Newtons Laws Concept Check answers: 1st: We see unbalanced forces whenever one player exerts a force on another player and causes him to change his direction and speed. 2nd: a running back whose already in motion and doesn’t want to change the fact that he’s in motion. 3rd: NFL players with more mass have more inertia.
I assume you guys are doing "The science of NFL football" assignment so here are all of the answers NEWTON'S FIRST LAW 1. change directions and/or speed 2. Inertia 3. Mass: How much matter an object has. Weight: How strongly an object's mass is attracted by gravity. NEWTON'S 2ND LAW 5. F=ma 6. Momentum NEWTON'S 3RD LAW 7. Action- Reaction Law 8. P=mv 9. Yes
1)What does a running back have a lot of when he is running? He has a lot of Inertia. 2)What happens when a running back is tackled? Unbalanced forces. 3)Explain why a running back stops when he is tackled? Because the unbalanced forces cause him to fall. (might not be right but if anyone needs it here ya go)
POV: you went to the comments to see if anyone else had to watch this for online science class an literally every comment is "Anyone else watching this for science class?"
Inertia is actually the reason why the kid will get trucked. Each player will produce equal amount of force to each other based off Newton’s 3rd law but the 231lbs man would be more difficult to accelerate because of his higher mass.
If anyone is here for the WebQuest with Dr. Griffith, I got you. In football, when a player throws a ball it doesn’t keep moving infinitely due to gravity. In football, we see unbalanced forces whenever one player exerts a force on another player and causes him to change his direction and/or speed. Momentum is used during football players tackling, the football players tackle someone and then that force acts on them. They use momentum to knock a player down. Done!
+National Science Foundation & The NFL.... Using football to explain Physics concepts is AN AWESOME IDEA...Most Junior and High School students Like SPORTS.. So, they will UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPTS BETTER USING FOOTBALL EXAMPLES...
Question: Describe all the ways that Newton’s Laws can apply in the game of football Answer: -When the direction/speed is changed -A player running a constant speed -How much mass the person is These may not be exact
Looked at original translation of Newton's law from the Latin. I have slight issue with the "unbalanced force". This is wrong. Simply put it does not appear anywhere in the first law. Force is used only, or in Galileo's case, an external force. Both cases obviously being correct. An "unbalanced force" cannot only apply for the obvious reason that a "balanced" force could also act on an object. How are you defining an unbalanced force? Does it act then not act, is it acting intermittently? Hmmmmm......some thinking time needed, someone prove me wrong otherwise, :-)
+Bill Paterson Well the object isn't going to move if it's a balanced force...so it's only going to actually move (or stop) if an unbalanced force is applied. If it's semantics you're talking about, then "unbalanced force" just makes things a little clearer...I use that term when I teach the first law to my students.
Methinks the word "Unbalanced" was used figuratively rather than literally: that the Net Force, being ZERO: allowing the PLAYER to STAND, was undone by the oncoming TACKLER, thus resulting in His inevitable FALL's Tumbling to the ground! A literal use of "Unbalanced" doesn't make sense on the football field, there being no LIBRA-SCALES right there in the midst of the Game! Certainly the TACKLER and the TACKLED, if both actually WEIGHED, rite/right then and there in Time-out: would probably be UNEQUAL in Weight, but such imbalance would have nothin to do with the De-BALANCING of the ZERO-Net Force that had been allowing the PLAYER to remain standing....until the Tackler rushed in to topple Him! The real Balancer is The Mathematical Formula, the Libra Balance of algebraic symbols, exactly expressing Newton's first Law in the accomplished sudden Momentum Event, manifest as The decisive TACKLE, that actually occurred in the specific film clip of Play-Time, in terms of the quanticized MOMENTUM vectors , that Played their fated Roles between these 2: the Tackled and the Tackler.
Lemme guess. . .
You're from a Science class like me?

yes here
now I have to watch this is science. this video makes football boring. thanks a lot :(
Yea same here its pretty boring
Oh, same. This sucks.
I can just imagine what the football players in my science class are thinking when they watch this
football is boring period.
3:00 is where question four is since nobody said it.
that's right kids, stand in the way of a 231 pound man running at you as fast as he possibly can and see where inertia helps your soft fleshy insides.
Inertia is actually the reason why the kid will get trucked. Each player will produce equal amount of force to each other based off Newton’s 3rd law but the 231lbs man would be more difficult to accelerate because of his higher mass.
