For Some Reason the Link to some of the RUclips Channels isn't working in the Mobile app. But they work on the desktop version. You might have to search for there channels.
Hey!! Thanks so much for the shout out! My wife and I have been watching you guys for a long time ourselves. Love you house and what all you guys do on your property. Noticed a while back that you had subscribed and was honored that you'd follow us. Hope all is well. Thanks again. Oh, when you were down in your back, my wife asked where you guys were at. She was ready to come and help load hay!
Just a few acres is my favorite channel. Pete and his family do an excellent job! For someone whos trying to ease into that lifestyle, I've learned a ton from him and you guys as well.
Thank you for the other RUclips Farm shout outs, I am really inspired by the Shepherdess channel, so good to see young farmers who love what they do. As always, thank you so much for what you guys are doing with this channel. God Bless!
Hey Evan thanks for the shoutout! So cool because I’ve been watching you for a really long time. I always appreciate the quality of your videos and I know you put a ton of time into your channel. I have metal water tanks and a Rubbermaid one too. My Rubbermaid did crack but I think it was due to a fight or something because we don’t get the hard freeze like you do. I repaired the crack with JB Weld almost a year ago and it’s held up great so if yours does crack, don’t worry it can be fixed! Thanks again!
I watch FTR also. What I love about both your channels is its real life and small scale... its not 20 hired hands on a corporate farm. Down to earth and relatable
All looking and sounding good Evan. You come over much more relaxed and don't repeat yourself like you used to do so often. Getting to be be much more enjoyable to watch. Simple desing based on what was laying around and available. Well done mate, just the job for a quick effective eating station.
Nice video giving other folks a shout out. The thing I appreciate the most about your channel is the way you and your wife have a good understanding of what you know and don't know and how you go about gathering the information you need to build your experience base.
Thank you, your wife, & the stars of your videos (your animals). Your videos are entertaining and informative. I do like your hay feeder it's simple and goes the job. If you need to make another one, maybe have the bottom up another 4 to 6 inches. It will allow you to get your forks in to lift it up and it will help the cows from bending their heads down to eat. Thanks again for your videos. I also like how you help grow the RUclips community by giving plugs to other RUclips sites that are related to what your doing.
Your top five are four of my five, with Pete being the top of list I love watching you and yours😀😃😄 videos also. You and your wife make a good work crew...
Evan - Thanks for today's video and for the suggestions. I do not farm nor live on a farm == but I do enjoy learning and watching and supporting farmers thru youtube.
Yep Pete’s channel is exactly who I would’ve recommended for you to watch. I love his videos. He’s quite the character. Excited for y’all to get cattle. Should be very cool to watch.
I love Just A Few Acres Farm! I started watching for the Farmall tractors and stayed for everything else. Another great channel for raising hogs is Homesteading The Hard Way. Chris has been raising hogs all his life and comes from a long line of hog farmers. He gears his videos to the homesteader or small farmer.
Your channel and Just a Few Acres Farm are by far my favorite RUclips channels - please keep up the good work - and stay warm this week! Upstate NY is also cold this week!
We did the same thing for years. But that was back in the 1970's and 1980's. I think old cast iron was getting hard to find later on as dad bought a Rubbermaid water tub just like they have. It lasted a long time. Cleaning was more of a challenge as it held much more water than an old cast iron bath tub so took longer to drain and more water to refill. They put pond fish to keep down algae and drained halfway to remove waste at bottom every so often and used less water to clean that way.
