Hey there, I just bought it. I live in Argentina and as a first single malt for me I didnt know wich one to buy between this range of price here in Argentina : Glenlivet 12, Singleton 12, Aberlour 12. I lookforward to try it thank you for your review !
Definitely feel for you as a teacher, you’re in a tough spot. Thanks for the fun review amidst all thats going on. A little levity and fun helps a lot.
I was in the liquor store staring at these very two bottles, trying to decide which to purchase. I went out to my car and watched your video here. I ended up buying the Glengoyne 12. Good scotch! Thanks for your review.
I had the aberlour double cask matured 12 at 25€ with 2glass last week. I'm more of a rhum guy than a whisky one but I have friends who like whisky. I will try it on new year's eve.
Whisky Neighbour , I’m still early in my whisky journey so I haven’t tried Aberlour 12 yet. For my sherried whisky I’ve stuck to Glendronach 12 and Glenfiddich 15 solera. I’m a big fan of both so Aberlour might be the next purchase!
@@shibby67 It will be hard to beat that Glendronach for full sherry. Still, this has an easy drinking quality to it. I hope you enjoy it if you get the chance!
Perhaps I am a beginner when it comes to scotch but this is definitely my favourite dram so far. Been trying to find the Abunadh to compare and savour.
@@elijahfluw4347 I was talking about the old 10 year bottling. 100% Sherry cask. It was affordable and tasty. That said, it has been a long time since I have had it and I'm sure my palate has changed a bit. I have not tried the Forest Reserve. The French Limousin casks could add a nice spice, but I am afraid I can't say.
This was the first scotch I bought and actually made me interested in whisky. I was flying home from London Heathrow and had £40 kicking around that I figured I might as well spend in the duty free shop rather than convert back and they had a tasting demo with Aberlour. I tasted it, liked it and bought a bottle.
The one thing I have found about Aberlour, Balvenie, Dalmore 12 year old's is they are very easy to drink. They are all in my bar for anybody that hasn't really had scotch before. This of course is IMO. The Glengoyne 12 and 10 are very good. Thanks Jon, great vid sir!
Love your comparisons. I kind of stopped describing the colors because if they add color you’re mind is set on something special then gulp not as great as you expected lol. But if I ever come across the 10 it’s mine 👍. Cheers John I hope things can start feeling normal maybe this will be the new normal. God I hope not. My kids miss their friends and teachers. You guys are their mentors it’s only normal to feel the way they do. Stay safe buddy good luck in the new school year 🥃
I really wish each distillery had to indicate if they colour or not. Clearer for us, and might make a few think twice. Thank you for your kind words, we get in to teaching because we love helping kids. So hard right now with all the fear and unknown. I am hoping, praying for a vaccine and some good news. Take care!
Hi John. I love the Abelour 10yr and 12yr. Have yet to try any of their other expressions though. Their website mentions that the Sherry is Oloroso. Love the channel and the reviews. Slainte young man.
Thank you for the additional information. I would have guessed Oloroso, but I was surprised it was not mentioned on the bottle. Glad you are enjoying the reviews and thank you for dropping in!
It's been to long since I had the 10 though. I better hunt it down before it is truly gone! Thanks for stopping by, and for sharing your thoughts on your channel with this one too!
Love both of these malts. I know what you mean about the Aberlour not lasting long, its just so easy to drink. I too just love the Glengoyne, just tastes a bit more refined. I really want to try the A'Bunadh.
I recently picked up a bottle with the hope that it may replace McCallan 12 which I really do like. However, McCallan is 30 - 40 dollars more which is rediculous despite its nice taste. Looking forward to cracking my new Aberlour 12 soon!
Good review Jon, as always! How would you compare the Aberlour 12 to the Glenlivet 12 ? Both 12 years, double cask maturation, both from Speyside and in my market they are almost the same price.
@@WhiskyNeighbour Thanks ! I know in the end I'll just have to taste both and see for myself. They both sell for around 60$ CAD where I live so they seem like a pretty good deal for a 12 yo single malt scotch.
