Project 240SX Le Drift Car - Ep. 1 | Getting Started

  • Basically, this video starts the second day after I bought the car. I bought it as you see in the video with a welded diff, coilovers, mismatched wheels and some other "goodies". The goal is to drift and build the car.
    If the video seems a bit tedious it's because I wanted to include everything I did to the car so that way people understand how much work actually goes into these cars. Not like those videos that are 10 minutes long and do a whole show car build and make everything seem like a piece of cake and done over night.
    Let me know what you think in the comments below :)

    I’ve watched this whole build series so many times, honestly it’s like my therapy video, so thankyou man I’m going through a tough break up at the moment and I’m feeling pretty depressed and down in the dumps, losing all motivation to really do much, but watching you build series for some reason really helps me forget about all that shit and finds me motivation to do stuff again

  • @ThmsPtrsn

    • @elementalfunk
      @elementalfunk 9 лет назад

      Right. Except he didn't get a wheel alignment after changing the ride height, the wheel spacers aren't strictly necessary and a waste of cash, he cut up the shell to tuck the harness (despite raising the height?!) etc. etc.
      I like this video, but your comment is moronic, what's wrong and what's right, eye of the beholder. Douche.
      Oh, and scraping the number plate! OH NO!

    • @OffBeatGarage
      @OffBeatGarage  9 лет назад +1

      elementalfunk First off I do my own alignments and this was far from the end of the work being done on the suspension, and the car was not being driven on amidst doing the work. Once the car was ready, I did an alignment.
      There were no wheels spacers here, they were hubcentric rings to properly displace the load of the wheel onto the hub.
      The height was raised temporarily to aid in doing work on the car since it was easier to jack up and down and get underneath the car. Which is why the harness was tucked because the car was made lower after the work was done. As far as cutting up the shell, the metal taken out was ~2" worth on a seam. This is commonly done on 240's and not a single issue ever occurs from doing so.
      This video was made to be taken lightly, sorry I wasn't able to completely rip off the bumper for you...

      Sorry I was more having a go at Graham Werner just to prove a point that everyone likes to modify in different ways (probably in a unnecessarily aggressive way). I have watched a few of this series now and genuinely enjoy it, especially because you are getting dirty and doing it rough. Keep up the good work, cheers.

  • @sweefu2
    @sweefu2 9 лет назад

    Not sure if it was previously mentioned, but you don't need to remove the bolts from the knuckle/coilover to adjust the height, just loosen off the lower locking collar and spin the body of the coilover down/up through the lower mount.

    • @OffBeatGarage
      @OffBeatGarage  9 лет назад +1

      sweefu2 Yes I know how to adjust it. Just did it this way because I didn't have a coilover wrench and because of all the grit and dirt build up on the threads, threading the body up and down by hand was super hard. So it was just faster to unbolt it and turn the bracket rather than leave it bolted and turn the body. Thanks for the comment :)

    For the intake system, inlets that go through holes and into empty boxes are resonator boxes that are tuned to create phase-cancellation to reduce intake noise. This makes the intake system quieter especially at WOT. It's also pretty useless, I got rid of mine too.

    Just so ya know you dont have to take the hub/knuckle off the coil over to lower and raise it. Just loosen the lowest ring and then you can spin the entire coil over with the tool on the top ring. super simple and you wont have to have an alignment every time you mess with the height.

    • @OffBeatGarage
      @OffBeatGarage  9 лет назад

      I didn't have a coilover wrench which is why I didn't just loosen the lower collar and turn it down. I even tried by hand just turning it with the lower collar loosened but it ended up hurting my hands after a few turns because the threads were dirty and made it difficult to adjust.
      Thanks for the comment :)

    You don't see many of these cars on the road
    Mostly because they are a nightmare to fix and less space under the hood to work.
    Low safety rating for 1992's
    You won't see many people driving it
    Maybe in the summer

    Hub centric rings are useless if you have tapered lugs. I was worried about it for a second until I realized that myself. That might not be the case for everyone however. Also I think that box was bringing outside air into the engine bay. Perhaps something connecting all of that was missing?

    • @OffBeatGarage
      @OffBeatGarage  10 лет назад +1

      Yes the wheel will center fine because of the tapered lugs but that's not the point of the hubcentric rings. The point of the rings is to place the load of the wheel on the hub and not on the lugs such as done with oem wheel set ups.
      That box was missing a pipe connecting it to the air intake, but it doesn't bring in any air whatsoever as it's a box with no other hole. It's actual purpose is a resonator box which came from factory on the car and is meant to reduce engine noise.