Make sure you get some way set up to catch and doctor the cattle before you get them. Nothing fancy, but it's better to have it before you need it. Love the videos! Keep pluggin along
You'll probably need to drill some drain holes in the bottom of the feeder, the rain will get in from the sides. Good luck with the Calves, can't wait to see them.
🤗 Good morning. Thanks for the video. 👏👏 I watch 'just a few acres'! I enjoy it. It will be interesting to see how the beef works out. Your getting all set up ahead of time. Great idea. 💞 You folks stay warm and God bless you all. 👍🙏☝️
Good job Evan. Judging from the channels you watch, you know the importance of minerals! Pasture soil can be tested to see what minerals are deficient. Make sure your stock is either polled or dehorned. Good luck. 🐂🐄😷👍
I suscribed to your channel because you’re not jealous about others channel, my first impression was you’re nice person. I saw your videos where you work installing the drain pipe with the John Deere tractor 👍 and the calves feeder👍
You can do anything you set your mind to. You did a fantastic job at building that hay feeder. Rebecca is blessed to have such a talented husband. I love watching you build things and I will keep on watching your videos. Stay safe and warm. God bless you both.
I've followed Pete@JAFAF for a while now. Lot's of good content there. I've been investigating the other channel recommendations you gave. They all seem solid. Thanks for introducing them to us.
Hi Evan, great thinking, planning, and execution. The purpose of the slanted 2/4s is to prevent feed waste I think. If the cows can’t lift there head straight up they are less likely to pull their heads out of the manger with a mouthful of hay I think. On the ends the cows might be wasting some food. Thanks for your videos and good luck.
dont worry Evan...you are ready for the feeder calves and i am sure that you are going to love this new chapter of your homestead. By the way, i watch all those other guys too...i dont think the 2 feeder steer are going to be that rough on your feeder, it should be fine....best of luck with them...one suggestion, i would make sure they are vaccinated and wormed before turning them loose in the pasture, its pretty difficult to do if you dont have a corral with a head or squeeze chute..
We had cattle when I was growing up on our farm that we raised for our own beef. We used to use old cast iron bath tubs for water trough but bought one of the exact same Rubbermaid trough like you have there - same size! Some things never change and thank goodness. We bought it around 1988 and it lasted more than 10 years until dad stopped raising cows. Anyhow, one thing you may REALLY want to do is take a hole saw and cut a hole in the notch opposite where you put the heater and install the drain again in the new hole. Water troughs grow green algae on the tub surface so you have to drain it every so often, scrub the walls of the tub, rinse and refill. Another option we did was we put a few coy pond fish in the tub and for the most part helped keep the algae down. I think they still had to drain the tub halfway every so often because what goes in a fish comes out and you have to drain the sludge from the bottom. Either way, you may regret not having that drain. Otherwise, you will have the unpleasant experience of having to reach into the water to pull that heater out to drain it. Putting the tub atop some pavers might also help keep the tub from sinking into the ground during wet seasons as well. With heavy cattle trampling in front of the trough, it can get messy. You will want that drain.
I used nails on my first hay feeder with my sheep and they pulled out boards. Then I switched to screws and same thing happened. Lol I wish I had seen this a while ago.