I haven't tried the two whisky's your comparing today, instead I am trying Jura 12 year old which should be comparable . I am enjoying the Jura with its ex-bourbon barrles and oloroso sherry casks and there is a very subtly smoky, petty flavour which has a slight phinolic taste when I add about a teaspoon of water to the dram. reasonablerecommend it. reviews.
Good to hear about a Jura. I have not had a Jura release in a long time. I didn't mind their Prophecy release. The 12 sounds interesting as it adds a bit of peat to the ex-bourbon and ex-oloroso casks. I might need to pick up a bottle. Thanks for sharing.
Nice review Jon 🙂 Jacob swears this is the most boring single malt ever made, but I kinda of like my Aberlours, especially the 15y and 16y which are often available at a good price around here. The Glengoyne would outshine the Aberlour, no surprise there, but a good way to get some context for the review 👍 I can certainly relate to trying times in education, but I often think we have a lot less trouble than other areas.
Not sure I would go so far as to say boring, but certainly simple! I don't always compare, but more and more I find myself enjoying an immediate comparison, sharpens the highlights for me. We are struggling a bit in Alberta. Our current government has been reducing Education funding or almost 2 years and now with COVID has not stepped up aside from masks and guidelines. Very hard.
@@WhiskyNeighbour Sounds tough 🙁 Our institution is suffering economically from lots of students dropping out of education because online education put a lot more demand on their own work discipline without us being able to support them like we usually do. Personally my education is getting off more easily than the others because our current government has a big focus on welfare and in turn the pedagogues - that we educate - needed to work in lots of the welfare systems. Anyways, best of luck with keeping your people motivated and the schools on track - it is mighty important work!
A lot of naysayers in the comments. Single malts all have their pros and cons. A lot of us have a price range and $69 for this ("cheap" in Ontario) constitutes a splurge. Just bought it, will see for myself soon. No Glengoyne 12 in Ontario.
@@WhiskyNeighbour The flavour has grown on me a bit, a nice malty taste, maybe too dry on the finish. Really my first sherry cask so it's different than what I've tried.
@@secordman Glad you enjoy it. I do too, just not my favourite 10 or 12 year ex-sherry. Still, it is certainly an excellent dram and cool that it has grown on you. Cheers!
There's dozens of Scotches I refuse to buy now. Price to quality ratio being way off. Glengoyne 10 and 12 are great for me. Everyone in the states just argue because of whatever politics they follow. It's embarrassing and shameful. My kids are doing hybrid so they go twice a week and it's only about 10 students per class. They do online 3 days. It's tough for me because Im not a teacher in a salesman. Stay safe friend.
Glengoyne are solid drams. It is not helping our kids that Adult's just argue and make this political. We need to reassurance our kids, we got this, not demonstrate so much conflict and uncertainty. Sounds like a safe plan you have built for your children. Low cohort numbers, less contact. Take care!
Another victim of changes. The 10 is all sherry and is WAY better: the whiskies of old ARE BETTER on both on the nose and the palate.... Even the mighty Abunadh cask strength is a lighter-version of old . . .

Glad I could share some thoughts! I think both have something to offer, but it's cool the Glengoyne resonates with you too. Enjoy!
Thanks for your insight.
Thanks for dropping in. Do you enjoy Aberlour?
The A'Bunadh is a delicious whisky. Perhaps the most delicious whisky that I've ever tasted.
It is so rich. I really need to get another bottle of it again, take care!

I enjoy this too. A little too "easy drinking" it seems ;)
Jon, thanks for the guidance on this standard, available single malt. Not sure I will be going for it though.
Good, but not worth seeking out IMO. There are better Sherried drams out there!
Perhaps I am a beginner when it comes to scotch but this is definitely my favourite dram so far. Been trying to find the Abunadh to compare and savour.
Cool you enjoy this! Taste is always subjective. Cheers!
I'm still waiting to see an offer on this one as I enjoy the 10. I reckon I'd enjoy this as an easy drinker. Cheers Jon.
I really want to find the 10 again. To compare it to this and also to clarify my memory. It really has been many, many years. Thanks for dropping in!

I really did enjoy it, but I'm not too thrilled to find that they add E150 caramel coloring to it. Not to mention other brands that are similar.
