    I have very fond memories of drinking this whisky with my dad. Sadly he passed away recently, but we both agreed this was our favourite affordable Speyside malt.

    Most things Horst has descibed as "dangerously sipping" I could happily sit and cave through half a bottle in an evening then wonder why the room is moving. He knows his stuff.. This is still one of my fave sub £40 whisky's.

      The price is alluring, Horst's endorsement is adding to the intrigue

    Aberlour 12 year was the first bottle of single malt I owned. It was purchased by a friend to help me get into Scotch Whisky. It is a wonderful dram with good memories.

    Thank you for explaining that "Double Cask" has no official meaning. I did not realize that it could refer to either 2 casks aged for, say 12 years, and then blended or that it could mean it is aged in 1 cask and then finished for a few years in another type of cask.

    Delicious full-flavoured single malt and great value for money. I prefer Island and Islay varieties of scotch, but out of the four Speyside single malts I've had - other three being Glenfiddich 12, Glenmorangie 10 and Glenlivet 12 - this one was best by far. 35 euros in Croatia at the moment, which is a fair price.

      Glenmorangie is a Highlander bro

      @@IgorKGlenfarclas is from speyside.

    • @IgorK
      @IgorK 10 месяцев назад

      @@nv2929 Oh yes, they say Highland Single Malt but distillery is on Spey Side. I found this - “In the small print on our labels we do put Speyside. Macallan also does the same put Highland rather than Speyside. The Speyside region is a relatively new region. And Glenfarclas has been a Highland Whisky for over 100 years before the Speyside region came about.”

    Tastes almost like tropical fruit punch to me but I love it. I prefer it over my Balvenie 12, which has a hint of smoke I can only get if compared to one like the Aberlour.

    Just opened a bottle last night. The low ABV does lighten the complexity a bit but it is very nice on the palate. I wish they had made it at least 90 or more ABV. I'll likely make this a repeat purchase regardless! Cheers!

    Aberlour 16 vs Macallan 12 ? Which one prevails ? Aberlour 12 is budget friendly single malt, but price wise it’s far cheaper than Macallan 12, so Aberlour 16 is more comparable to Macallan 12.

    I bought this a while back, I'm more of a rye whiskey or bourbon man but I fancied something different. Stunning whisky, possibly my favorite scotch but upon reflection I might, if forced, say scotch wise I prefer a Laphroaig, completely different whiskies but both are jolly good

    For those in the know, how does this compare to Aberfeldy 12 or Craganmore 12 (my favorite speyside) ??

    • @harrr53
      @harrr53 4 года назад

      The Craganmore is not fresh in my memory, so I won't comment, but between the Aberfeldy 12 and the Aberlour 12 I would definitely go for Aberlour. Better balanced dram, pleasant, and has more to offer in terms of complexity. Longer finish too.

    • @francisd2386
      @francisd2386 7 лет назад +2

      I like sharing with people who appreciate. Whether give positive or negative comments, but don't just drink it like I handed them a cheap beer or something. I once brought a Glenfarclas 105 to a diner, and one of the (smaller) women there took around an once or something. She liked it a lot but she was speaking differently after that lol.

    Something's maybe changed, certainly the labeling, packaging and wording on the bottle and cylinder have since this review 5 years ago. I can't speak for the contents but it's still 40%, does not make any claim about cold filtering, in still double casked in American oak and sherry oak, etc. so I think it's probably still similar to what Horst is tasting. No longer inexpensive: ~$60 American (May 2022). Hoping a newer review will pop up soon from someone.

    This stuff is good but IMO its dog wash water compared to the 10. Too spicy and boozey sharp while the american oak adds the taste of pencil wood to the mix. I rate it a mid range single malt masquerading as rye.