A Florida boy wants to know ... what is all that white stuff? And I was hoping to see you climb out of that box you were in! :-) The coldest this Florida boy has seen is 13 degrees all day long in Tallahassee, Florida, winter of 1969. That was COLD! On a personal note ... the longer hairdo serves you well! Another very enjoyable video, Mr. Evan.
Moving the hay feeder is a good idea will keep the the muddy mess down if you move it often, I use plastic tanks not necessarily that brand, only one I have had break was my fault, need a good level spot for it to set, galvanized tanks rust out and leak at the seams, those heaters can short out and will shock the cow's when they drink,if that happens you will probably have to move that tank a few feet to get them to drink again the one I had short out was a floating style I don't like the floating ones in real cold weather they only keep a spot around the heater thawed, the heater you have will keep the whole tank thawed, always keep water in the tank try an keep hay and leaves off the elements, cows are curious they will chew the cord if given the chance
i have discovered this channel maybe a week ago and i love your work you do around the farm. please keep up the great work and keep on producing video's. I learn something new every time i watch either by your mistakes or your techniques.
I have used the same tank and have had zero issues even when it froze a few times. I do highly recommend that you get a waterproof cover that goes over where your extension cord and heater plug together. I had water get in my the plug and short my heater out. the covers also help keep the cord ends from getting pulled apart accidently.
Almost as much a chore for me to comment via RUclips as you to build cow project Hope you and family are well You and this channel help keep me grounded during covid please stay safe and happy Love you guys
Thanks Evan for those other channels! You do a great job! New to your channel as well. Love your farm. Really enjoying all the projects. Inspires me for some things I can do around my farm! Keep those videos coming!!
You might still want to have a drain plug for cleaning the tub out. Maybe use a hole saw to install the one you removed to add the heater in another spot.
Pete is a regular of mine. Good site. Like the tractor love hes doing. good farm as well. Subed the girl sheep herder today. Looking forward to you 2 having cattle
Suggest for towing use all thread 3/4 and run 1in pipe flanges and pipe pipe inside between runners all therad all the way thru from out side to outside and large washer and not may want to counter sink This should keep runners from turning in or spreading when towing
We got cows for the first time two years ago. I really like having them (they are Linebacks, dual purpose cow) and they are very responsive to me. However, they are unpredictable and tend to fight with each other so I have to stay out of their way!
The screws should do fine. Bolts won't hurt, but my nephew has been using sheetrock screws for years to build gates. The screw you used are way better than those.
Just my two cents. But the roof was designed to be high enough to use a loader on a tractor to put the hay into it. I also think I would have put just a small slope on the roof. I would also put a few small hole in the bottom of the feeder for drainage. I use an old bathtub for a watered. It already has a drain for ease of cleaning. I also have one of these tubs . We put a rail around it to keep it in place and we put a drain plug in the bottom. The heater a must. Against just my two cents.
Enjoy the video Evan you did a good job building that hay feeder this it’s been really cold here and got a lot of ice and snow ❄️ but this week the weather people is saying it’s going to warm up looking forward to the next video stay warm they are still going to have the national farm machinery in Louisville it’s March 31 through April 1 2 3 mom saw it on the phone it show that it was still to be going on what state do y’all live in
My family has cattle and we have used the Rubbermaid tubs forever and have never really had a problem with cracking, they’re quality. Nice hay feeder too!

