't a "mistake"

Although the events in this video would be unlikely to happen to most people, it demonstrates the most important point of EVE Online: sandbox gameplay. The game doesn't limit you to a path or tell you what to do. You make your own choices, find your own way of living, and experience whatever consequences result.

I'm not bashing this game or anyone who plays it, I am saying it isn't for everyone. Like you said, "It's easy to get into ships and new parts, but takes dedication to master them." I am (un)fortunately more dedicated to things in the real world that matter more than a video game.
That being said, if you have not played it do give it a try. It's a beautiful game and very in-depth.

ive known about eve for years and for the last couple months have finally buckled down. If your new PLEASE dont let eve intimidate you. i know many people who are driven away from the game because hey find it overwhelming, it is VERY rewarding once things get going. With tyrannis comming out, and from what i hear dust following fairly soon after, you can see this game after years of running is still going to new places.

The skill system has it's advantages. Properly planned, a newbie can participate in massive fleet warfare with less than 48 hours training. It's easy to get into ships and new parts, but takes dedication to master them. Sounds like a good balance to me. As for boredom, a lot of people don't try new things. They mine, they mission, then they get bored. Ever try exploring a wormhole? Scanning for complexes? Joining a 0.0 Alliance? Now THAT stuff is fun. :)

This is how it would go...
    "Damn we missed the fleet"
    "Oh hey a Rifter"
    "EWAR ONLY ON THE RIFTER"
    *Rifter dies*
"GODDAMNIT JIM I SAID EWAR ONLY!!!"

Great video and all, just don't forget that IRL; being at the right place at the right time could touch the lives of over 6 billion people in 195 countries (not 230).

  • @cuppajoe2

Holy crap this was so well made.

  • @udoprog
    @udoprog 13 лет назад

@wiltbloococo "over 6 billion" is still a correct statement and closely relates to the video.
WP states 204 entries, but counting the number of countries is difficult, which still makes the video statement interesting (probably just a mistake!).
What you are referring to seems to be ISO-3166 country codes, which as you mention also includes regions like the Falkland Islands, which is a disputed sovereignty.
I wasn't trying to be pedantic on the first comment : ).

@Vexoro if you're, do not go to low/nullsec at all, regardless of how cheap your ship is. you will more than likely be insta-podded by a fleet of battleships/marauders. wait until you have a large corp, or alliance to go into null/lowsec. same goes for wormholes.

I've just got the 14 day free trial for EVE, I wanted to know what it was about since my girlfriend's dad plays it, and a friend in college has over 2.5k hours on it... It's pretty epic to be honest xD so many people in one universe is amazing, and the alliance battles look aaaawesome!

ElMagnfico: It's pretty reasonable. An assault frigate is a pretty decent ship to solo PVP with in 0.0. Not as great as a recon, HAC, interceptor or a SB, but fair enough. It's also possible for a long range artillery fit Wolf to kill or drive off two frigate sized ships, or at least have them come after it and thus stop tackling the miner. And it's not too far fetched to be invited to some alliance as a result.
The funny part in this video are the "patrols" with dreads and titans at a gate. :)

  • @dwsmith21
    @dwsmith21 11 лет назад

The butterfly effect happened a few days ago when a Titan missclicked and warped into a hostile fleet. The subsequent battle cost the CFC 2 more titans and involved about 3k people.

the fact it takes ages is also what makes it more "real". No legendary mercenary becomes a legendary mercenary within 1 week of PvE missions and corpse looting. The best thing about eve is how lifelike it is.

i migt be an verry rare occasion, but what matters is that its possible, i've been in those random situations often enough, and now i fly with a 400 member alliance, being fleet commander. it rocks that all in eve can be random and "unscripted". like the market thats completeley playerrun, the one server, the groups of people with their territories. i love eve for this, its so complex i still have only scrached the surface after one year of playing. EVE is immence

It's such a great trailer. This does happen. Often times it's the reverse. You are a lonely miner making an honest living and pirates attack. You are plucky and put up a decent defense but ultimately they destroy your ship. They later contact you and during the ensuing conversation invite you to join their band of misfits. The next decision is yours...

  • @SuperColossal33
    @SuperColossal33 13 лет назад

@McBlemmen no, if you go into lowsec (0.4 or lower safety space), there is a 99% chance you will get attacked by player pirates who will blow you up and take all of your stuff.
If you find a group of players, you can go pirate. Most pirates camp gates in lowsec and kill anything that appears...But at the same time other pirates and people who get angry will go looking for them ;).
In Nullsec, space is completely player corp owned, and thats more for alliance vs alliance fighting.

    1.Spot the barge under attack.
2.Kill hostiles while giving a good bump to Miner d00d.
3.Shoot miner to hull, Ransom 50 mil
4.Local Goes up, warp, use scanner, laugh, jump out of system.
5.Pick up some exotic dancers, spiced whine, ARRRRR

    (New Player asking)
IF I'd be in such a situation, (where my ship would survive of course) I mean, that instead of the Minmatar Frigate, a EWAR Cruiser, (specifically Amarr's EWAR ships) would it make sense for such a ship that I'd (at best) try to buy the barge enough time to escape (and then escape myself), OR until backup arrives?

This game has a VERY deep learning curve! I have just begun to play and although it is very epic in scope, I will continue to play and pay, because I know this will be a satisfying experience with no end. A literary comparison of this game is as follows: it's as if Tolstoy's "War and Peace" had a baby with Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged", with "Dune" Author Frank Herbert as a "lovable" care taker.

I think this video was made to be 100% freindly to the people who haven't played EvE. If they had Aura (the tutorial AI) do it, it would be slightly more confusing for them.
Having this guy who sounds alot like the guy pointed the game out to you, makes it seem more viewer friendly.

I just lost my Hulk (which I'd had for ages) to another Matari assualt frigate ship, the Jaguar.
The killer, fortunately, was still in the same belt when I came warping back in in my Wolf. A little pew pew and my armor-tanking Wolf ate his Jag for breakfast.

A cloak and the ability to use it does help, but as you said, it is no grantee that you will not be killed.
In fact using a cloak means pirates will be looking that much harder, as they rightfully assume that you may be flying with items of great value. And running into a competent HIC pilot can ruin any transports day/week/month, cloaked or not.

Eve is a thinking man's game. I'm not saying everyone who doesn't play Eve is stupid, just that it's very complex. It has a real economy, large-scale politics and wars, and generally feels like real life. Some people may think it's more like work than fun, for example when having to manually triangulate the position of a wormhole. But there are plenty of people (myself included) who find that kind of stuff "fun". To each their own MMO.