Hi..... Evan nice to see you, thank you for sharing your video homestead 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 🎥👍👍👍
One of things I like about this channel is the always pleasant music. I must be getting old.😆

Thanks for the advice if I get a crack in the tank, now I will know what to do.👍

Love Pete's and Farmer Tyler. Also Our Wyoming Life.
Thanks Greg!
Years ago I built a hay feeder/trough for my cows when i quit i gave it to a neighbor for their horses they really appreciated it
Thanks for sharing. Great feeder and thanks for sharing the channels you watch. We are always looking for more knowledge on the homestead!
Nice video giving other folks a shout out. The thing I appreciate the most about your channel is the way you and your wife have a good understanding of what you know and don't know and how you go about gathering the information you need to build your experience base.
just do not understand why you haven’t hit 100,000 subs by now......I think we all need to do some recruiting😄

I've used those stock tanks for years and never had a problem.

Looking forward to seeing the cows! Thanks for all the shout outs to other channels. Stay warm!
Looking forward to your cow videos. Congratulations 👏 on your next animal adventure 👍❣️
You could bolt pieces of 4x4 across the beams on bottom to hold up you dragging it around and the cows
Hay feeder looks ready for cows.

Perfect feeder!!!! Make sure you handle the cows so you can medicate them and treat them for injures, etc.
Excellent job Evan! Love your homestead! Stay warm!
as always.. cool video. liked the insight into which channels you watch, nice touch. thumbs up
I've followed Pete@JAFAF for a while now. Lot's of good content there. I've been investigating the other channel recommendations you gave. They all seem solid. Thanks for introducing them to us.
Loved seeing two of your cats out creeping around behind you when you were talking about getting bolts for the hay feeder. What fun!
Keep those toes warm . Kansas

Neat back ground music!!!
Great video; your still one of my favorites, because you describe and show how to do everything. Keep the great videos coming. Cheers buddy
“I know a lot of you will have opinions about this water tank” hahaha I’m sure that’ll be an understatement!
dont worry Evan...you are ready for the feeder calves and i am sure that you are going to love this new chapter of your homestead. Love you guys
I've had two of these water tanks for over ten years. No problems, just had to chop holes thru ice. No electricity in barn. Have a blessed week.
Thanks Evan for those other channels! You do a great job! New to your channel as well. Love your farm. Really enjoying all the projects. Inspires me for some things I can do around my farm! Keep those videos coming!!
Just watched Pete’s new video, now I’m here. Pete is a pretty cool guy, I’ve learned a bit from him too
You might still want to have a drain plug for cleaning the tub out. Maybe use a hole saw to install the one you removed to add the heater in another spot.
We really enjoy your channel....especially the Aussies. We have a blue merle aussie too!! He's just so rotten🤣😂🤣
Our dogs are both rotten in different ways.
Have you watched Our Wyoming Life? Mike is a good one to watch!!!
Pete is a regular of mine. Good site. Like the tractor love hes doing. good farm as well. Subed the girl sheep herder today. Looking forward to you 2 having cattle
30 below 0 this morning in eastern Montana--- Great job on the videos.
Now that is cold. Hope you're staying warm.
The feeder turned out nice!
No wonder I can’t ever get anything done around my farm. I don’t like working in the cold.
I do it when I have to, but if it can wait....
You guys need a side by side. I love your channel!
That thing looks tall enough that you could set your bales of hay on end and get more than one at a time in there.
Make sure you site the water tank on a pallet, off the ground....
Good video as always you may want to make sure you’re power source for your water heater is GFCI protected
Suggest for towing use all thread 3/4 and run 1in pipe flanges and pipe pipe inside between runners all therad all the way thru from out side to outside and large washer and not may want to counter sink
This should keep runners from turning in or spreading when towing
A fun channel is the Farmer E
Great job Evan that hay feeder looks great maybe look Into a solar water heater will save money in long run
Evan, thanks so much for your channel recommendations. Three of your five are completely new to me. I'll definitely check them out. God bless.
I also like Pete's sight..
We got cows for the first time two years ago. I really like having them (they are Linebacks, dual purpose cow) and they are very responsive to me. However, they are unpredictable and tend to fight with each other so I have to stay out of their way!
The other day Kevin at living traditions had an attachment for his drill that turned into power tin snips, looked like a handy tool.
Yes, I saw that. I need to get one of those.
@@CountryViewAcres Amazon has it on sale today (2-22-22) for $46, about half price. Dewalt DWASHRIR
The screws should do fine. Bolts won't hurt, but my nephew has been using sheetrock screws for years to build gates. The screw you used are way better than those.

For your cattle care try out the Hoof GP. He trims cattle hooves and teaches how to do it and how to care for hoof problems.
Hoof problems are rare in patured animals. Most problems happen because the animal is standing in piss and shit all day and night.
Just add about 1 ft of heavy chain bolted to each end of skids, makes for easy moving
I hope you know you will most likely need to heat tape the water line above ground and check if there is a insulate for it too .
My family has cattle and we have used the Rubbermaid tubs forever and have never really had a problem with cracking, they’re quality. Nice hay feeder too!
If you’re going to keep up with Pete (Just a Few Acres) you’re going to have to get a lot more old tractors and bring on the dad jokes! 😄😂😂🤣
All good recommendations!
I really like Just A Few Acres Farm too. Pete is a really intelligent and interesting guy. Have you read his book?
Great Job Well Done !!
You need to get yourself a side by side. I can see so many situations where you would benefit from it
I totally agree
